Sea of Thieves rediculous pricing needs to stop!

  • I really want to buy this game, but here in germany it coasts about 69,99€. I don't know what Microsoft studio/Rare is thinking, but it needs to stop. It was funny at the beginning (haha) but seriously do you really want to come up with this price? Crossplay should be a feature not something we as a customer have to pay for (as far as I'm concerned)

The biggest issue I have though is that nobody of Rare/Microsoft took a stand until now at least. I'm so tired of Rare talking about the "beautiful" game, yet it isn't worth 70€, no matter what they do. I've already tried to contact the Microsoft store, but you can imagine how well it ended...

Please can we as a community shout out to Rare/Microsoft, so they don't (Mod Edited) up the game before it is even launched?

Thanks guys and have a nice evening :)

  • Aye ,100% agree with U.

  • If we want better game, they have to put more effort, time and money into it.
I have no problem with the price.

  • Yet again. I'll say this again...

How can you possibly know if the game isn't worth £50?

What you played the Beta? Stress Test? Alpha? Well done Claps That is not the full release of the game.

You can say the game is not worth £50 when the game is fully released and we have seen all of its content/ see everything we have paid for.

You look at Destiny 2/ Call of Duty etc... You pay £45 base game then £30-£40 DLC. Now you take SoT which is £50 base and free DLC... I don't understand people's logic.

Hate on the game's content/overpricing after the game is released.

+Who is telling you to buy this game at that price(launch). Buy it and pay it when it's at a price you think is right for the game.

P.S. And you can't call me a fanboy or any other BS for clearly opening my eyes and looking at what I have in front of me.

  • @pierolivierqc I wouldn't be upset about 40-50€ but 70€ for a videogame doesn't seem right, does it? I mean they can come up with the skins & non-pay2win microtransactions in case they need some additional funding (like overwatch did). In the US store it coasts about 70$ which is much less btw. The pricing isn't even fair for all the regions.

  • I have no issues with the price. Especially if you buy digital. you get both CP and xbox game for the one price. for me that works out to $45cad each for both pc and xbox. And I don't have to pay for and DLC or season pass.

  • I have no problem with the price. the fact ive played over 40 hours in the Beta/scale test and now crying like a baby becaus i cant play anymore says this game is worth it.

Be glad your not from Australia the game cost arond a 100 dollars there.

  • @kdm The biggest problem I have is that in some regions it's more expansive than in others. In the US microsoft store it is about 69,99$ (~48€). Here it's 69,99€ (~69,99€). I wouldn't be upset about 48€ believe me. Average income is higher sure, but so are the taxes...

  • Game is worth whatever YOU will pay for it. Once you learn about free market and capitalism your soul will be free.
Buy it if its worth it. Dont buy it if its not. Tada !

  • I have no problem with the price, enjoyed the alpha, closed beta and scale test, and the game will have plenty to do on release, with more stuff to be added in the future.

  • I would pay 100 quid for this game in its current state . I (Mod Edited) love this game.

  • Microsoft is to blame for the price. Have you seen a Xbox game come out that wasn't 60 bucks at launch? PC users are being forced to pay the same as console users because Microsoft is still trying to maintain a place in the console war. If Microsoft didn't get exclusive rights you'd most likely be able to play SoT on Steam and the price would easily be 20 bucks cheaper if not more.

  • @quadratatom306 That's probably because of your country taxes then.

  • @britishtwin-one @QuadratAtom306 Hello mates! Please mind the implied language on the forums as we will moderate it out even if it's censored. Thanks in advance!

  • @misterdoomed I'm desperately looking for a new awesome game to play with my friends, that's why I'm so torn apart between price and value.

Well for this price no one (I know at least) will buy it. Chapter closed, and guys I really don't want to argue with you. Be nice and respect other ones opinions :)

  • The Game is honestly not worth 60+ bucks. I understand it was just a beta but based on what we know about the game so far it just does not seem worth it. Not all of the content was in the beta but you can kinda guess at what will be in game at launch based on what we have seen and heard from the devs. I would be fine with paying around 30-40usd but 60 is way over priced for what were getting. Even at launch if the tripled the content that was in beta, you could still reach reach end game i.e having all the best gear n stuff within a few days. why would I want to pay 60+ for a game when I can get other games for half the price and get way more content out of it?

  • @dhg-ixxrmacxxi Oh ok. Is that even apart of the pirate code?

  • @sticctizzle420 Maybe that's why I have such a passion for indie games: low price and high value or maybe I'm just too greedy? Hahahaha :D

  • @britishtwin-one Swearing is a part of the Xbox Code of Conduct which is the legal agreement for using any Xbox service, which being that Sea of Thieves is owned by Microsoft is governed here.

  • Take notion that all upcoming content is free from what I've heard. The game will also not include lootboxes or microtransactions that boost your character in any way. Also no monthly fees! These are few of the reasons to pay extra.

  • @quadratatom306 I did not mean disrespectful. it is indeed what you want to get out of the game. I hope you can find a reason to buy and play this game anyway.

I myself play alone and this discord has helped me to find nice people to play with. this increases the play values with tons.

  • @cheatingcoder88 I did not feel offended at all, thanks for your apology anyway! :)

I always say: "Every problem can be solved with enough time" I'm pretty confident everything will be fine :) see ya on the sea.

  • @dhg-ixxrmacxxi Yeah no harm in censoring though.

  • I've bought a few copies for my friends and my self, I do not see an issue with the price. True a lot of influence if based on brands, wiliness to buy, etc. But 60USd is pretty standard for a new game, even more so a game that we still only have been able to test. Will I kick my self in the future? Who knows but till there sail on.

  • @quadratatom306 I’m not sure about this, but can you not just order one from the states and wait a week after launch to get it? BTW: It’s not a (Mod Edited) price over there... Rare/Microsoft get their own kick in the gut on the taxes to even sell there, and far worse than your gonna pay in sales tax. Rare/Microsoft aren’t scalping other location around the world (especially when it’s a cooperative multiplayer game), it’s the cost + the insane tariffs/taxes they have to get it to market there. You gotta realize the US has absolutely to tariffs on imports. Just my 2 cents...

  • Here in South Africa it also costs the equivalent of US$86 seems a tad much comparatively even if i add taxes on top of the US or UK price.

  • @quadratatom306
That's standard pricing, i don't see the issue here.

  • I'm in the US and got it through the Microsoft store, it was $60 when I got it, so unless they jacked up the price from that time, I don't see the issue. All AAA games for years has been that price. Can't say anything for Europe, but wait for the game to release and watch gameplay videos of it. That's how I learned how to play the game and made a INFORMED choice on if it was worth the investment of time and the standard $60 AAA price. In just the Beta alone I have had more fun than any Multi-player game I have played. Interacting with other players is the reason to buy this game not collecting gold. That's just the means to that end. I just wish more people see it that way.

  • One more thing: It looks like everyone is looking at it from cost+tax at the exchange rate. The one thing you need to add to your equation is what your nation is smacking in tariffs on imports. The EU for instance has even some specific tariffs just for software/etc.

  • Oddly enough have you ever taken into account that the game will have its expansive contend completely free for everyone?

Most games with similar price tags relies on DLC or unintentionally prey on gambling addictions, DLC reliant games can cost up to double its launch cost and their vague promisees of unfinished content trough season passes, most of which barely justify the amount of content provided for its cost...

Do you really think just paying this much for a full, non DLC tied game should be too much of a hassle?

  • I have a hard time dropping $60-70 on a game as well. My solution? If I know it's something I'm going to get no matter what, I pre-order it at Gamestop far in advance and then put like ten dollars a pay on it.

If I'm on the fence, I tuck $10 a pay into an envelope. Either way, by the time the release rolls round I usually have it paid off.

  • @quadratatom306 sorry i think the price is right. There has been nothing quite like this previously, its a masterpiece of a game and worth every penny. By buying it you are investing in Rare and supporting a game that's a bit different and not following a formulaic path.

If you cant buy outright pay for a months gaming pass.

  • @hammy-hamstar Investing in future Banjo Kazooie, Conker, and Perfect Dark games and keeping Rare's lights on. If this fails because Rare fans did not buy it, Rare isn't making MS money and they see it as a money siv, they then close Rare down. Fans then grab their torches and pitchforks and bombard MS sites and Youtube videos on how MS is a terrible company for closing Rare like Lionhead before them. The gamers are reason they make these games, this may not be the game for you, but this game could be the desiding factor if Rare is going to exist in 2 or 3 years.

  • I have to say price is always the eye of the buyer. Back in 1981 my parents bought yars revenge for $70 on the Atari 2600 Was it worth it? Yes back then cause we loved that game as a family and use to go to the arcade to play and we’re glad that we could play it at our house.

Now the price for anything can be over priced but again that is the eye of the buyer. You might think a concert that charges $150 for a ticket is to much or a $50 steak is to much. So if you think the tickets are to much or the steak is to pricey, you don’t watch the concert or you don’t order the steak. We don’t sit there and tell the restaurant well I would of order the steak but it is to much. So please. Stop! telling developers that worked for 5 years on a game that the price point of the game is to much.

If it is to much the market will decided. If it doesn’t sell well then it will be on sale in a few months and then you can buy it for a cheaper price then. And if the game is great and doesn’t go on sale that means it is a well built game and it is worth the price. If you don’t want to spend the full price you have game pass which is $10 dollars a month or you can sign up when the game releases and get 14 days free. Now is free to much? Or $10dollars?

So again anyone can charge whatever they want, you don’t have to buy it.
