How about own music ingame?

  • Playing the instruments was fun in the beta, but in my opinion quite montonous for good. What about playing one's own music when playing the instrument? Maybe you could add a folder on the player's PC/Xbox where he/she puts in his or her favourite music mp3's and he/she can choose it ingame by the selection wheel? I know this could lead to abusement of the instruments but would it affect other player's experience that much? Muting the instruments of random players would be an easy option to secure everyone's voyage.

    What do you think?

  • No cause some people will implent earrapes.

aka music that no one likes to hear.

I think its fine right now, but they could add some POTC soundtracks,

But also the issue is that COPYRIGHT thingy.

  • Yes, you're not wrong, but is it Rare's fault if I play (maybe) copyrighted music in their game? Isn't that some legally grey zone?

  • Yeah, the problem is people may abuse the system and play songs that aren't deemed appropriate for the game's rating.

And, if you meant the characters in game play the music on the in-game instruments that's a whole nother story.

  • Also, may I add. There's a lot in store for shanties!

There'll be a big list of songs and instruments in the future, I assume

  • @limpleglenny What else should I mean? Playing the concertina whilst fighting versus skull bones with a controller?

  • It would be amazing to play the pirates of the Caribbean theme or something though!

I do love the idea, just wish it were possible. :(

  • @limpleglenny That's what I'm talking about. Just imagine what great music you could add to the gameplay - not to mention the Krusty Krab Remix :D

  • @final-wombat hahaha, that is definitely a piece of music I'd be playing all voyage long.

  • Adding custom mp3 would not work in the game. However, I have a different proposition:
What if there was a system to arrange notes for the hurdy-gurdy, concertina, etc. This way players can compose their own music and it plays as an option for the instruments.

Maybe this could avoid the copyright problem because it could be seen as a hurdy-gurdy or concertina cover of the original.

I wonder if this would actually work for most player or if I'm just speaking from a perspective where I know music theory. Maybe most people wouldn't be able to arrange anything listenable. But then players that can't compose could probably find already composed pieces on the internet that they can copy.

I would love to hear other opinions and counterpoints on this.

  • @dramaticalarm62

Of course it would be cool to arrange notes as a composer in the instruments. I really think it could be placed into the cover genre.
so that avoids the copyright issue, and Yes that would be cool to have community created composed (rearranged notes) to copy.

  • Please fer the love o' the Sea, d'nt do it!

  • No, I don't want to get Rick Rolled non stop. Pretty sure you will be able to buy more songs

  • @mattydove74 w*f thats scary i read this and that song played in a youtube video i was watching.

That would be an amazing idea how you could avoid copyright trouble. Would totally recommend this suggestion

  • Well I would have agreed for composers... But not for imported musics. If you could compose short tones and be a bard somehow, why not...

    Staf'

  • @stafylocok

Yea, thats the purpose, why not be able to have two options

play the music live or already composed.

    :O

  • @final-wombat Wholeheartedly disagree with this idea. This would only give griefers and trolls a new tool to use. Not to mention that it could be used to easily offend someone's race, religion, beliefs and sexual preferences.

    EDIT

You can always choose to play Pandora, iHeartRadio, or Spotify Music in the background (for those on console) and pretty much anything else, for those on PC.

  • @shadowstrider-7 I'm having difficulties imagining how it could offend someone's race, religion, beliefs and sexual preferences.

Also @FINAL-WOMBAT uhm... thank you for supporting my idea?.. I guess

  • @dramaticalarm62 So you're telling me that you can't understand how someone's personal taste in music might offend someone else?
Op was not specific. Importing an .mp3 is importing a whole song, with words. Imagine the damage that could be done with groups of people sailing by spamming derogatory music. Allowing a player to import their own music into the game would cause griefing on a whole other level. There would have to be heavy moderation in place for that to even work.

  • @shadowstrider-7 There's voice chat. Do people really think people can't already play music through that?

  • @vilksian Valid point, but in a game that requires effective communication, voice chat is an essential tool. Sure, it can't be moderated, but it's already present in about 90% of games. Adding the ability to spam your music in-game opens up a whole new can of worms. It would require new functions (i.e. having the ability to indiviually mute instruments) and cause many new problems, that are easily avoidable.

  • @shadowstrider-7 Playing music through the voice chat is as easy as downloading a simple program, at the most. The argument in this whole thread is pretty much negated by the power of google, unfortunately.

  • @vilksian I agree, which is why I don't understand this thread. All I'm asking is; Why give players another way to spam/troll/grief others? It's absolutely not needed, in my opinion.

  • @ShadowStrider-7 Oh ok you are talking about the mp3 playing as being offensive. There I agree. I even stated earlier in the thread that mp3 was impossible.

I thought you were talking about the suggestion of having users compose music for the instruments. In that case there are no words, there is only the music which has not immediate connotation. It would be quite difficult to be offensive with that.

  • @dramaticalarm62 lol correct. 👍🗡

Now that I would support 100%. I think I actually made a post suggesting something like this, but it was probably deleted in the tech-alpha purge.
