Crouching Mechanics; Good Idea or Bad?

  • What do you guys think of the addition of a crouch mechanic? It seems the sides of the ship on the deck can't be properly utilized for cover and players must hide behind masts, in the captain's quarters, or on the higher portions of the bow in order to mitigate damage from small arms.

  • @generaldorttv Good ☠

  • agreed theres a few times where i can do nothing and i get hammered crouching would have fixed my death

  • Crouching would be nice.

  • @generaldorttv

Ahoy there - we have a big discussion ongoing on a similar topic -

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/29332/make-ambushes-and-pvp-better-by-hiding-other-crew-s-names

  • @generaldorttv To be honest, I'm against cover mechanics in this game. I'm not saying that being able to crouch wouldn't be useful, but it just doesn't fit in with the idea the game is created around.
It's a PvE game, with PvP elements. Adding a mechanic like crouching would create more campers and further encourage griefing at Outposts and the like. The current mechanics for PvP require you to either engage first, or use your wits. I like knowing that if I shoot at someone on a ship, they have limited places to cover and limited positions to return fire from.

  • Yes, please.

  • @shadowstrider-7 I disagree that this is a Pve game with pvp elements id say its the complete opposite

  • @explosiveboby Ok, but take a look at what it contains. Quests are all PvE-based. Interactions with NPCs at Outposts is PvE. The only time you see PvP, is when you encounter another player or group of players. Even then, the interaction is not guranteed to bring PvP.

    EDIT

The Closed Beta saw a lot of PvP, but I honestly feel like that was the direct cause of lack of content and rightfully so.

  • @generaldorttv Ive been asking for this feature for a while. Doubt we will see it.

  • @katttruewalker Thank you! I'm new here and don't know how to navigate well.

  • I wouldn't mind if the game had it.

  • @shadowstrider-7 doing the same quests will get very repetitive, the reason people are going to come back will not be because of the same go here and do this

  • @explosiveboby The same can be said for any other game. Quests are essentially all the same. Leave A and go to B, Kill/loot, Return to A for reward. Almost every game follows the same forumla. What makes games unique are the interactions and experiences to be had along the way. Leave A to go to B, Get disctracted, Arrive at B, Kill/Loot, Return to A. I'm not saying that PvP isn't present in the game, but I'll wager on launch day (and the following months) it won't be as overwhelming as it was in the Closed Beta. You're right, though. People are going to return to Sea Of Thieves for it's social interactions. Whether that be PvP or making new friends.

  • I think it would fit in perfectly with the game, as it is a PvP game with PvE elements. Being able to take cover/concealment would be great.

  • I don't think so. Maybe all hitboxes are the same, but I've noticed some characters are fat and quite large, others are skinny.

Should the fat guy, or girl, be the easier to spot, compared to a skinny person crouching?

  • Of course crouching should be present. It doesn't exist a single valid reason for it not to.

  • @generaldorttv i think crouching would improve on the game a lot it would add a whole new level of complexity to the game.

  • Crouching should serve a dual purpose. One use would be to hide your player nametag for stealth. And another use would be to brace yourself for cannonfire so you cannot be knocked off the ship.

  • @natsu-v2
I'll take it further, crouching for enemy AI. Allow skeletons to shoot from a distance and actually requiring some skill to hit them

  • Good idea✔️

  • Would love it. Missed it a lot on the beta.

love those ideas, u could add faster aiming down side while crouching, a least in the direction u are facing
