The Jail/Griefing system is ridiculously sensitive.

  • So just to preface this, everything I was doing was not because I wanted to cause any trouble. I have been thrown in jail twice already. Once I was taking the ship just because my crew was having a gun fight with each other on an island and I wanted to get us moving. It put me in the jail and the ship kept sailing. It eventually hit something and we (just I actually) sunk and died.

The second time I removed a cannon ball so that I could shoot myself onto an island but the second I took it out I ended up in jail while they went on to the island.

I really like the idea but I think it is a little too sensitive on what is considered "griefing".

  • @guapos-advocate were you playing with a mic?

  • The Jail system, known as 'being sent to the Brig' is determined by the crew. Every member of the crew votes on whether to send someone to the Brig or to not send them.

Since this system is all dependent on the members of the current crew, you really are at the mercy of what your other crew members deem as normal play/griefing/or if they just want to mess around and throw people in the Brig randomly 'for fun'.

Having a mic, or at least trying to use the in-game quick chat is the best way to communicate with your crew to prevent Brig sentences (if playing with random pirates).

  • You can just get unlucky with a crew, though I will say from personal experience that the brig is extremely useful sometimes!

  • @bloodysmack No I didn't so I can understand the taking the ship might cause alarm but in the big picture I was trying to get us back on track and they could easily get back on the ship. Being out in jail caused the ship to crash and sink.

Then with the cannon ball, I can't confirm this is true but I imagine if I had shot it then I would have been fine. Instead I was trying to save ammo and that caused me to be put in jail.

If I had a mic I think I could have explained myself and made it work, but some of the things are a little ridiculous to be put in jail for.

  • Two big problems with the brig currently

    1. Most people will auto-brig you if you join a game and don't have a mic. This game is virtually unplayable if you don't have voice comms so if you want to play that way, its prob best to find a group of fellow non mic people and group up.

    2. In the beta you cannot make a private lobby or game for your friends. So yes when 3 of 4 join and while waiting for the 4th some random joins, they will auto brig them and ask them to leave or just wait for them to quit. This is just bad design and being brigged is the by-product of not being able to make invite only games.

If you were getting brigged and you were not griefing then those were prob the issues going on. Best thing to do i would suggest is join the discord server at https://discord.me/seaofthieves and hang out in the looking-for-group channel. Looking forward to sailing with you!

  • @montysnakebite yea I understand that. I just don't think you should have the ability to vote based off of me taking a cannon ball out of a single cannon. The ship thing I can understand.
