From the videos of gameplay I've seen, death really seems like something not nearly bad enough, and I think that should be changed so people value their lives more. In videos, if a player for example falls off their ship and dies to a shark, they can wait 20 seconds in the ferry of the damned, and then they're back. In that example, the player falling off the ship should be much more worried about what death brings to him/her.
Death Punishment
The consequence is being isolated while your ship gets looted of everything you might have acquired. All treasure gone, and potentially sunk, which also robs you of all of your ship resources you may have collected. That's enough tbh.
I don't feel like the game needs an actual punishment for death like losing gold, or whatever else. If thats the case alot of the fun an charm just becomes a hassle because "my health". Firing out of cannons in particular. And dont even get me started on getting drunk and falling off the crows nest or sharks.

I fell like this is the perfect answer, right now Rare does not want to make this game trolly, as in make it frustrating which will result in you leaving the crew or game altogether, I think the state SoT is at could be improved but they nailed the death situation!!

Yep, thats nicley explained :)
This is not the kind of game that needs some gold loss or something from the funds you have on character, i like that everything is physical ingame like the chests, your items on the ship etc. and until you bring it to an outpost it is never safe, meaning everytime you die and are not there to protect it a lot is at risk :D
