Ok Firstly I would like to say I loved the Alpha and that I have already pre-ordered the game, also I understand the game is still in development....but I am hoping there will be alot more different mobs in the game besides just skeletons and sharks. In my opinion to keep the game interesting for a long period of time they should have at least 20 to 30 different types of mobs. Im sure some will disagree with me, maybe a few types will be enough...but honestly in my opinion you would want to keep people interested and playing for years. Im sure they will have more mobs than just skeletons and sharks, I hope. On a second note....the crew size, maximum crew size is 4? I have a very large crew of people I play all types of games with regulary everyday....i have 15 people besides myself wanting to play this game together. If I already have a crew of 4 people there is no way i can invite other 4 person crews to my server to team up with or play against. We would have to server hop to find each other which would be extremely time consuming and also very frustrating. Im hoping Rare takes this into consideration and creates a way for more than 4 friends to play together. My friends and I want to have a massive 16 person crew to sail the high sea's with. Or at the very least 4-4 person crews that can easily join each others servers and still play together. But with the game still under development these things could change before the release. I certianly hope so....a 16 person crew using 4 different ships on day 1 release would be epic. Would love to have thoughts or answers. Thank you.
Mobs and Crew size? Development
@salty-muff1nz
People keep bringing this up over & over. There are pros & cons for having private servers.
It would be great for friends, but it would also be great for gankers & trolls, who could go around as a massive fleet terrorising everyone else. There is also the unfair advantage of treasure hunting & progression, which would be made far easier, due to no threats from enemy ships.
That said, some epic times would be had with a massive group of friends together!!@Salty-MuFf1nz - This post, more so than any other I've seen on the subject, simply reads to me as "Hi Rare, please provide tools and make it easy for me and my friends to pub stomp through your game, guaranteeing the misery of those we encounter.".
Or as @LogansDadToo points out, trivialises the PvE side by skewing the PvP balance formally.
Regarding mob types though, I'm pretty sure we have more coming than has been seen so far, can't remember exactly where but I think Rare alluded to this.
@oldmansutii I disagree, I think its perfectly reasonable to request for a more managed crew system. Like I've suggested in other posts, including my own, I think a Fleet Server & Standard Server options is at least a step in the right direction concerning this. If you joined a Fleet Server, you know full well you will be joining a server with Fleets in it. If you join a Standard Server, you know that the max crew is 4 and they only have 1 ship. I still think it's stupid to force your crew on to one ship, and it kills group immersion, but to satisfy all it is at least an option.
The fact you think this game will become a murder field because of a slight crew adjustment amuses me. I cannot wait to blow your peg-leg off in this game, it will bring me days of enjoyment and great pleasure. :)
@ethnine I agree, I dont think large crews/fleets will matter that much. The map is huge you can play for hours and not see a soul. Plus if they stick with 4 person crews and i have friends in the server that also have 4 person crews we are likely going to be off doing our own missions. But can provide back up for each other when needed. People that are planning to only grief other players are gonna realize they are going to fall behind on supplies and gold if they are out only to kill other players. It is a big complicated mess when it comes to the needs of all players. Hopefully a common ground can be met to satisfy all types of players and crews/clans/guilds
@ethnine also check this out dude while playing alpha with 2 friends we were a man short on the galleon. We cam across 2 galleons 8 ppl total that had met in that server and decided to team up. We owned them hard. Took out both their ships stole their treasure and dipped. Was freaking hilarious. So as long as you know what ur doing its not gonna matter much lol
@salty-muff1nz That is not only amazing, but also spot on. If you are organized and skillful you can take down a larger crew. Its a game, it is meant to be challenging. And Rare has said more than a few times that they want skill to outweigh a persons gear, and I cannot think of a better way of displaying ones skill by taking out a larger pirate crew with a smaller one.
NOTE I saw a video of two sloops teaming up against a single Galleon, I am sure the crew on the Galleon wished they could have had their 5th friend join them, because it looked like they were getting wrecked!
@ethnine Exactly, see we also came across a galleon with only 4 people. Was us 3 on our Galleon against them. We fought it out for almost 2 hours.....2 freaking hours hahahaha before we finally sank their ship. Skill should have alot more to do with the game than purely just having numbers or gear. Im really good at lobbing cannon balls wayyyy the heck out there and hitting ships from extremely far away. Plus constantly angling the sails into the wind. Using the anchor to turn around quickly and keeping enough supplies on the ship to fight long battles. Plus we also kept buckets of water in our inventory and when we boarded their ship we were throwing the water into their ship, ultimately causing it to sink l**o
@salty-muff1nz Wouldn't a 16 person crew obliterate any ship in its path and be op? All defenders of large crews say "but crew organization is important" yes I get that but a crew of 4 boats will still beat one ship handedly, even if less organized.

As far as it being super easy to progress with a crew so large, a good balance for that could be to cut the gold and progression into fractions distributed amongst the crew. So those sailing solo get to keep it all to themselves, a crew of four each gets a fourth of the reward, and these 16 buds each only get 1/16 of the rewards.
@frodj I've wall of texted the other thread on this subject, so will keep it short here as it's an identical discussion that we're likely better off having in one place, rather than split really.
Maybe the implementation of what you suggest with rewards being split among the entire fleet would be enough, though even with that would likely still need dedicated servers (and other changes) to be truly balanced in terms of risk vs reward.
@residentapple12 A crew size of 16 is definitely out of the question due to the sheer firepower that is available, especially if it is 4 separate ships that form a fleet. However, an increase in crew size to 1-8 or 1-6 might be a bit more reasonable. Seeing as how people have don't always have that many people online at once, it will probably be rare to encounter that. Guilds are a great alternative to the "supergrouping" nature of 4 separate galleons. They could share the same jolly roger and could strike fear into the feint of heart.
If they slightly increase the potential crew size (which I hope they can eventually do), I believe a medium sized ship such as a frigate would be a good idea. This ship would be between the size of the galleon and the sloop. A crew size of 6 or 8 would be more optimal for the galleon. With 3-4 people on cannons, 1 on repair, 1 steering the ship, and maybe one adjusting the sails or in the crows nest sniping. The frigate could have 2 large cannons on each side and maybe a small swivel gone on each side in the front or back. It would be a double masted ship and have 2 decks to it. It would create more diversity in play style. I feel that there are more pressing matters to attend to that will increase the level or replay-ability. Frigates might assist in the potential for replay-ability. Tell me what you guys think.
@oldmansutii perhaps. The sucky part is pretty much everything we say here is speculation, so we won't really have an answer until after the official launch.
