What legendary sea creatures would you like to see besides the kraken?

  • some interesting choices of land and sea creatures. I am really curious why half of this stuff hasn't been revealed yet, we usually see monsters really quick it makes me think that stuff is kind of an afterthought and they are banking on PVP lol but id love to be wrong. I hope they've taken a look at this thread or will when they return from Christmas.

    btw MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.

  • @chosen-predator seems to be the latter, after the massive success pvp had in 2017 with games like pubg and fortnite they seem to want to focus on that instead of having a lore rich game or pve mechanics, it's a shame though, i was already planning on ninja looting ships that were battling against big creatures, get them while they're distracted...to probably be obliterated by the same monster they're battling but still, such things add to the game but it's not necessary to be popular, i mean, pubg dips to under 10fps in console and it's only big map with lots of people and random weps thrown about, and that sold like 20 million copies, so why bother with a well-written story or world events or massive encounters

  • Ghost ships would be cool

  • @farfignu A megalodon skeleton easter egg would be cool. You would find a cave full of shark bones, find clues in there, fight sharks and find the skeleton, and use one of its teeth to make a rare sword.

  • cormorant Bird is a bird that is traditionally used as a fishing pet wearing a leash the bird dives into the water

There is a cormorant bird like dragon from Japanese mythologyalt text

  • Some Islands full of these. . .

  • Grendel and his mom (especially his mom).

  • @roshkavp follow the ghost ship to a island follow the ghost crew watch them bury a treasure watch them leave then dig up the treasure chest this could be a very rare chest Worth lots of coin.

  • @angel-rugal and that's why ESO has surpassed WoW and other mmo's in sales and Active accounts. It was very crowded over the holidays.
So much lore and pve content that it will take you literally years to do everything, every quest, so much that the game can be overwhelming...and just when you think you have seen and done everything they come out with a new DLC every 3-6 months.
They also do holidays events... And once your done with all that you can queue up for massive world PvP and start quest even there!!

Why are we talking about ESO? To use it as an example of how PvE content is still the #1 leader in longevity of a game.
PvP'ers get board fast and tend to jump from one game to the next big thing.
PvE'ers given extensive in-depth and interesting story driven lore and content tend to stick with that game for years.

As for SoT... The open world PvP is not bad, but as you said you get board fast...
Who will you ninja loot when no one is doing the pve content and everyone is only PvP'ing?

Can't go into much detail due to NDA... But Rare will need to get very creative on how to balance PvP and PVE...and perhaps expand out the map with more out posts to keep PvP'ers on their toes of where that ship they saw currying treasure might be going to sell.

Need to make PvP more challenging, and risky... Give PvP'ers some more interesting cenarios then just the easy spawn camping at limited Outpost.

As for PVE... Rare will be adding some interesting content soon.... hopefully this will be a never ending Expansion of the game like What made ESO so successful... Unlimited unique Quests.

  • Giant Whales, Sea Serpents, Giant Crabs/Lobsters, Leviathans, Hydras, Luska, Flesh Eating Mermaids, Sirens, Harpies, Giant Sharks, and Ghost Ships would be awesome!

  • @techno-warwitch we cant know for sure if eso is the most active mmo, how do i know? because wow and ff14 stopped giving out their numbers long time ago, what i know for sure is that i played the 3 mmos and eso was the most boring. not because of lack of pvp but because of the mechanics.

i dont really like wow either but i have a lot of respect for that game, for what it did for gaming as a whole and for opening up gaming for the masses, for showing every other company that if you do things the right way you have a money-making title that can last for literally decades

as for ff14 i have 2500 hours in, a story-driven mmo with very little pvp and that was a failure on launch, boy did they pick it up. it's one of the best games i have ever played and am still playing

another thing we dont know is what rare wants to do with SoT, their true intentions, they didnt even release their monetization scheme, all we have is some sneak peeks to very few snippets of content: a sniper rifle, exploding barrels, cargo missions, character customization and a boss fight...against yet another skeleton...yay...

everything else is guessing and wishing from the forums, did no one learn that devs and publishers should never be trusted? i mean look at the past years, look at EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Sean "one man's lie" Murray, even Peter Molineaux had to shut up and stop giving press conferences because every word out of that guy's mouth is a lie.

Rare hasnt lie to us yet, not that i know of at least, but that doesnt give them a carte blanche to start doing it because "hey, everyone else is doing it and selling millions"

  • @angel-rugal very true, it's hard to know 100% if a game releasing numbers is just another social media hype campaign or if it's legit numbers.
If it's on the news or social media it's most likely a fabricated fantasy and lie lol.

SoT has some good things they are working on... SoT is NOT going to be a traditional MMO. So we can "at this point" not expect to see Ever Quests, WoW, or ESO styles of story driven quests in the game any time soon, or at all.

Think of SoT more like GTA5 only on the high Seas and no one shot rocket launcher and Hydras lol.

Though I'm sure we will not be doing any drug Running from Outpost to Outpost eather lol.

Anyways yeah.... SoT has some unique mechanics and game play... We will have to wait and see where Rare is going with it in the PVE content.

  • Here is another video for ideas of mythical sea monsters that would be cool to fight in Sea of Thieves.

  • Here is another video if in real life monster-ish that could be put in SoT.

  • The Fog... And the The draugr or draug also called aptrganga or aptrgangr!

  • @techno-warwitch
Hey, I ehh.. just want to point out that if you click on the wheel/helm in the right corner of your post you can edit your post. This way, you can put all your videos in one post without having to make a new one each time :)

Regarding the topic, I think something like the Charybdis
    https://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/1/15659/4158866-charybdis-percy_jackson-sea_of_monsters-concept_art_by_sebastian_meyers-mouth.jpg

might be interesting, as you slowly get sucked towards your doom. But, that might have already been suggested.

  • @stalkrates A massive crab that sometimes defends sunken ships.

  • that is the true test for when BETA comes out to see what type of PVE content RARE has, I feel that is going to be vital for them, kind of a make or break moment because people will run off and judge it asap based off of that and bad word of mouth can spread like rain fire.

there is already this conception the game is just skeletons/sharks/pvp treasure hunting rinse repeat.

  • Giant Vulture that flies around the map

  • @vallioa said in What legendary sea creatures would you like to see besides the kraken?:

Giant Vulture that flies around the map

makes sense if you carry tons of livestock on your ship some sort of gigantic vulture attacks you

  • i would like to see a megaladon (giant shark) as well as maybe a sea serpent/leviathan, i also like the idea of a giant whale. maybe a ghost ship that roams the stormy seas.

  • I love haunty- teasy stuff like...

Imagine you are sailing and just sea a giant face in the mist, then nothing ever comes of it. I love that kind of mystery and tension.

Maybe you go diving at one point and just feel a shadow move over you, or you're in the crows nest one night and see a single tentacle rise and sink a distance away.

As for the actual threat question...
Sailing along and finding yourelf literally between Scylla and Charybdis would be so epic and terrifying, though thats one hell of a programming job I suspect.

Groups of sirens attacking the ship from the air would be cool too. I really don't know many sea-bound myths or legends though... Godzilla?

  • I love the idea of Sirens and Selkies and other smaller sea creatures. On islands you could have crocodiles in the rivers and ponds. I also love the idea of Moby D**k, and maybe Sea Serpents. But what about ghost pirates or other notorious pirates for bosses? Davey Jones and Blackbeard and others. Or battles with the British Royal Navy, hunting down pirates. Just a few ideas.

I would love it, great idea!!
I was thinking also of some kind of lights in the sea coming from the deep.

  • What about the mighty Leviathan? That's another well known one I think, right? Guardian of Atlantis? Well, in the movie anyway...

  • @inbred-chimera that's a great idea showing the psychological effects that could happen, blend some horror in the world mixed with mystery, you're just sailing with your crew and weird stuff just starts to mess with the crew.

Certain individuals seeing something but you yourself see nothing, lol. This could be an event that happens if a crew member drinks himself drunk.

  • @maximillianzeus said in What legendary sea creatures would you like to see besides the kraken?:

    @chosen-predator

I would love t' see Nipper the Giant Hermit Crab from th' RARE game Banjo & Kazooie from its level Treasure Trove Cove!

An' make Nipper immune t' ranged attacks so you have t' get close with yer sword.

A giant crab in general would be cool, but that would be a REALLY awesome Easter egg!

  • @chosen-predator that would be awesome, maybe there'd be certain threats only visible when drunk. So the drunk go keeps saying he's seeing ghosts and he is actually seeing ghosts....

  • @jetorchidee97 I love how the game Journey used light as a guide, there could be an enemy that produces a gold shimmering light just beneath the surface to imitate treasure and draw in victims....

Lights always draw people in, its a good way of guiding players towards something interesting without giving it away too early.

  • @chosen-predator I'd honestly be satisfied with just the Kraken!

    Here's my list though.

    1. Kraken- Because it's a pirate game in a fictional world
    2. Leviathan- Almost as infamous as the Kraken
    3. Megalodons- Because bigger is better
    4. A giant ship attacking whale would be nice;)- Heart of the Sea
    5. Hostile Mermaids- Where good shines, evil lurks
    6. Skeleton Shark- Already skeleton pirates, so why not skeleton sharks?
    7. Some Atlantis and it's own species and Hydra guarding the throne- This one is pretty far fetched but hey
  • The leviathan or the monster of loch ness
