Ideas for more fun and action in the game

  • First idea: bring an NPC party into the game that everyone hates,
so that there are NPC islands and ships that can only be defeated with multiple ships and teams.

Second : strong end bosses (sea monsters) which can only be defeated with several ships

Third : drinking games in the pub, knife throwing for money ...

Fourth: a neutral island for commerce and fun.

  • There is a a few things I'd like if they decide to make NPC appear organically give crews a NEMESIS this goes back to the days of CHAMPIONS ONLINE, where you were capable of creating your own nemesis.

"Making the Nemesis a "character" meant that we could give it all the tools we give our regular players -- each Nemesis gets its own costume, its own name, its own powers, its own minions, and its own back story. That also meant we had to do a significant amount of work to store and manage other full characters attached to your main character.

We also wanted to make sure that the Nemesis system fit in well with the rest of the world. We needed to integrate it with the mission system so it felt natural, not like a separate game that you played for a while before getting back to the main plotline"

It was a pretty interesting feature obviously as time has passed Shadow of Mordors has expanded on that idea and made it much more interesting.

Sea creatures would be fantastic but i would love to see them retreat and appear at RARE occassions, so it'll have battle scars from battles with others or previous battles with you..not sure how they plan to do this but i would love some sea monsters to live sort of like a good TV Series they may retreat but will return at a later season more intelligent to your tactics.

Weather I would like to see MASSIVE waves, Snowy ships with iced decks making ti slippery to stand on, dealing with hurricanes..rogue waves all sorts of MOTHER NATURE enemies.

I want to see lots of trade, livestock, breeding livestock, selling it into the market, spices - I want a Fishing pass time game...I basically want to see changes in the world.

NPC that are left unchecked for a time will eventually venture into the sea and cause you problems, sort of like the Tabula Rasa feature if you didn't do anything for awhile the enemy would grow stronger.

  • @ingamosch I'd love liars dice and cards to be a thing. Heck I'd buy a real pack if the art work was good enough!

  • Those sound really good, Ingamosch.

I think back to Everquest and the roaming griffin in the East Commonlands that everyone was always on the look out for. I could see this translating into a 'Flying Dutchman' navigating the seas by night or in bad weather. Imagine the lump in your throat when you see a behemoth ghost ship cut through the fog and give chase.

  • I would like to see some boarding mechanics in game like grappling hooks or something of that nature. I want to see more abilities that enable boarding of ships.

  • PVP Arena as a zone where Players turn in their guns and swords at the entrance. Able to challenge other swashbucklers to the death and for cool titles.

More rocks and obstacles in the ocean. More stuff to crash into. Maybe even in areas where they have harder quests. Challenge me plz

Shark zones with swarms of sharks. Players who fall in the water here get eaten in seconds.

Pregame lobby or in game friends list. With Xbox and pc players on the same servers, it’s hard to meet people to play with. I can’t add friends from PC to my Xbox live account friends list until I play with them in game randomly. It’s easy to find other Xbox users to play with.

English speaking zones or preferences on who you play with. Ex: be able to get another player with a mic. Someone who isn’t just standing still for 90% of the adventure.

Boat armor upgrades: use large amounts of planks to upgrade the boat. Maybe while it’s upgrading, the boat can’t sail. Slower with the extra armor.

2 cannons on the small boat. Large one has a cannon for each player on both sides. Even it out plz. Currently unbalanced IMO

Smaller secondary sails for small boat. It’s quite boring with 2 people on the small boat.

Single shot gun should be less accurate. Those old handguns were horrible inaccurate. They did have decently accurate rifles.

Leave a tombstone or marking where players die. Could be fun to decorate the boat with these.

No magical conch shell to summon the merman? He appears in annoying spots. Maybe we could summon him when the shell glows or something.

There are a few. I’ll post more later when I get more time. Sorry if there are any repeat ideas.

YES. So I have been thinking heavily on boarding mechanics, and my ruminations yielded the following...

One: I think, in addition to only anchoring, there should be mooring. Throw your looped line onto the end of the dock to offload your loot. Throw your line ending in a grappling hook to latch onto a ship you wish to board.

Two: Cutting lines. Swinging your cutlass to sever a line would fit with anti-boarding efforts (repel their boarding efforts) AND with ship sabotage--get on board and cut the lines to their sails so that they cannot give chase until repaired, making for a clean getaway with the stolen loot.

Three: Fire. I saw someone mention it, and I think that its implementation would be spectacular. Imagine sacrificing your lantern to set fire to the enemy deck!

Caveat: I am no programmer, so there is always the risk that I am asking for the moon.

  • Oh, and mooring to a derelict ship would make far more sense than to drop your anchor in the middle of the ocean.

I do really like the idea of "pirate code" having you turn in your weapons for entering an outpost.

More rocks and obstacles in the ocean. More stuff to crash into. Maybe even in areas where they have harder quests. Challenge me plz

I was thinking the opposite--that there should be more open space between islands and/or clusters of rocks.

Shark zones with swarms of sharks. Players who fall in the water here get eaten in seconds.

Someone once shot my character when I was in the water and soon after there were three sharks, all wanting to e****e. Whether or not this was coincidence, it spawned the idea of a 'chum in the water' scenario. I got shot, so I assumedly bled. Sharks plus blood....

2 cannons on the small boat. Large one has a cannon for each player on both sides. Even it out plz. Currently unbalanced IMO

When trying to fight, yes, the sloop was far outclassed by the galleon. However, I thought they were balanced because a) the galleon takes more coordination and effort to match speed with the sloop and b) the sloop can outmaneuver the galleon by leaps and bounds.

  • Think a larger island where player turn in their arms at the entrance to a bustling port town is a really cool idea. That, or have some very high powered NPC guards that fling people in jail for a 'time out' if they attack other people. I like the idea that instead of limiting someones ability to play the game how they want, incentivise them to play it in a cooperative way. I also think in-game actions should have in-game consequences. You can play whatever role you want, but the game will react with consequences.

  • @ingamosch Anyone else like the idea of being able to fish off the side of the ship instead of just cramming bananas into your mouth? Take a step further and you've got shark fishing. Take it another step further and we've got a whole new line of Jaws-esque hunting quests. "We're going to need a bigger boat!"

  • @caestus And while we're at it, give us harpoons! :p

  • Someone once shot my character when I was in the water and soon after there were three sharks, all wanting to e****e. Whether or not this was coincidence, it spawned the idea of a 'chum in the water' scenario. I got shot, so I assumedly bled. Sharks plus blood....

I like that idea. Lol. Dump chum in the water when they try to board and miss the ladder.

But I think a shark infested area could have some potential. They could have valuable stuff to make it worth exploring.

  • Let me introduce you to a feature called... dolphin simulator

    alt text
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/19892/pirate-game-in-ue4
Once Rare hires me as senior software engineer I can lead the dolphin simulation team

  • I had a few Ideas for the game

1- Make holes on the candles to reduce te max speed of the ship.
2- Add the Fire as an arm to burn the ship, if you had water to drop the ship, why not fire?
3-Use ropes to park the ship near the bridge of the outpost, because is kind of difficult parking whitout lateral movement or reverse.

  • I would love to have option to hire NPC to take care of my ship. Resupply ship, go on small voyages and make small amount of gold while I'm offline and so on.

  • Building our own ships would be great. Let's say that you don't really want to fight so building ship that is not strong but really fast would be answer to that problem.

  • ein Beiboot wäre toll um zu den Inseln zu fahren
und ein passiv Modus für das schiff wenn sich keiner drauf befindet zumiest im out post

  • Caveat: I am no programmer, so there is always the risk that I am asking for the moon.

The perfect requirement is asking for what you want NOT suggesting a solution. As such you've given perfect ideas to the dev team. Also, props for your wordcraft!

Source: 5 years (almost) of dev for MS (not games!!!) in a boring, work-related platform :D

Ps. I love the idea about cutting sails. Also think, to the same end, a twin cannon, two person chain shot to take down rigging would be EPIC!

  • @chosen-predator

Exactly! Hurricanes, rouge waves, tsunamis and volcanoes would be amazing!
