Skill base match making

  • The skill base match making in this game does not work. We have lost twice in a row and still coming up against the same people we fought. Because it dont work less people are playing as its not enjoyable and then it means less pirates going into hourglass hence only seeing the same people over and over. This really needs to be looked at especially if you want players to come back.

The system is designed to match you with someone close to your skill issue. If another crew can't be found, do you think those players should stay underwater for hours? Rare didn't think so either, so you'll be matched with the crew that fits your parameters (sloop, brig, etc.).

  • Try sailing the open seas and attack a random ship. Same result or did you win?

That current way how hourglass works. You get a pvp fight, that is all. Regardless of “skill”

Hello! They're not talking about the general high seas experience, they're talking about Hourglass matchmaking, and specifically the matchmaking system. The Hourglass experience, unlike the overall adventure mode gameplay, does feature skill-based matchmaking, to hear the developers tell it, so they would not have the same experience as attacking a random ship in adventure mode, as that functions in a different fashion to how Hourglass works.

As to the matchmaking you are experiencing, OP, there seems to be some issues recently, given the volume of posts on the matter on this forum of late, with this feature, which means your experience may be unintended by the developers. Let's hope they address this upswing in unbalanced matches somehow, some time soon. I do wonder whether it's a population issue - it's only anecdotal, but I've seen a lot of people just playing adventure mode, of late.

  • Hourglass has been out for 4 years now. Have you been playing it for years like the daily HG community? I'm a daily HG player. I haven't been playing for 4 years but the past 2 now and if you are just starting out you are way behind unfortunately. As @Europa4033 and @BurnBacon have both made valid points. HG tries to match you with someone your MMR but if you are newer it will probably not have much luck due to the community that plays are very high leveled. Not many new players are on so they could just leave you underwater and you never get a match. Is that fair though? I fight people all the time higher leveled than me still even though I have a high MMR but there are tons way more advanced than I am at HG. I don't get mad about it though. That's the point of HG. You fight others and learn to play it. I have fought many high leveled players and beat them. It's just learning to play the game and get the advantage. If it's too hard for you no one is forcing you to play HG. Go PvP people on adventure like burnbacon suggested you do. Again there you may still run into gold curse people. Eventually if that is your goal you will get there if you just learn by watching how the daily HG community plays that you are being matched against. Ask them for some pointers.

  • @elmo6842 I think you haven't experienced it, it seems to not be affecting everyone but something has definately changed since the blige rat weekender. I'm experiencing the same 23 losses in a row yesterday, 6 streak the day before and 16 streak Tuesday. Something has definately changed and not for the better whether intentional or untentional but it also doesn't seem to be affecting all players. Tried yesterday with a couple of regular people i play with and most ended up quitting after 4-5 games and they said the same its not playable in the state we were getting yesterday. And yes i play daily or at least 4-5 times a week and have done for a long while so you can feel when something is off

The problem with Hourglass is that it doesn’t have the player count to support good MMR queues because the game is on its last legs with low interest. MMR does exist and is factored into your matchmaking, but it’s thrown heavily in favour of finding you a match

I do agree with new players being STOMPED due to poor new player MMR range, it’s the matter of the fix I don’t know how they’d go about. The real answer is get more players into even just adventure, but with lacklustre update quality and zero returning player loyalty I think Rare is determined to do the opposite
