Game ruined because of mechanics

  • Ahoy maties.

I know this feedback wont help at all. And i also know that some people are gonna keep mocking and bullying and teasing or whatever the hell you want to call it.
But, I am a player from 8 years ago. This is not my main account ofc. But back then there were no cheating. No toxicity. No breaking alliances...

Sure, we were pirates. We were thieves. But we were honest.
    Streamers ruin games as usual.

Sea of Thieves was the second most amazing game in all of pirate games back then (first one being AC4)
Now im not speaking for the community here. People nowdays say "we're pirates" and that justifies everything for them.
But i am speaking as a player who loved this game 8 years ago. Who still loves this game's graphics, mechanics and contents.

When im playing this game and have over 3m loot on my deck i dont to fight anymore. As soon as i see players i leave the game because i know i'll lose. My prime is over i cant beat people anymore.
ESPECIALLY not when they "no scope 360 one shot snipe" me from a knot away. Or when they shoot themselves with cannons and grapple gun a KEG like a B2 Spirit. Or when they constantly target you and come after you for the 6th time with literally no loot just to annoy you and keep you from selling. Or when they camp on reaper's hideout just to wait until you come full of loot, kill you and raise an emissary and sell the loot themselves. Or when they kill you and spam "Rolls on deck laughing"

This is not Sea of Thieves anymore. Sea of thieves ended when people figured how to switch between blunder and eye.

We used to fight like real pirates. Hours of shooting cannons at each other. Running out of supply. Having epic sword battles that would make the voice chat go absolutely nuts when a guy saves the whole ship. We used to bring KEGs to the ships as a tactic. Wait half an hour in the water just for the ship to get in the right position. We used to sneak our ways in the enemy ships and grab Athena chests or FoFs and just run for our lives. We used to run like a chicken with his head off when we had +100k loot on our ship and saw an enemy.

That's Sea of Thieves. Literally pirating. Not bullying. Not cheating. Not destroying the game and saying "OH IM SUCH A COOL GUY"

Go play an FPS game and do anything you want. But here? Here its not about being a "cool guy" its about looting and thieving and pirating. Not coming for the burning blade for the 6th time when you died the last 5.

Our life changing tactic was the bug when you could hang from the ladder from the sloop window. That was the most epic tactic that tryhards used to do.
But now? Well... you probably know better than me.

They added the PVP option for yall to go and exploit AS MUCH as you want. Use any stupid tactics you want.
But when i loot for 8 hours straight. Not seeing a single ship on map to hunt as reapers, and then when im selling 3m worth of loot then a gally comes up from the other end of the island from his camp spot and destroys me? that aint this game. Or at least it wasnt used to be.

Safer seas is such a stupid option, you dont even need to have it. High seas is a real experience. But i expect Pirates in high seas. Not some camper/hacker/bully.

So a leveling system would be great. But whats the point of Piracy when you have a leveling system ?
My idea was to add mechanics thatll ruin these tactics somehow but like i said, no one cares and why would anyone?

Anyways, wish yall a good pirating session and sorry if i offended anyone.

(Also sorry if my english was bad.)

Is the mechanic you’re referring to pvp? Seems to be, but you also expressed nostalgia over fights you use to have; all of those things you mentioned liking before, still happen. You think people don’t have long fights exhausting supplies? You think people aren’t using kegs? They are. It sounds to me like you used to do pirating but have since chosen not to because reasons. How often do you encounter cheats in adventure mode? They’re typically living in hourglass. Why would you have $3M on your ship, and then you’d just ditch it when someone comes to contest it? I don’t get it.

I started in 2023 so I can’t speak to these good old days, but I seriously doubt that people weren’t breaking alliances. It sounds like you’re just encountering normal sea of thieves situations. Of course someone is going to try and steal your $3M in loot, especially if you’ve been basically advertising your farming it on the map. It sounds like you like to play reaper, you think people can’t guess what you might be doing sitting at (insert island) for 2 hours?

You don’t need to be in your “prime” to enjoy a silly pirate game. I’m old in gamer years and only play on the weekends anymore due to time. I do just fine because I made a point of improving my survival skills.

Sorry, but it sounds like you just got robbed of a huge stash that you probably carelessly collected and for some reason felt entitled to selling it without anyone contesting. Now you’re lashing out at all things pvp related and are lumping the people who sunk you into a broad stroke of cheaters/exploiters/toxic players. I’d wager that you sunk to normal people, then maybe even had some choice words with them as a prelude to this post.

It’s just a game, a game that requires some vigilance. Stop running reaper for a while. Play to your abilities. Sorry for my bluntness but these post get old. Like do you like PvP or not, and which mechanics are you even referring to?

  • But back then there were no cheating. No toxicity. No breaking alliances..

Sure, we were pirates. We were thieves. But we were honest..

    Yes. Yes, there was.
Toxicity was minor; often people just yelled at each other and laughed later. Today, you sneeze wrong way at someone, and it's labeled as toxic or stealing.

Breaking Alliances was always the norm and expected. If you didnt at least once or so, it was strange but still fun to catch people in the act and turn the tables.

Like Toxcity. Cheating was minor and either you never noticed or because of "Arena/Hourglass" didnt promote the need too.

As soon as i see players i leave the game because i know i'll lose.

Well...that waste of time even logging in.

Hours of shooting cannons at each other. Running out of supply. Having epic sword battles that would make the voice chat go absolutely nuts when a guy saves the whole ship. Good times.,

Clearly you never were here when Forts were the source of all goodies, and people camping Ports nearby. :P

Safer seas is such a stupid option, you dont even need to have it.

You can simply mental block it. Dont use it or ackknowlege it.

But i expect Pirates in high seas. Not some camper/hacker/bully.

    I expect and prefer campers.

So a leveling system would be great.

"All are Equal on the Seas"

  • @rainboworc12758 i have been here since before day one and i am sorry to tell you but your memory of back then is scewed beyond reason.

While the alliance mechanic didn’t exist at release lying to people and feigning working together has been a thing since day one, stealing, tucking/hiding on islands etc all was a thing since day one.

While they weren’t as prevalent back then cheaters certainly where a thing back then and sp where double gunners.

Anyways, long story short, your memories are tainted with rose colored glasses

  • Even in the early days the advice was, "Don't sail around with more loot than you care about to lose", having 3 million worth of loot on deck is asking for problems.

  • @rainboworc12758 said in Game ruined because of mechanics:

When im playing this game and have over 3m loot on my deck i dont to fight anymore. As soon as i see players i leave the game because i know i'll lose.

Is this exaggeration or if not why stack to such a huge degree if you are unwilling to engage in PvP?
Sounds like a good way of just frustrating yerself.

  • @capt-greldik

Yes, People still use KEGs and...
But how you use them is important.
We used to sit in the water for half an hour, waiting for our crew to bring their ship towards us just so we can explode the keg inside them. We didnt shoot ourselves with the cannon and grapple the keg and leave it when its the right time. This aint War Thunder you aint bombing tanks mate.
Strategy is dead in this game.
I started in 2021, left the game in 2023 and now im back. your "old game years" is way over for me mate im 40. So when i go into a fight and see someone shooting snipers from the other ship to kill you, i leave the game. I cant compete with these guys and i know it and its completely fine. But when i see the other guy is actually fighting with his ship, and starts toxicity i do it back. Its a pirate game after all. Even if i lose we just say GGs and leave the server. I dont expect quick scopes in this game from the other ship, or grapple the keg thingy, or ...

And cheaters are way worse in high seas than hourglass because they have access to the whole map. The guy just shoots 3 chainshots with one cannon at my ship instead of normal cannon balls.

Thanks for the reply btw ! i didnt actually expect anyone to comment lol.

  • @burnbacon

Today, you sneeze wrong way at someone, and it's labeled as toxic or stealing.

No. Toxicity isnt sneezing at someone. i aint soft mate lol.
We used to be toxic. Curse in pirate accents and do anything we could to get on the minds of the other crew. But when we were sunk or when they were sunk we would say GGs and have a good laugh about it before we leave the server (unless we had loot).
Today, when you sink someone they come back with 20 cannon balls to kill you. You kill them again. They come back again. And repeat. Did they have any loot? No. And finally when they get to sink us theyre like "AHAHAHAHA SUCH A LOSER" while im like okay you finally got us GGs.
    Thats toxicity.
We never insulted people in the game. But when we lost or won there were laughs and compliments not curses or swearing.

Breaking Alliances was always the norm and expected.

Yes. But not when you were selling loots. We would turn on each other and kill each other just because we could see them in the map. But we never pulled the flag down when we were selling loots. Or anything like that.

    Like Toxcity. Cheating was minor

Wasnt minor. Just wasn't important. Because when we got to a cheater and he destroyed us with 20 KEGs we used to ask him to show us more. It was cool. The guy wasnt on a blood streak like some kind of bloodhound.

Well...that waste of time even logging in.

I Log in to play the game. Not to deal with some tryhard on High Seas shooting me with his sniper from a knot away. When you know you will lose, you wont fight back because its a waste of time. While the guy is tryharding to sink me i can literally start another session and have a good fight on hourglass without the guy sniping me from a knot away.

"All are Equal on the Seas"

Yes. That is why i ask for better mechanics instead of a leveling system.

Thanks for the reply mate, really.

  • @callmebackdraft

    I was here in 2021 - 2023.
And yes, destroying the alliances was a thing. We all used to do it just because we saw an enemy on the map.
But putting an alliance flag, then pulling it down and start shooting wasnt in the book. Putting it down when we were selling stuff wasnt in the book. Shooting us in the reapers hideout while everyone was docked wasnt a thing.

Thanks for the reply though! really appreciate it.

  • @lem0n-curry

In the early days we only had FOF which gave an athena chest and the whole loot was worth around 300k

Today, one Reaper Fort + FOF gives something like 800k
    Thats A LOT.

In the early days we stacked FOTD because if you got 10 of them you could have 1m. The spatula thingy was 80k
Now 1 FOTD gives you enough so you dont have to stack them.

    Thanks for the comment though!

  • @rainboworc12758 inflation on loot and supplices combined with almost nothing to spend gold on killed lot of scavenging and tensions in game.

I'm day one player too and I must say that's is hard nostalgia - nothing beats year one when land was uncharted there was almost no lore (with each addition is stupider and more childish) and we all were figuring out game.

Sadly that feeling will not come back. It's time to move one. I jumped into another sandbox dead game few years ago and I still have ton of fun.

Sometimes it's best to keep nice memories of one game and find something new.

  • Gonna keep it real, it sounds like you just hate that people have become more skilled and enjoy the combat in this game. Several other Pirates out there use Sword Flintlock, people who Alliance and work together, you just let the experience of good players capable of taking all the loot for themselves ruin it for you.

Also, 3 Million? Just sell at that point. What's the advantage of keeping that much loot on your boat?
