Prevent lowering Emissary Flags when enemy ships are nearby

  • I think it should not be possible to lower an Emissary Flag while another ship is nearby.

The game already uses this kind of restriction in similar situations: crews cannot dive to another server when a ship is too close, and the Burning Blade cannot be handed in if an enemy vessel is nearby. The same logic should apply to Emissary Flags.

Right now, some crews can avoid the risk of losing their flag by quickly reaching an outpost and lowering it while another crew is actively chasing them. The Emissary system is supposed to create a risk versus reward situation: you gain more gold and reputation, but you accept the danger of becoming a valuable target.

If a ship is close enough to prevent diving or handing in the Burning Blade, it should also prevent lowering an Emissary Flag. This would encourage crews to defend their flag, escape properly, or win the fight instead of removing the risk at the last moment.

This change would make Emissary gameplay more consistent and keep the risk/reward balance fair.

No it shouldn't. Your examples are both where a ship just vanishes, so there won't be a ship left te battle. Lowering an emissary doesn't make the ship dissapear. That flag is not the same as diving or BB, it's way more like 'normal' treasure. And if that crew can reach the emissary table to lower a flag, then they would also have been able to sell 'normal' treasure. So it's logical to be able to sell that flag.

Just like they can avoid the risk of losing treasure by quickly reaching an outpost and selling it.

And when they lower it, they lose that reward. You act like there is no consequence in lowering it... You forget that that risk-reward is voluntary, so they can always opt-out if they want.

No it won't encourage crews to fight, they will just use a Pirates Tall Tale portal to switch servers.
And it doesn't remove a risk of a fight, because when they lowered their flag, you can still attack their ship. It only increases the risk that they have to fight if they lower the flag... You just don't like the idea that others can cash in their loot (yes, that flag is also considered loot)

No, it wouldn't. In fact, it would make it even more unbalanced, since you want to give all the power to the (possible) attacker and nothing to the (possible) defender. Part of the risk for the attacking party is that the defending party can quickly sell their valuables. You just want to make that impossible and remove the risks for the attacker. The risk/reward belance between attacker and defender is already very uneven, this would only make it worse.

Not only that: you basicly just want to force people to fight you, but nobody owes you a fight. That is part of the game.

  • If I can’t reap the rewards of my grade 5, nobody should either. So I’ll drop it before you get the reward of taking it

And I have no way of retrieving it….

  • No.

This was acceptable as the Burning Blade but not necessary as regular emissary.
Cannon of Rage allows forward firing so tools are there if you have the skill to prevent dropping of flag.
