More Colour Variety for Sailor Cannons

  • In hourglass, we almost always use Sailor Cannons or Golden Sailor Cannons only.
Some of us also use the Rogue Sea Dog Cannons and Ruffian Sea Dog Cannons.
    They have the same shape.
We're used to the field of view while aiming with these cannons.
We've developed a feel for how to high to aim with these sailor cannons at various distances.

Since a lot of pvp hourglass players aren't going to use other cannon shapes,
can we get more colour variations of the same "meta" sailor / sea dog cannons?

Bronze sailor cannons please? titanium blue ones too?

Something about this reminds me of old dark adventurer sails.

Seem to be a weird thing to say. Why? Dont you know how to use the other ones, even outside of hourglass?

Oh, so its a not about the design, it lack of skill here. :P Skillful players would us whatever design and idk...learn how to aim and fire with it. So you feel happy about using your favorite cannon design and still hit your shots.

    • yup lack of skill everyone proved it

I mean if you’re happy with a mass of floof in your face from some extravagant cannon set, by all means, go for it. People who spend time trying to hone their cannon skills typically aren’t, though. So yea, some cannons are popular for that reason. But you already knew that ;)

If you think it’s a skill issue, go prove it.

The most skilled players in this game, all use sailor cannons and their variations, because they are the simplest cannons.
No skilled player will use cannons that have too much going on on them, or are asymetrical.

  • @dermasterbob this whole mindset is why I laugh at competitive gaming. If you can only aim with 3 specific cannon skins, you clearly need to improve at the game.

  • @ewokbuilder They can, they just chose to not use things that block your vision more. Because why would you?

  • @rambobrad someone would use good looking cosmetics in a cosmetic based game because the point of the game is that you can use whatever cosmetics you want

  • You can judge and criticize pvp players however you like. Unskilled? Clearly needs to improve in the game? Whatever. Doesn't matter to me.
Fact is, the vast majority of pvp players will only use default/golden sailor cannons or sea dog cannons.
Especially when playing on a galleon hourglass. The choice of cannons affects the entire crew, not just the main cannoneer. Everyone agrees on the standard sailor cannon shapes only.
Plus, it's easy to communicate - whoever hits their shots can say aim with 1st/2nd/3rd ring now. Standard communications.
Most players enjoy the variety of cosmetics in this game, but not at the cost of any unnecessary/unrewarding handicap/difficulty/disadvantage.

Rare can confirm this by looking at hourglass data. Which cannons do experienced players use 99% of the time?
Everything else about the ship cosmetics can be different - sails/livery/figurehead/etc, but cannons are uniform - golden/default sailor cannons or sea dog cannons.
I've played hourglass galleon with a lot of people found from the SoT official discord. Enough to gain 900+ allegiance levels. Almost everyone uses these cannons only, if they're trying to win.
Even in other pvp games, u'll notice that most weapon skins traded/sold provide variety in colour, not shape - with some trinket that doesn't get in the way.

If Rare wants to see more high seas players using/buying/enjoying more varieties of cannon cosmetics, more colour varieties for the players' favourite cannon models in the shops should help.

  • @ewokbuilder girls look good in high heels, but they won't go jogging in them.

Why not have more skins that don't take up more of your screen? I don't see how someone could be against cosmetics in this cosmetic based game.

The whole point of competitive gameplay, is to get every advantage you can get, to play as good as you can.

Using the standard cannon doesn't mean you cant use other cannons, it means you understand that using a clean, symmetrical, not animated cannon, that doesn't block your view and doesn't distract you, is better.

And yes I understand that this game only has cosmetic progression, but a ship has many other customisation options, that dont impair my vision while shooting.

  • @raft2c7c

I'm a pvp player, and i don't "only" or "always" use Sailor cannons or Golden sailor cannons only.
In fact, i NEVER use those. :)
I either use the eternal freedom cannons, the stormfish chaser cannons, cartographer cannons, or gold leaf cannons :)
And yes sure, most pvp players use cannons who don't block more of the screen.
But there are plenty of other cannons in the game that don't block more of the screen than the sailor ones, you're kind of overreacting here for some reason. :)
More recolors? sure, if they wanna do it, fine for me.
If not, don't care about it either way.

    Greetings, Hal.

    Hello exception.
As I've implied, most players, not all players. In my 1st post at the start of this thread: Line 1 says "almost always", not "always" and Line 6, says "a lot of", not "all".
I described anecdotal data to support my suggestion for more recolors of sailor cannons.
How is any of this "overreacting"?

As with all suggestions on this forum, it's up to Rare on whether to use it or not - based on their own direction / priorities / data / resources / etc.

Yea, you tell those best players in the game how bad they are!

  • @capt-greldik only the best when they have one specific skin equipped

  • @ewokbuilder

Hey, you’re the expert man, don’t let those way better than you pirates get away with their cannons of choice nonsense.
