I feel that friendly skeletons you can dig up should act as crewmates, this could work as a replacement, depending on the boat size you could have morw skellys, if you have a 4 person boat and you're alone you could have up to 3 crewmate skeletons, and this applies to all the boat sizes, small boat you can have one crewmate skeletons if you're solo. This should be so you can choose which one, like you can have as many skeletons as you can dig up on an island but you have to leave them there unless you choose them to be a crewmate
Ship Boarding Friendly Skeletons
@burnbacon you could assign them to certain tasks, such as aiming canons or fixing the ship when damaged, though they shouldn't be able to be assigned to steer
As much as i love the idea of having a skeleton crew i genuinely think having them being able to use cannons and repair would be a bit op because skeletons cannon aim is amazing i mean when fighting a skeleton ship they can hit so many shots on your boat.
Imagine going on a sloop with a whole bunch of skeletons and then doing hourglass with those skeletons on your boat firing at the other boat, it would not be fair for the other ship unless they also have skeletons on their boat but the likelihood of them having skeletons on their boat would be very low.

One final thing to add on to what i said is that i think that this idea would be unbalanced for pvp ship fights especially hourglass.
@xorzius i do agree, so i think they should be nerfed, like taking 20 seconds to repair one hole and the cannon aim should be aimed manually by the player and then the skeleton shoots in that one spot
I don't really see the point, skeles won't know what holes to prioritise repairing. Cannon skeles won't know when to spread holes vs knock cannoneers off etc. They don't guard ladders and only attack people when they have climbed to the top.
It would be like having really bad crewmates, probably easier to just solo sloop.

That looks like an open crew to me! 😆
