Hourglass Quests

  • New Quests:
•Defend an ashen Lord- in defend an ashen lord u will have to defend an ashen lord for a certain amount of time, u will have to dive to this quest and defend it from gaurdians who raid or random pirates who turn up, there will be ai skeletons helping u too.

•Defend a fort- basically a skeleton fort accept u will be defending it instead of attacking it and u will have to defend it for a certain amount of time, and u will be protecting it from gaurdians or any pirates that show up, there will be ai skeletons helping u too.

These are basically like current quests we have but from the skeletons POV.

  • Wouldn't really call these 'hourglass quests'; They're more like additional reaper quests. But, I love the idea of doing events from the pov of the skeletons.

  • @xorzius

So, you prevent players from doing world events?

  • @europa4033 no no people can still do world events

  • The first one conflicts with the rules around diving now, which prevents you from getting attacked while near an island. Changing this will just open up the ability to beach ships on islands in Hourglass again.

The second one is going to be boring most of the time, where no one comes to attack the objective and you're basically waiting out a timer.

How am I to protect a skeleton fort if it's inactive? In order for players to know what world event is going on, there has to be a symbol in the sky showing them what's up and where, correct? This is what causes people to come over. If it's my job to protect the event/prevent players from attacking it, how are they supposed to do the world event?

"Oh look, it's an Ashen Winds event. Let's go over. Oh wait, there's a sloop there protecting the Ashen Lord."

  • defend it from gaurdians who raid or random pirates who turn up

History proven. Players do not like having other pirates attack them during PvP….

I think there being some type of hourglass related quest is a good idea. I’m not sure what those quest would be, or if your ideas are good candidates, but something HG related to do while sailing around with HG active. My crew will sometimes put up HG with the intent of playing normally, except of course with the likelihood of being invaded eventually. Other than it being fun, the incentive for doing this is defending your faction stash for extra rep. If you want to grind HG, this usually isnt going to be the fastest method, but it’s fun to mix it up and add some additional excitement to what you’re already doing.

Quest that might increase how much allegiance you get from successfully defending, and maybe even increase the allegiance you get from turning in a stash (with or without defending) could be interesting.

Something off the top of my head would be digging up specific items that might give increased allegiance gains upon defending/turn in. If you’re defeated by someone who dove to you (or otherwise), they could pick up this item for similar rewards. Though admittedly I don’t like digging things up, just food for thought.

Obviously they aren’t going to complain about being invaded if they knowingly put themselves in a position to be invaded while sailing to their quest. Plus, if you’re doing a quest, you’re not pvping until you’re invaded.

  • @xorzius I feel like you are trying to bring back stuff like Arena had with collecting chests and stuff.... All of which will be available in custom servers where you can build your own Arena. Drew stated this on the podcast months ago and I'm on insiders LOTS of testings going on with that stuff.

@Europa4033 is right though it will block others from participating in world events since this would be the one that is up. As well as if a normal PvE player does show up to it thinking it is a regular event and bam gets hit with HG players when they don't do HG. Now they are mad they got stuck in a fight with a HG player. HG is naval battles and the ones that decide to try to collect treasure from an island before getting invaded is probably very rare as it is. I'm playing HG to fight people not go start an event and defend an ashen lord or skeletons. If they tried to do that the HG community would not go for it at all. We finally got a lot of great changes we have been asking for and sorry this one is so off the mark. Maybe for Athena voyages or a new Reaper voyage but not for HG.
