Hide Gamertags From Me Should Apply In The Main Menu As Well

  • There have been some discussions recently about the issues a certain very large streamer has had with the game's lack of a proper streamer mode.

While I am not particularly a fan of this streamer at all, I find it absolutely bewildering that the "Hide gamertags from me" setting only applies in-game.

In the main menu and crew list screen (lobby?) you can still see the gamertags of you and your crew, fully exposed.

I know the random lore names are only applied once you join a server, so in the case of pre-game menus, it should use initialisations (similar to Discord's streamer mode).

This over-sight should be fixed as soon as possible, or that setting is practically useless.

  • @realstyli Rare had a real opportunity to go get a win... Instead, they failed royally in front of a big audience.

Eventually, their gamertags would have been discovered by stream snipers, but they didn't even get a chance.

    What an embarrassment.

I had heard he was trying again tonight, I was curious what was going to happen so tuned in hoping that the game would redeem itself.

I was immediately mortified that they resorted to getting in touch with an Alliance server (not the ideal way to play and these are often paid-for shady services). THEN I heard them say that a developer told them they didn't need to create new accounts... are they not even aware of the UID privacy issue?

But all this stems from gamertags leaking, and no streamer is perfect. They are going to show either the main menu or the crew screen at some point, and then it's over.

That's wild if that's the guidance that came from Rare. There's no way that they are that oblivious to how this happens.

Yeah, it really does suck. Flotsam, as an example, makes a habit of changing his gamertag regularly despite the associated fee for doing it.

Sadly, I doubt Rare is going to make any changes as a result of this.

Another mark missed. Another opportunity squandered.

    Big sadge.

  • Maybe streamers need to be smarter and use secondary accounts and start streams after they enter the games. Avoiding the main menu, I can never understand these modern gamers and streamers who do this.

It’s there own fault and need to learn from mistakes instead relying on games systems. Otherwise it won’t be the last game that they fail at

  • @sweetsandman

According to what they said on stream, there were supposedly "10 developers watching". If that is true, that must have been a tough watch. I know I was mortified watching it all play out.

Like I said, I'm not a fan of this streamer, it's not my cup of tea. But an audience that size is a big opportunity to revitalise the game. And it's just a massive shame it failed so much, needlessly.

I just really hope lessons are learned.

    What an L take.

Very much easier said than done... Especially for those streaming from console that don't have all the fancy overlays and transition screens and stuff.

Avoiding the main menu in a game that will crash/beard error you without warning is also a hilariously ineffective recommendation.

This isn't just about big streamers. This is just as much about the small channels just trying to have fun gaming.

  • There are several oversights related to all this. I will be careful of what I say as they locked all conversations on it last week but if recent events doesnt cause a change all hope is gone. Honestly I in better results from the steeamers the devs or microsoft

  • @venomous-sloth7

I wouldn't worry about that. This thread is purely to give feedback on how the streaming safety side of the game can be improved.

Whilst the catalyst was discussions around that particular high-profile incident, now incidents, this has been a problem for a long time. It's why I am not naming specific names, that's not the important part.

The UID privacy issue is one that should be looked at, but that will require Microsoft to take action. In the shorter term, and more in Rare's hands, is improving already existing features.
