Game is ''Dying'' ok sure, but does it matter that much?

  • A lot of talk lately, especially the big SoT Partners content creators the last couple of months has been on this subject.
It's not secret if we look at Steam the trend is clear The game has been suffering a steady decline with no hope in sight. And by end of March we can predict through the charts pattern that it will hit the high 4k player count. Yes steam is ONE out of many launchers for the game, but you can deduct that it is most certainty showing the same trends on other platforms.

You can also string out familiar patterns from Youtube and Twitch viewship/retention and compare to past performances, you get the undeniable gists of things.

But should it really matter that much realistically?

I'm not here to point fingers and anything or anyone, everyone has their own theory as to WHY the game has seen such decline, everything from community drama mishaps, to game changes, to false promises, The most recent being clowned on ''we missed the mark'' [x42 times] all points being made are true in their own sense.

Afterall not everyone quits over ONE shared thing, and one thing only. In other words: People quit over different reasonings, some not even game related at all.
Some may quit because their friend did, and that friend could of well quit because of something they didn't like from the game changes...

So why does it matter if the game is declining?

A genuine question to be anwsered.

Servers take in 5/6 ships with 24 players maximum (I really don't know the exact numbers anymore) BUT the point still stands, you Don't need 100 players for a server matchmaking to be made.
This game could function just fine if there was only 1,000 players left in say a particular region.

So may I ask to you, why does/would it matter that the game (If you believe in it) is dying?

  • In terms of the game being playable, it doesn't make any difference. You can play the game as-is with way fewer players than any player chart currently shows.

The only thing that "dying" will impact is how many resources get allocated for content development and other updates.

Rn it feels like said content development is so lack luster they might as well be in maintenance mode lol.
Cool a new devils roar voyage. Amazing! (Not really).

  • Game is ''Dying''

    drinks another topic.

Idk...the random charts I googled for Console and Steam show, Console players are much higher than Steam. Just shows to me, console players are more chill...since we dont have many cheaters to worry about, which is a factor to add. Since most Pc players are HG/PvP players only. But that is my two cents.

why does/would it matter that the game (If you believe in it) is dying?

Its a trend, Meme. Pops up ever so often, and since it started up by Streamers. It content. Bring in the views and maybe start something. Who to say.
Games die or come back. Look at GTA and RDR2.

When you're chronically online on these forumns, you are bound to find the same topic rehashed, especially concerning one subjcet matter (That being Sea of Thieve's/ A video game).

The charts for consoles are predictions and are not reliant one bit, but the point still stands, that even on console it's been showing a decline. Ask MixelPxl, he likes to brag on his stream that he was in touch with someone at RARE that showed him the numbers and it ain't look great on any platforms lol.
Also like stated, other metrics can coincide with all this, Pace22 used to average 2-3k viewers live, he barely has 200 right now as we speak lol. That's a 10x decrease in viewership.

One could argue, SoT just doesn't have the magic sauce like some old games that manage to retain and be revived.
Who was that one massive streamer that did a series of reviving old games? Jynxi or something, he recently did SoT 2 months ago, barely budged lol. Nobody cared enough.

  • Hmm, a 7 days old account with the word "ban" included in the gtag...

Sounds like a lot of sour grapes to me. Randos have predicted the end of SOT, day in day out and the game still persists 8 years later. These "doom prophets" of the "game is dying" are a dime a dozen. Stop listening to them, play for your own fun and you will enjoy the game better!

What does 'ban' in my GT have to do with anything mentioned here? The ''whatabout'ism'' here is on another level that you just did here lol.

Sure. But the stats don't lie. The quality of updates reflect it to.
I agree though, enjoy the decline while it's still here to enjoy! Because we may very well not have many years left on this game to play!

Sometimes Stats do...just because the AI says so, doesnt make it so.

What are you even on about? What AI?

  • @burnbacon

Also since you basically live on these forumns, you out of all people can confidently say there's less traffic on this site than in previous years correct? (less posts being made by different people and less engagement/upvotes per posts).

So why be in denial about facts?
