Regardless of the ship being difficult to sail (which would probably turn many away from it), there's still an imbalance with 5 players here. If a sloop is trying to sink it, it's going to have a difficult time with bilge, flex, and the 5th person bucketing and repairing. Or, 2 people can go board while helm, cannons, and bilge are perfectly fine.
Not only does the ship have to be balanced, the crew does too.
Safer Fleets are coming, and with a subscription, you'll be able to invite everyone to a sloop on your own private server if you wish.
I agree, last thing the game needs is a bigger ship.
7 years heading into 8 years and the average crew can't even sail a galleon properly to it's full potential.
The times we have seen that on all ship types is through the competitive community, which were shamed and died off from transmitting that knowledge to the broader player base over time. It's a double edged sword that this game is nearing a decade old and the average player base hasn't gotten any better at the game since launch lol. It keeps things ''fresh'' but it's also... Sad...
Ok a 5 man ship could be made where it's technically harder to manage than the galleon, that still doesn't suppress the fact that a solo sloop cannon still has to output a lot of cannonballs to threaten a sink for it just as it currently does towards a galleon.
A solo sloop Cannot sink a 4 man galleon crew that know their roles and are all good players without external help for the sloop. Such as a Smugglers keg.
