Solve diving with this new item "The Diving Bell"

  • Diving has been a hot issue in Sea of Thieves so I propose the following.

    The Diving Bell.

Not the historical kind but an actual bell that can only be available on Captain ships. The point of this bell is that once you ring it you can dive to your selected location. The con it has a 24 hour colldown before it can be used again. The only other way to reduce the cool down is by sailing (x amount of miles per hour) and/or doing specific voyages that most be purchased from someone may Larina, this voyages can reduce and or refresh The Diving Bell cooldown so it can be used again.

This would hopefully help making servers feel less empty and reduce the Diving spam.

Obviously this requires a full Diving rework but this is just my opinion.

  • So, it's like a limited one use bell for however long you make it to use diving voyages? Sounds like a good idea! The only issue I see is world event diving as that's quite good, wouldn't want to gut that.

Or just remove diving? The simple solution is to just remove it, the entire point of having a boat is to sail, so just sail to a different island.

  • @karminiumsot I am not a fan of diving but I see it has value so I am proposing a nerf ro not get rid of it completely. You only get one dive per captain ship and the cooldown is a deterrent to spot the spam.

  • @tintintheboy in this case it would apply the additional voyages I mention that have to be purchase like before they where free at the captains table. This whould ensure you can use diving again but not abuse it. It is so the seas feel less empty

Diving was introduced in season 8 as not only a way for players to be matched in the new hourglass, but was a mechanic extended to players looking to do voyages or tall tales as well. I remember testing it on Insiders, and initially, you could be doing a FoF and a ship would suddenly appear next to you. They listened to feedback saying that wouldn't be fair, and it was changed.

Players back then would often complain about how long it took as they sailed to their destinations, and diving solved that. Why they didn't analyze the effects it would have on the servers back then is beyond me, but it's too late to put the genie back in the bottle. Anything done to prevent players from diving now, would by met with backlash, and now players are once again, complaining about how long it takes to get to their destination. Not only did they spend time, money, and resources developing diving, it solves nothing (and wastes development money) if they now prevent players from using it. The only way they could do this is by incentivizing players to stay on servers. What that reward would be is beyond me, let alone open to abuse.

P.S. A 24-hr Diving Bell negates the fact that players still have the old-way of diving: using Tall Tale checkpoints.
