Dark Skies Curse change and suggestion

  • I recently read the post made about the absence of the Dark Skies Curse, and it's removal from planned updates due to player feedback about Emporium Curses, and have to ask... why exactly are we being punished for asking for content to be made available in the game outside of the Emporium, by having planned cosmetics removed, instead of restyled/refit to match non-Emporium content, and released that way?

You ask us to give you honest feedback about things, specifically what you should and shouldn't do, based on player preference. We say we don't like Curses being made and released in the Emporium, as they're normally badges of honor for tasks like Commendations or long grinds, like the Gold Curse and PvP Curses. Instead of taking this feedback, looking at how such a cosmetic could be added to the game in the same way others was, and allowing us to access the Curse that's been in the game since the Eclipse Set was added, but hasn't been available, you tell us you're outright throwing it out, as our feedback showed a disinterest in Emporium Curses? What sense does that make? We dislike the mode of it's release, not the content itself; we want it, just in a way that doesn't require us to open our wallets.

I have a suggestion for this:

The design of the Curse is very heavily based on the Eclipse set, but the style isn't. In fact, it looks alot like the red glow we find... on Reaper's Bones items. Specifically, the Runes found on ship parts, and the Jacket/Costume arm wraps. Though you, for reasons I cannot glean from any response I've read, removed the glow effect on the Runes for the Weapons, Equipment and Instruments, this would still be a perfect thing to let us complete the set for Reapers.

I offer the idea of changing the design of the curse to be an inverse of the Legendary Curse, made for the Reaper's Bones. The chest insignia could be altered to a large Reaper's Bones crest, while the arm designs could be changed to the Skeleton Runes for "Pirates For All Eternity". This would let us access a Curse you made, with very little change, as well as giving us even more customization options for one of the two main factions in the game. The unlock could either be some new Commendation, or part of the PvP Curse set, in the way that the Legendary Curse was made to be the reward for Level 105 for the Guardians.

Why block content that we want just because we want it to be released in a more fair way? Why not use this opportunity to make Curses and other cosmetics more Commendation oriented, which drives players to want to play the game more?

I'd love feedback on this, and to hear from everyone what they think of such a change, and their opinions on a shift away from the Emporium.

To be honest, the Dark Skies Curse is completely unappealing to me. The Ashen Curse kinda fills the role of an opposite Legendary Curse.

  • Players got to learn, you complain about something enough, your gonna loose it and never get it later. Had a cool curse, cry it was store bought.

But who to say it wont appear down the road? They already made the Doubloon store a thing.....maybe curses will follow? Who to say...

  • @burnbacon While I get the direction you're coming from, this is an abysmal opinion to have concerning player feedback; how is critiquing the method of it's acquisition relevant to the piece of content itself? The Curse looks wonderful, having to pay Ancient Coins, which for the main part are received through microtransactions, is the main issue. Why should we be punished for not wanting to open our wallets?

  • There was another curse apparently that has been postponed. Never heard of that one before.

  • I'm a bit late to this, but here me out on this. There is the weapon/ship sets with the same name of "Dark Skies" currently obtainable through commendations and bought with gold in the various stores. While the Dark Skies Curse had a red color scheme, could they not change it to match the purple aspects of the Dark Skies items, and then whenever they make a new Tale Tall for the story that revolves around the growing presence of the banished ancients, the Dark Skies curse can be added as the reward for completing all that Tale Tall's commendations, tying it to the lore of the banished ancients, similar to what they did with the Ashen Curse being tied to the Ashen Lords and the Gold Curse tied to the Gold Hoarder.
I feel like that would be a great way for them to still incorporate it into the game, in a way that the players would be more willing to accept, and using it to build out more story with other items sharing the "Dark Skies" name.
