Suggestion for PvE Pathways to Hourglass Cosmetics

Arena didn't worked for an entire other reason : queue time were too long or infinite...

'As we’ve shared before, only 2% of our players’ time is spent in The Arena on a consistent basis, and this has never really changed. We recognise that some criticism we might receive here is that we didn’t invest enough in The Arena to give it the best chance of success alongside the continued growth of Adventure. The reality is that as a new platform, The Arena regretfully never became popular enough to justify focusing our creative efforts there, beyond our initial efforts to refine the experience to appeal to a broader audience.....

.... Despite sharing a lot of the same mechanics as Adventure, it is an entirely different experience, and one that would have required a huge amount of mindshare and development effort to stand alongside it – and given the disparity in audience sizes, it just became impossible to justify.'

See, that's the problem we even have in adventure, if you don't play the way other people want you to play a SANDBOX game, you are gonna be trashtalked, even if the only thing you do is playing sword, and now you find that normal, you are just brainwashed.

Seems like you just want to live in a fantasy utopia. People have different opinions about things and will voice those opinions.

Double gunners get called sweaty try hards, sword lords get called noobs, ram stratters get called weirdos, naval players get called naval bots. It's just human nature, not something exclusive to a pirate game.

Arena was a way better mode despite its flaws, it just needed a few tweaks and it was perfect. people who only wants to 1v1 and wish nothing more are to be avoided.

Arena was a way more casual pvp mode that was a lot more fun for people not looking for skill based fights.

To have skill based fights you need to have a responsive game anyway, which isn't the case since 1.4.3 update. And anyway; sea of thieves has never been meant to be competitive, like, at all.

Thank you for confirming what i said (and what i already knew), only a small amount of time was spent on Arena because the mode just wasn't working, most of the time you simply couldn't get a match launched with galleon, and even sometimes with sloops it was either uneven with afk leaving and stuff like that, either not launching, and the few matches that launched you would always find people farming point with canonballs instead of playing the goal. Arena really just needed tweaks in term of gameplay, rewards and how matches launch, people would have played it if so.

  • @burnbacon dude... be fr. This is a sandbox game like you so often proclaim. Sandbox means not every player wants to play the game the same. They get different rewards for doing different things which they can show off to highlight specific achievements. Thats like one of the core gameplay loops of sea of thieves. If you democratize every reward then they lose that meaning, plus I don't even know how it would be feasible to transition all the cool cosmetics for pve into pvp. You do know that's what your advocating for here, right? You would have to make every other curse, weapon, ship and player cosmetic available through pvp to ensure players on the seas are "equal". Its an absurd take so don't pretend like suddenly pve players are oppressed just because they have to do something outside of their comfort zone.

  • @solobrig5954 sounds like it would just be better for a pvp mode to be integrated into the adventure sandbox environment, they should try that!

Don't be like that, there is nothing positive about the fact that HG is integrated into adventure mode.

If only people in HG would play way more the "defensive" option, i would agree it would bring something more to adventure, but nobody does that outside of exploiters.

So with the defensive mode not being used, what do we have left in adventure ?

    We have :

    • HG players complaining about being third partied.
    • Adventure players complaining about less "active adventure ship" in their servers because HG ships doesn't take part at all in adventure, they just take up slots for nothing before their next dive.

    Only negative points.

It's awful to imagine a pvp oriented mode would contribute in lowering the global experience in adventure by effectively reducing the number of active players on a server.

  • @solobrig5954 only exploiters? I’m pretty sure that @BurnBacon has said this is his preferred method to HG.

I know people that run it “defensive” to do it for the faction hail progression.

I’ve run it defensively as I sail for my distance travelled commendation.

  • @jon-sea-nah well then that would be very few people to do it, but it doesn't undermine the rest of the problems

  • @solobrig5954 only “real” exploit in defensive is hiding your ship in an area it’s incredibly hard to if not impossible to sink and for tdm. What other exploit?

I get not liking HG but to come on here and blast every segment of it and when you quote that only x does y but get upset when real people push back and say they don’t use it how you claim but an entirely legit way you say it’s the 1%

  • I completely understand if you don't want to do hourglass but want the curses, but this is essentially the same as if I were to say "I like the title 'Legendary Hunter of the Shrouded Ghost,' but I don't want to find five shrouded ghosts so instead I should be able to do some dig voyages to get the title."

You are missing the point, if people want to go defensive in HG fine, but given it's only a tiny portion of them it's problematic because everyone else who actually play HG by diving are causing adventure servers to be more empty than what they should be, and also we keep hearing people complaining getting 3rd partied, that's why HG should be separated from adventure, it would be win-win

  • @solobrig5954

I agree ADVENTURE diving needs to be eliminated in its current form. Someone gets spooked, just dive out of the server.

Bro the seas feel empty because…….. THEY ARE!

2 yrs ago the game had like avg 250 LFG posts, now it’s 50-80……. The game is in a pretty big slump right now. Barring a pirates of the Caribbean type update I don’t think we will see the numbers return to that anytime soon. If you aren’t grinding commendations the game doesn’t have much new stuff to offer.
    Rebranded Forts with more loot

It’s the king sending gold to the people so they don’t overthrow the king. What’s the COF commendation up to now 4,599 COF’s……… here take 3 COF’s…… please keep playing.

Blaming a mode that arguably brought back some of the best SOT players and caused more community engagement for those players that had been ostracized for a long time as the game nuked arena then did nothing for PvP players until HG. Quite a gap there.

I’m not a huge fan of 3rd party, I also don’t sink tall takers, and leave veil stones when stealing the Athena from the veil. BUUUUUUUUT that’s my morals and I don’t expect others to oblige. Some crew like the chaos of 3rd party.
