Hey!
I used to play SOT all the time and just recently came back to grind out all the new commendation! I play solo and just today I had an epic battle over a fort of fortune..the other crew and I went head to head..we both sunk but I stayed on the island. I finished the fort by myself...hid the chest of tributes..loaded all the loot in a separate location..etc! The other crew came back, thought the fort despawned because I moved everything and they left! I snagged a mermaid to grab my boat, ready to get the loot and BAM...server merge. Hours of fighting over this for everyone to lose it! Apologies for the story but I wanted to give context on where the suggestion is coming from! That being said I have a couple suggestions to hopefully help people in the future:
Suggestion 1 - Before a server merge is active, give a server warning that it will be shut down. That way those who have loot make sure it's on their boat before the merge happens, or they don't get on their boat right away lol I woulda swam or row boated the fortune chest if I knew the game was about to boot me.
Suggestion 2 - Loot in this game has player tags on them. That's how the game knows if you "stole" or "donate" something. When a server merge happens update any loot with your tag on it to move to the new server with you.
Suggestion 3 - When the server is shutting down and starts merging people. Allow players to "delay" the merge temporarily. So like in my case, I could have sailed the 2 islands over...got the loot..THEN merged instead of just losing everything
Suggestion 4 - Don't tie the merge to when you are on your boat. Allow it to move you and the island you are on also. I know that's likely more difficult to do but it would help protect the loot hidden during battles
I remember running into this issue like 5 years ago when I was playing, losing loot not to sinking or pirates but to the game merging me, I merged like 3 times just today!
Hopefully I spark something! Maybe not exactly my ideas but something close to protect loot! It's why we sail after all!
