As distinguished members of this forum, most of us understand that the Pirate Emporium is a necessary part of Sea of Thieves. As a live service game, one-time sales alone aren’t enough to keep the corporate overlords satisfied—and by extension, the studio’s lights on. A steady flow of income through things like microtransactions and subscriptions is the lifeblood of the modern gaming industry. And you know what? That’s perfectly fine. I enjoy supporting game companies by voting with my wallet to keep them in business. I am, in summary, the “target audience.”
Sea of Thieves isn't the only game I play, and I’m careful about where I spend my money. Right now, I’m not choosing Sea of Thieves. Why? Because nothing in the emporium catches my interest. So, Rare, if anyone on your emporium team is reading this, please consider these ideas that almost everyone would love to buy.
A Stool, Chair, and Captain's Chair Sit Emote Bundle
Ever find yourself wishing for a stool or chair to sit on, only to realize there’s none around? A solo slooper longing for a captain’s chair, friends gathering their own stools around a campfire, or two captains under parlay hashing out an important alliance—all scenarios that demand chairs, yet they’re nowhere in sight! Sure, the environment might provide a few stools, and the galleon does have one captain’s chair, but they’re items and rarely available when needed. Adding simple stool sit, chair sit, and captain’s chair sit emotes could greatly enhance roleplay.
New Shanties
This might be a bit tricky to implement, but it would be amazing. Being able to purchase shanties from the Pirate Emporium would be fantastic. Here's a quick list of shanties I’d definitely buy if they were available in the Emporium.
With Rare's 40th anniversary, why not bring some songs out of the vault?
- Banjo Kazooie - Main Title (COME ON RARE I BEG)
- Perfect Dark - Title Theme
As well as other songs already in the game, remade as shanties - Captains of Adventure
- For The Love of Adventure
And Imagine the Collabs! - He's A Pirate (The Best Pirate You've ever seen!)
- We Are! (this is the style and level in which a one-piece crossover could work without breaking the game's style completely)
Music Box Emotes
As an alternative to adding new shanties, how about emotes where the player pulls out a music box that plays a tune? It might be less immersive but would likely be easier to implement.
Ok, that's the main three things I'd know I'd buy if they were in the emporium. If anyone else has ideas for the emporium, make sure to leave them in the comments. (will update this post with new ideas occasionally)
Edit 1: add a "Trump Dance" Emote (different name of course, politics do not belong in SoT)
Completely unrelated to politics, the little dance is absolutely awesome, and I think it would make a great emote. I'm just using that placeholder name because there's really no better way to describe it. We definitely need more "eccentric" emotes like this to showcase different pirate personalities.
