Pop-Up Plunder Feedback (S17)

  • Community Weekend isn't over yet, but that's a wrap for this season's Pop-Up Plunder!

With the new Season Model come new changes to the system: This time, dates were previously announced, and so were starting islands. They were also spread more apart this time, with 6 instances in comparison to the 10-12 in the last 5 seasons. We also already know that the next Community Weekend will happen in Season 18 Act 1 (so November or December).

So how did you like the new approach?
How did you like the puzzles?
    Did you get anything good?
Did you feel like the loot was more sought after with this change?
Did the announced dates & islands lead to more player interactions?
If you have claimed Pop-Up Plunder before, did you encounter any new loot you haven't seen before? Like loot introduced in Season 15, 16 or 17?

As someone who has enjoyed Pop-Up Plunder since Season 9, I have some personal feedback as well, but I wanted to hear some voices from the community first before voicing my opinion.

  • I'm not really a big fan.

The first strike against Pop-Up Plunder, is that it NECESSITATES the creation of an account to even see the posts if you're on either Twitter/X or Facebook. (Thankfully, Bluesky doesn't require account creation to see posts AS OF NOW, so keep that in mind for the future as it might change). I'd much rather have access to this information directly from the devs, preferably on THIS website, instead of having to rely on 3rd parties for an event that literally takes place in-game.

The second strike for me is just participation time. My work schedule basically guarantees that I'll never really be able to do this event, and it's only up and running for an hour(?), if I recall. That seems pretty brutal and way too chaotic.

The third is really just the event itself. When I boot up Sea of Thieves, I mainly wanna focus on and play Sea of Thieves. I don't want to be meta-gaming. The things that are in the game should be interacted with, and discovered IN THE GAME. Another monitor should not be required. Your phone should not be required. Social Media accounts should NOT BE REQUIRED. When I'm in-game I should be getting exposure to 100% of the game. Pieces of the game should not be removed and specially relegated to boost engagement OUTSIDE OF THE GAME.

  • Never bothered with it since the first implementation. I HATE dealing with social networks while I'm playing.

  • I'll be honest they were too difficult for me so I end up waiting for someone to reveal the location and filter through the trolls trying to mislead you. Didnt see much interest from other ships on my servers. I left the two I found, loot was useless to me (although there's not much I need). Imagine someone pristine meg stuff as example would have been good.

Since you didn't list it: The information is also available on the SoT Discord. You still need an invite to see it, but it's more of a communication channel than social media.

I personally thought it's also the best platform if you want to take part in the riddle solving. On the other platforms, people usually just post the results, while on Discord you actually feel like seeing the process and sometimes even contribute.

If you just want the solution though, Twitter or Instagram are probably best, but also full of trolls. Bluesky unfortunately doesn't have enough people posting the solution. Now knowing some people count on that I might do it more in the future.

  • @drbensei You're right, I forgot about Discord, but since that also necessitates another account creation to access, the complaint remains the same. And also, as I said, you can't readily access Twitter's posts properly without account creation. This is the same for Instagram. but at least with Bluesky if I share the link you'll be able to see the whole post, no gimmicks or additional requirements on your part. Hopefully this doesn't change in the future, or they start posting here.

  • I found the puzzles a little too abstract for such a tight time limit. I tended to watch a streamer get the solve then hop severs to get as many digs as possible. I dug up quite a few over the weekend. I saw a few servers where someone else had dug up the loot, but I was left alone each time

The loot pool was mixed. I got one CoF out of it, which was nice. The container chest with 2 low tier athena items not so much. I also got a crate of rare fish which would have been good if I wasn't already legendary hunter. So maybe the loot pool needs to adjusted a bit.
