Season 17 is a Good Addition

  • I'm not sure why so many people dislike this season, but as a PvE focused player, I think it's great!
I wasn't sure how the smuggling would be implemented, but I have to say I've been having fun with it. I'm enjoying grabbing the stuff and avoiding the ships (NPCs and sometimes players) patrolling the route. It fits in well with how I like to play the game. I also like the black powder kegs. Who doesn't like big booms? As a sometimes solo player, they have definitely helped even the odds when I get attacked by ships with more people. If nothing else, I can blow us all up. Maybe that's why some people don't like it? All in all, fun times!

There are a few things I might have wanted to employ differently:
Merchant ships NPCs trying to stop you from smuggling instead of skelly ships
If you smuggle a lot, the merchants my not want to do business with you, but that's ok because there is a shady smuggler in the tavern who will sell you what you need that the merchants won't.
Paintings get damaged if they get wet.
A smuggler Tall Tale would be awesome!
However, as a whole, I think it is one of my favorite updates, and I look forward to seeing the rest of it!

It's awesome you're having fun. Stay in that space and keep doing what you're doing. Boarding an unsuspecting brig or galleon while holding this new keg is glorious indeed!

  • It's not the best of the seasons so far and yet it's not the worst. It gave players something to do and we got the Smugglers, although we lost the Bilge Rats.

All in all is not that bad and I think most of the complaints come from burnt out players.

  • If players don't like this season, it's mainly because of its completely recycled content. Everything in this season is just recycled, and that's why we don't like it.
However, there are some good things:

    • Treasures are easily found almost everywhere
    • Treasures are worth their weight in gold, which is nice.
    • Recommendations are easy to achieve (maybe a little too easy???)

As for the rest, regarding travel, boom booms, etc., yes, it's recycling past content.
Let's hope Season 18 is better.

  • If you're new, every update is likely to be fun. The reality is this content is stuff added years ago just reskinned and added some new NPCs. It has annoyingly increased PvE spawn rate on islands to hinder your delivery. It has increase spawn rate of skeleton ships on you. All of which have kegs on them which can potentially blow up in close proximity to you sinking you along with them.... If you manage to sink the ship close to you then you need to run away from the loot spawn. I imagine these kegs also detonate once they touch the hull of the ship so them spawning under you and floating up would be an instant sink. Skeleton ships aren't supposed to spawn when a skeleton fleet is up. So these useless smuggler ships can still bug you in what used to be a brief break from skeleton ship spawns.

The loot from skeleton ships is mostly this new smugglers loot. Which thankfully they made the commendations quick on them but it also makes the content pointless quicker... However I would have ignored the content altogether if it was as grindy as some of the past things have been.

Siren Skulls do not sink. So now we have random skulls floating all over the seas because they can't be handed in at reapers and no ones doing smugglers. I sunk about 30 skeleton ships today and let the majority of the loot sink. Paintings don't even increase emissary grade unlike other treasures.

If you are someone who has been playing SoT for years now this is an awful update. For new players this game just has loads of content and they keep adding more. Unfortunately there's probably nothing they can add for day1 players that will make us fall in love with the game again. I took a year break when seasons were added because I was playing 4 other games that also had seasons and seasonal models can be ridiculous when they are all about FOMO. We had a brief period where the FOMO was cut back but seems this seasons bringing it back. These days when I play I just get depressed. I love the art style, I love the world. I hate that I can't play the way I want to play when I want to play. I hate feeling a time pressure to get stuff done and like next month bringing back what is basically an adventure in the form of a new type of fort battle. Think this might be a good season to call it quits. Starting to feel like World of Warcraft was. The fun is gone. The devs have lost the passion for the project and just phoning in the updates. Heck I have done the twitch drops and It never awards me the renown. This time just like last time it didn't give me my voyage of luck. Support says they see it as claimed butt hey can't determine if it was actually given in game all they can tell is I claimed the drop. I just did a world event.. I didn't get this figure head. Why? Is it not in the g ame yet? There's not event box saying "completed 1 world event" all it shows is the community goal.
