    Nothing is wrong its true that is it just a sound. But for some players it is very Import. We can easy differentiate if the shot comes from a dobble barrel or nomal pistol.

  • @hiradc Just like adventures at sea, it seems like a change that was done for the sake of being done with no actual purpose. Seemed like busywork to justify someone having a job.

  • This feels like someone in the audio team really wanted a more realistic sound for the flintlock.

    One of the first things I was taught when I started doing sound design in post production (decades ago, now) was that you design to expectations, not realism... unless it's a documentary or something that really requires authenticity. Yes, you end up with a bunch of anachronisms and tropes - like the red-tailed hawk screech being used for eagles, or common loons in every scary wilderness scene. Ironically, sometimes being authentic can break immersion for some.

    Sea of Thieves has a ton of inaccuracies (like shanties that wouldn't have been composed until centuries later) so I don't see why they would push for authenticity in this aspect.

    The new sound has more of a deep punch and body, but the old sound was snappy and cut through better, in my opinion. The pistol isn't that strong a weapon but the new sound gives that impression, so that may be why players accustomed to other games think it sounds wrong.

  • I don’t see a problem, i find the sound nice and crispy and tasty for my ears.

    And plus like @BurnBacon said its just sound so its not gonna give an advantage or disadvantage.

    The only change to the pistol other than the sound is the bullet spread when hip firing which is not very good for me, not sure about everyone else but i don’t like the bullet spread.

  • I personally like new sound more, but still both new and an old one are way too far from how real flintlock should sound.
    Same goes for Eye Of Reach, for some reason it sounds almost like a modern sniper rifle, instead of how musket sound like. Its gotta be "click" and "pooof"

    Agreed,

    A pistol isn't a revolver and a revolver isn't a pistole, that makes a difference and it can break immersion.
    This isn't a cowboy game, it's a pirate game isn't ?

    And as practical as it can be, whether it's a pistol or a double barrel pistol, it makes no difference you see it to the damages you take
    (or should we change the sound of the eye of reach as well to make sure we know the difference ?)
