What is the reason for the discrimination against users on other platforms?

  • To what extent do you agree with such restrictions and the discrimination against players on other platforms who own items they cannot use?

As your Sea of Thieves account can now be used on multiple platforms, you may notice that some items will show on one platform while not another. This is due to certain items now being platform exclusive.

For further information, details of which items can be used on the different platforms are listed below.

Items which can only be used on the Xbox Console, Microsoft Store / Game Pass, Steam and Battle.Net versions:

    Ebon Rapier
    Duke Set
    Regal Duke Set
    Black Dog Set
    Sails of Fabled Feuds
    Sails of Binding Bounty
    Sails of Heroes' Horizon
    Sails of Demonic Devotion
    Sails of Warriors Will
    Cobalt Kestrel Weapon Set
    Misted Sails of Woven Wonder
    "Rare Ruby" Emote
    Rare Ruby Hat
Items which can only be used on the PlayStation 5 version:

    Ruby Viper Weapon Set
    Dauntless Adventurer Sails
    Dauntless Adventurer Title
    Scarlet Storm Parakeet

  • I don’t agree with such restrictions. It’s unfair to players on other platforms who have the items but can’t use them. Everyone should have equal access to the items they’ve earned or purchased, regardless of the platform they play on

  • Sony wanted exclusive cosmetics that can only be used on Playstation 5 and in exchange Microsoft decided to make some of their cosmetics exclusive as well.

Theres nothing Rare can do about it.
But i agree, its silly to have exclusives like that.

  • @dermasterbob It's one thing to make sails exclusive, but emotions — and on the 40th anniversary, no less — I think that's just cringe

  • @valdes191
You're right, but i think its out of rares controll.
Microsoft propably wanted perks for their programm.

  • Platform exclusives didn't exist until Sony entered the picture. Make of that what you will.

  • I was expecting much more discrimination like better servers or supports. But it just items…
Kids will throw out any word to make it a disaster now days.

I ask the same about video games. Who does PS get this one game while Xbox doesn’t? Or steam
Players can have this game but console can not.

    Exclusive games. Same with SoT
All SOT are the same but you got to have some different ways to say “welcome aboard” here’s an item.

If only there was some variable here that clued you into the most likely reason for this. Maybe it's Sony who you need to talk to about it?

  • From the title I thought I was getting called out for running in circles around low sensitivity controller players.

  • Discrimination is a stretch. Legal issues and platforms being silly wanting exclusivity (PlayStation).

  • @tesiccl Take a look at the list of exclusive items for Xbox/PC and the list for PS5 — Sony won’t make a single exclusive item anymore, I’m sure of it. Meanwhile, Xbox keeps neglecting new players on PS5.

  • I think the restrictions are silly, honestly. Especially the Black Dog stuff. Anyone who preordered the original game, should be able to use their content across all platforms.

I somewhat can see why some cosmetics are limited to the console releases (namely ps5), but even then I can't say I agree 100%

  • Some of them make sense but most do not. Especially the anniversary emote and hat. Is the Rare logo illegal on playstation because M$ owns it?

Probably. They don't want to advertise other platforms when playing on PS, so anything branded with a non-Sony entity or that comes from ordering non-Sony hardware (like XBox controllers or pre-orders for Battle.net) is probably going to get blocked.

  • @d3adst1ck It was a joke, the Rare logo is on the screen every time you boot up the game.

  • This game is ruined by the mammon of money and the attempt to milk all players for money across all platforms.

    1- Rare is a business.
2- Their goal, is to make profit. Same for every business in the world. Welcome to Real Life.
3- Before you say this game is ruined by their attempt to milk all players for money across all platforms, you should know that Sea of Thieves doesn't charge a monthly sub, nor do they charge money for new seasons. Blizzard was purchased by Microsoft for $69 billion dollars. Blizzard not only charges a monthly sub, but you must pay for their new season ("expansion") updates as well. If you don't purchase the new season, you don't get to experience or set foot in the new zone/area/content. It's also ripe with cheaters and bots who farm gold for 8+hours or who charge players real money for raid runs (several cheaters were able to get you exactly what you wanted from any dungeon/raid). The game developers also create mounts/pets you can get nowhere else (some with unique abilities), and sell them on their store for $25 (the brutosaur was reskinned and sold for $100-limited time only).

I hope this small example has shown you how extremely mild/tame Rare is, compared to other gaming companies.
