Cheater issues

  • The Support response that I received told me to instead post my message in here, so here it is:

I'd like to know if the following idea has been considered. Easy Anti-Cheat apparently isn't nearly effective enough to mention. So, how about this:

While in a server, a player contacts a cheater (or whomever, could simply be someone they don't like, but a cheater in this hypothetical). The player hits ESC and finds an option somewhere in the menu for blocking players, and enters the cheater's gamertag. From the player's server session end, the player cannot connect to a server to which the cheater is already connected, and the cheater cannot connect to a server to which the player is connected. This blocking tool would also have an option to remove a gamertag from the 'blocked' list, in case any blocking decisions change.

This tool would do three things:

A: block a specific player (cheater) from the possibility of engaging with the blocker.

2: inevitably force other players to contact the cheater more frequently as more players' 'blocked' lists include the cheater's gamertag, logarithmically decreasing the chances of the cheater finding servers on which to cheat and exponentially increasing players' appreciation of less cheaters ("Easy Anti-Cheat must be working, now," they would exclaim excitedly, probably).

C: it would build SoT a list of gamertags that have been blocked by [insert high number here] players, which could be an indication of cheater activity, possibly urging some action to be taken.

If you ask Grok about the cheating problem in SoT, it indicates a very bad outlook on EAC. I quit playing SoT years ago for a few reasons, not the least of which was the cheater epidemic. I recently logged back in because I want to get back into playing it. It's a beautiful game, and I want to get into Hourglass matches. But I'm not going to bother trying to do anything but sail around and play my Obsidian or TSD banjo, if all of the information I see and what I experience in-game is being auto-targeted by cheaters' Eyes of Reach and Flintlocks while every cannonball they fire lands artificially in the exact same spot on my cannon, mast and wheel. If EAC isnt doing anything, you need to implement a new tool. This idea could be a very strong band-aid until you get an anti-cheat that works.

Has an idea like the one that I detailed here ever been considered?

  • So you want a feature where everyone can enter any gamertag (cheater or not) and will never get a server with those players again.

Now people make lists of others to block, players that just attack others and sink them as intended, so they can have PvE servers.

This would not only obliterate the core gameplay of this game, in addition you're essentially asking rare to take action against people, because they are on a block list without any proof.
Thats optional of course, but if it worked that way players would spam block people to get them banned.

This feature by itsself has the power to kill the game, because many players wont use it as intended.

  • Would not work as cheaters make new accounts every couple days. I've ran into the same cheater 10+ times on sloop and hes almost always on a different account cause his others got banned. Also, as you said, this would allow players to simple block those who they dont like. Which would be harmful for a lot of reasons as the other guy mentioned

  • That concept of resulting in PvE servers is accurate. I apologize for the post. I forgot that was a thing that people do. Now I remember all those Discord alliance servers exist. Sorry. I haven't been on SoT in a long time.

  • Hold on, you say cheaters make new accounts every couple days. SoT isn't free-to-play now, is it?

  • If you believe a player has been toxic in the game or suspect foul-play, you can report them to Xbox Live here. You can also submit a support ticket via Rare Player Support. As this is a matter for Support and not the Forums, I'll be dropping anchor here.
