@rare-jumbie said in Gold and Glory sucks for Hourglass:
First HG (solo) game of the day opponent:
Guardian of Fortune with white sails and a three streak. Opponent is full sail and blasting off trying to hit me with EoR and pistol midair. After a few minutes of this, I demast him and he then proceeds to hit most of his shots at my mast and hull while I'm circling - we're now both demasted. Opponent wins with no suspect gameplay otherwise. He Rolls on Deck Laughing when he wins and his name is hidden from the chat. I check recent players on XBL and his only game is Sea of Thieves with 2 days since 2024 with You gotta fight as a day 1 achievement.
Wow.
It sounds like you’re implying that he was cheating. Unfortunately, Gold and Glory weekends are not required in order to find cheaters in SoT, particularly HG.
I like Gold and Glory because it brings in players who don’t otherwise frequent HG. There are a few levels of Hg participation that I can think of (based on NA)
-
Normal weekdays. You’ll mostly run into opponents who are HG frequenters. They don’t wait around for the weekends or Gold and Glory, 7pm on Wednesday is fine with them. These players are typically at least better than average since HG is their jam, not just a method of obtaining a curse.
-
Normal weekends. There’s a bit more variety in the queue. You’re more likely to see a loss farmer or two, swabbies are more common, and you might even run into a streamer.
-
Gold and Glory. There are many players who only do HG during Gold and Glory. They probably just want the curses and don’t have as much interest in regularly queueing HG. This brings much more variety to the matchmaking. In addition to these people, all of the regulars, streamers, and beyond are queuing as well.
If you want a 4 streak, it usually becomes easier as you go down the above list. Unfortunately cheaters are found in all of them, and while there surely are more during Gold and Glory, there’s also more of everyone else. Fortunately I haven’t encountered any during my Friday or Saturday sessions, but we’ll see what today brings.
