Concept:
Introduce a new equipment item: the Cursed Captain’s Painting Frame. This mystical frame allows pirates to capture painted images of their adventures and display them permanently aboard their ship.
How It Works:
- The frame functions like other tools (e.g., tankard or spyglass) and can be equipped from the inventory.
- When used, it "paints" a snapshot of whatever it’s facing — players, scenery, ship interiors, or even key NPCs.
- The painting becomes a physical in-game item that can be carried, stored, or displayed.
Sealing and Displaying Paintings:
- Players can spend gold to seal a painting.
- Sealed paintings can be hung inside the player’s ship, surviving between sessions.
- Until sealed, paintings can be stolen by other players if your ship is boarded or sunk.
- Players could hand in stolen paintings themselves, either for commendations or simply because they like the painting.
- If the painting includes players, walking up to it shows the names of all pirates captured.
- If players captaining a ship deliver unsealed paintings to a Shipwright, they must pay a fee starting at 250 gold per painting, with the cost increasing based on how many paintings they already own.
Commendations and NPC Targets:
New commendations could challenge players to capture paintings of key NPCs across the Sea of Thieves, such as:
- The Gold Hoarder
- The Pirate Lord
- Belle
- Flameheart
- Jack Sparrow (Tall Tales)
These objectives encourage players to revisit older Tall Tales and islands they might have ignored for years.
Each unique NPC captured could unlock themed frame cosmetics, giving both visual flair and a sense of achievement.
Frame Cosmetics System:
Whatever frame you have equipped when you take a painting is what appears around that painting permanently.
Players can unlock or purchase frame styles, including:
- Barnacled, Ghostly, Gold-Trimmed, Tattered, Map-Stitched, or Legendary frames.
- Some styles earned via commendations, others from the Pirate Emporium.
Why It Fits Sea of Thieves:
- Enhances storytelling, roleplay, and long-term ship customization.
- Promotes exploration and gives players new reasons to revisit classic content.
- Builds a visual history of your crew’s journey.
- Blends well with the game’s supernatural and treasure-hunting themes.
Edit: I did not know Paintings that can be found and sold was being added to the game before posting this idea.
