3rd Party in Hourglass

  • We need some kind of a seperate arena for hourglass because 3rd Party shouldnt be possible in my opinion. Mabye if ships could drive out of the arena but no one else can enter it, that would be a measure.

  • Take a seat around the campfire, allow me to tell you a tale of days gone by.

We used to have a separate pvp only mode of arena, this was discontinued due to low engagement and disproportionate dev resource needed to maintain and update alongside the main game. So a main lesson learned and applied was for hourglass to be part of adventure so the same issue couldn't occur.
So yes third party sucks but its unlikely to be hard coded and separately instanced. On the other side sometimes its ignorant newbies who see a fight and come to join in not realising. Perhaps something to make it more blatant.

  • Hourglass is used to make it easier to find PVP.

It's not meant to be a closed fair fight. Rare isn't going to allocate separate servers for this - based on their experience with Arena.
    See this: https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/145614/closing-the-arena

Anyway, more ships engaging in battle at the same time should make it more challenging and fun. More complex player interactions than the plain and simple 1 ship vs 1 ship.

You should either have a truce with your opponent to fight the 3rd party, or influence the 3rd party to help you win, or sink them all.

I've been the 3rd party quite often. One of the first times: an hourglass sloop had denied my request for alliance, and sunk my ship. "Sea of Thieves, not Sea of Friends", they said. So, when they were invaded, I allied with their opponent, and helped to sink our common enemy. My allies took their flag and supplies, and gave me their CoF and Reaper chest. https://youtu.be/nhywop1t60M

I've also been 3rd partied by others. 1 ship vs. 2-4 ships is a bit of a challenge. Sometimes, we do ok. Sometimes, we sink. It's fine.

  • Who put pvp in my pvp?
    Like, how dare?!

  • Just make eny ship inside pvp circle sunken worth alligance of 1 win.

Get third partied and manage to be last ship standing? You should get 2 wins for that.

  • It's an open-world PvPvE sandbox, so why shouldn't third-party interference be allowed?
Sometimes you get third-parties that sit and wait for whoever wins. Other times, they just rush in and attack both. That’s the game.

  • If you don’t want pvp in a pvp seeking tool. Don’t use it.

  • @generalgoofx um

  • Since HG takes place in Adventure instead of on a private server like Arena used to be, it means you have the risk of getting 3rd partied. The devs realized this, and were perfectly fine with it happening. I can tell you it doesn't happen very often.

  • @generalgoofx

They say it’s meant to be an open world thing, but we all know they think it’s annoying to have an intrusion too.

  • Hourglass was designed from the very beginning to take place in the regular world, and 3rd partying was always part of the design. In the Season 8 SoT TV livestream they specifically mention that 3rd partying is part of the game design and is even encouraged. The devs will not make a safeguard for it, since it's a core part of hourglasses design.

  • I get 3rd partied by more megalodons than ships, and as a guardian fan if I see 2 ships in an hg battle and one of them is athena I'm 100% going to help them sink the reaper and I personally like this and usually as the athena I get reapers coming to help my enemy, don't think I've ever had anyone come help me in an hg battle but despite the odd ship coming to help my enemy I like how it is, I think 3rd parties are good too when you get in an hg battle and someone is just running for hours then eventually a faster ship comes and gets them or even puts me out of my misery

  • @bumpersum967441 I was just about to say the hardest I’ve ever been “Rared” was before surfacing in my hg match, I had taken 30 damage to ocean crawlers on my ship, and then before I could kill them, I got balled by a island skelly cannon. I tried to play but I had the Meg aggroing me and it felt like the server wanted me to lose. The ocean crawlers made that match unplayable so I scuttled bc it was my first game on but still I had really good supplies :((

  • @buckeymb Exactly, I have spawned into 2 fire megs in hourglass one of them hit me as soon as I broke the surface probably my quickest loss yet. I thought it was great though and the next time it happened I knew I needed to run away and I did make it to an island then the Meg turned on the other guy! Maybe they just need to balance the Meg AI so they don't just pick a winner and attack all nearby ships

  • I would rather get 3rdpartied by players than by world events. Having a meg and a skel galleon on you in an HG match is beyond annoying.
