Add the Man o War.

  • Before we get started, I'm aware the Man o War is already in the game as "The Burning Blade." But that's not where it should stop. With the addition of Guilds, there should be a Guild Flagship and what better than the Man o War? Since the Burning Blade is already in the game, aside from a few minor tweaks, the only hurdle for making it readily available to sail it as a Guild would be making it customizable and adding a price to purchase a Guild flagship. And, I think setting sail with the flagship would work great for a GvG mode when doing the pvp dive. Which would work great with gaining Guild Rep as well as allowing for a Crew limit increase. Maybe making the crew size for the Man o War 4-5.

  • The BB is not a Man O War, it's a galleon but slightly taller and with one extra set of cannons. A true man O war would be too powerful.

  • @potatosord While I agree that a TRUE Man O War ship would be much too powerful in SoT. The Burning Blade, while technically a bigger Galleon, is considered a Man O War by SoT Standards. When you google "What kind of ship is The Burning Blade?" it will say it's a Man O War. I don't want a TRUE Man O War. I want a Guild Flagship much like The Burning Blade, but customizable. Even Emissary Flagships modeled after The Burning Blade would be nice to have after you reach a certain level of Rep with said Emissary. For more balancing, they could add an NPC (Scaled to active crew slots) crew that you have to restock with Gold at an outpost. It'd give us something more to spend all that Gold on.

  • @ufavgaming Locking anything that gives players a distinct advantage behind levels or progression is against the core ideals of this game. The only things you unlock are cosmetics and voyages, but never anything that gives a real advantage.

  • @potatosord That's actually fair. I wasn't thinking about it that way. So, Allow Flagship for Guilds and Emissary and when you want to sail an Emissary Flagship it scuttles your old ship just like the Burning Blade mechanic? Setting Sail with Emissary Flagship being completely optional obviously. Cause if it's readily available to everyone, why not use it?

  • Would 'guild vs. guild' award hourglass rep? You describe the pvp match kinda like how arena was, which we know is not coming back. Especially since your idea would have to take place on a seperate server, I doubt they'd go for this at all.

  • @europa4033 Honestly I was hoping that GvG would be its own thing. But the @PotatoSord put it yesterday, having the ship available to all, you could just take a Man O War out and dive with the hourglass like the other ships. My hope for GvG is that it increases Guild Rep faster.

  • I five man ship would be cool BUT:

Balance issues vs the other ships. For starters speed. Each ship has one area its good at. Cross wind vs full vis into the wind etc. So where would this one fit.

    Server size limits for preformance.

So i do not see it coming anytime soon unless there is some sort of guild war mode. This would be similar to scrims where a guild can challenge another to a fight in a much smaller game world with zero loot.

Either ship v ship or ships vs fort/ships. For the fort option Where the defending guild has a fort they have to repair. In this instance having a 5 player ship would not matter as far as balance for speed etc.

  • @ufavgaming
That would be a nice idea but take in The fact When Pirates Life Was released that The Black Pearl And the Flying Dutchman To be Man o Wars Even though They are Frigate Class I would consider them To be A prime example Of what rare can actually do, now The Burning Blade Design was a Masterpiece I feel like there could be a few more things that Can be added When Rare has the time.

  • @miserenz I'd love to see an option to take over forts after completing them. Much like taking over a camp in Fallout76. And have it be used as a respawn point if sunk. But to answer your question of where the Man o War would fit when it comes to speed, it has all the same stats as the BB, but it's now a flagship that players can just set sail in.

  • @mace-the-ace584 I haven't done much of the Tall Tales so I don't have much info for The Black Pearl or Flying Dutchman. But I do agree that The Burning Blade is a masterpiece. That's why I feel it shouldn't be confined to just being a mobile world event and I'd love to see what more Rare could do with something like that.

  • @ufavgaming
If you watch the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, you would Understand how The ships were presented

  • I know a lot of people want bigger/different types of ships. Heck, they even recognised that and said something about it in the most recent community direct, but in my personal opinion, I really don't like the ideas of having bigger ships. I'm usually quiet open minded when it comes to some of the ideas, but this is one I've never really settled too much on.
