Merfolk should flip your ship if it gets stuck upside down

  • I got hit by an ancient meg barnacled dread when I encountered it and fought it, my ship got stuck upside down. I think that instead of my ship having to respawn I would like a way to flip my ship back around or have the merfolk tip the ship back around. I know this behaviour was looked into and it doesn't happen as much but it would help a lot if this assistance could be given.

  • Yeah this happened to us last night, can happen with both new megs.

I was miles away flying in the sky, one player died and the remaining knocked off the boat. Our boat sank.

Sent video to devs in a report also. Boats in game just should not flip.

  • Is a bug, so creating it a feature wouldn't make any sense.
There are only a few scenearios in which the ship gets upside down. Creating a whole mechanic for those particular case is a waste of time in terms of game's developement.

Happened to us last night too lol. Meg flipped our ship upside down, and just slightly wiggled, unable to right itself. Meg chomped it, there was nothing we could do. We were lucky we had a storage crate and a rowboat!

  • You can use blunderbombs on the side of the ship to make it start tilt a direction and eventually flip back into place but it shouldn't be able to happen at all.

It's a bit hard when your flying in the sky for 5 minutes or thrown a mile away from the boat, or dead.

  • It sucks when it happens, but also I confess I kinda missed it when it stopped for years. Some of best memories are of megs humping my gally until it flipped upside down and we're sailing underwater. Or chasing a ship and a meg launched them into space and I'm sailing after to try and find the loot where they sink (pre birds).
Some bugs are endearing, skelly ships using rocks as launch pads etc. Obviously don't want it happening all the time, but I definitely don't mind the odd kickflip

  • @unblinkingmass7 i just wanna put it here, i have had this happen a few times on a sloop and was able to get it turned right side up again all of the instances by:

    • turning the wheel fully to one side
    • dropping sail fully

By the ship going in a big circle it is pretty certain to get a wind boost which then gives angular momentum to the ship that can put it right side up again

It should be noted that when i fight any of the megs i have my sails fully raised and just turn in the spot, in any other configuration it is probably impossible to swim fast enough to get to the wheel and sail interaction points if it is flipped

  • Just grabbing the wheel has worked for me every time (after I figured out interacting with something will flip it)

Meg hitting it again flips it too.

but yeah there should be some sort of ship check to make sure it's not upside down lol.
