The circle in hourglass should be changed to make it so that runners are also accounted for, and that matches dont drag on for too long. The circle should periodically shrink after certain time slots, to force the oppositions to actually get within naval range
HG Circle
that matches dont drag on for too long.
Heaven forbid a Pvp fight lasts too long xD
The circle should periodically shrink after certain time slots
Questions:
- How much does it shrink. (how small should it go?)
- What happens when the circle shrinks and say, there an island that is now dividing the two ships from reaching each other, unless you wanna risk leaving outside the circle just to cross.
- How fast would the circle shrink?
- Should the outer ring cause more damage when a ship passes outside?
@burnbacon This is a modified version of something I said a while ago but it holds up well enough.
Hourglass is broken up into 3 phases. Phase 1 is the first 10 minutes of the fight and plays like normal. Phase 2 shrinks the circle significantly (over like 2 minutes), forcing a 1 broad scenario where you don't have room to turn out and run away for full rep. The actual size could be like a 1 radius circle (so 3 radius in reality). This would occur for the 10 to 20 minute mark. Phase 3 is the last phase, the zone shrinks completely over the span of like 2 minutes and you are forced to play exclusively in the 2 radius "danger zone" (where your screen starts to go gray.
Based on what we've seen with LoT just phase 2 would prolly end a match within those 10 minutes, and phase 3 would easily end a match for pretty mediocre players. The point is that it slowly makes mistakes more and more impactful, until the end where you need to be playing effectively perfectly or else you will just sail out/sink to pressure. Also just make it so there's no zones where an island would be in the way. That's easy.
i hate the circle idea all together.. it only encourages people sailing you out of bounds instead of sinking you.
which is lame! imo, If you win by ur opponent going out of bounds = Should only get Half Rep. But thats besides the point..Not much can be done to fix the match length of 2 competent solo sloopers.
-a Timer & scoring system could work (similar to Arena) Highest score at timers end wins..
but cus HG is in adventure mode.. it'd just be weird & likely over complicated.@li-jratt-li hourglass meta is so bad in general, I'll make a separate post going over everything that makes HG literally the worst mode of all time, I don't wanna flood this post with it

Match ends after timer and the two ships remain a float.
Scoring: Judged by what? Cannons fired, Hits? If you use either of these, all you got to do is get one shot off, hit and run...wait out the clock. Then, what happens? Loser ship auto sinks?

yeah, players over think how HG is suppose to used and create these big issues when there isn't none.
No matter what. There will always be, Runners, Chasers, Sweats and the Normal players. (normal being those who just enjoy playing)Shrinking Circle wont fix anything. Just makes it worse and many wont play Hourglass and just go back to, Sailing around normally. Finding ships docked and sinking those. Why must the chasers be given a handicap to fight runners? Figure out a better tactic, plan better, fight using the sea itself....Mistakes happen

Then, what happens? Loser ship auto sinks?"Dont know.. didnt think that far ahead.. But, Yeah.. that or you just auto dip under & pop up else where.. i dunno.. That'd be on rare to figure out should they ever decide to do a scoring system.
Which is why i went on to say that it would be complicated due to being in Adventure mode. Though i wouldnt want it anywhere else, i love the fact a 3rd party or PvE keeps things fresh.
I dont even mind a long fight.. just suggesting a possible solution.. its just the sailing out of bounds for the win that chaps my azs.@li-jratt-li said in HG Circle:

Hourglass would be a nightmare at that point where the goal isn't PvP anymore, but running. Crews would be incredibly frustrated, and the forums would erupt.
