THIEVES HAVEN

  • Bring back the Athenas Run of Thieves Haven, it was such a good voyage and everyone loved it, you dont have to make it thieves haven necessarily, but that was one of eveyones favorite things back in 2018-2019, you should either bring it back to the game or add in some new athena quests, there arent enough available

  • This is factually untrue. Absolutely nobody liked it. The reason why everyone used to do it is because there was no alternative to levelling up quicker before the Veil voyage was introduced.

The whole reason why Rare removed it is because player usage dipped to nearly zero post-Legend of the Veil because it was a grindy, repetitive, boring slog that was not terribly rewarding unless you really liked mermaid gems.

We are well rid of it.

I liked them - to be honest not during doing the commendations - and someone blew up the keg I needed and then it took several tries to get one with a keg again ... but in the overall time of their existence - yes.

The reason why everyone used to do it is because there was no alternative to levelling up quicker before the Veil voyage was introduced.

Always doing the miost productive or efficient method/voyage gets boring.

AFAIK Rare never gacve numbers, so the "dropped to nearly zero" is not a fact; obviously with more methods to get certain things its usage will have dropped.

We are well rid of it.

No, we are not. If you don't like them, you don't need to do them, why deprive others of a chance of diversity in their voyage choice ?

  • @lem0n-curry

I didn't deprive anyone of anything, skippy. Rare did. And the reason they did was because not enough players were doing it any more. You can nitpick what "facts" are what all you want, but player usage of the voyage dropped so low they decided it wasn't worth it to keep in the game. And the fact that barely a handful of people have made forum posts about wanting it back in the YEAR that it's been gone kinda bear me out on that. You can go back and read the topics if you'd like; most people agreed it was a boring, repetitive grind of a voyage.

Of course there are a handful of people out there that liked it. Nothing in the world is so unpopular that it has ZERO interest.

  • everyone loved it

    Not many.|

    Absolutely nobody liked it.

Not even true, I liked it among my crew mates who found it to be easy and simple.

unless you really liked mermaid gems.

seeing they offered good Rep for any faction besides Athena. It was well worth it.

  • Thieves haven runs were an interesting time in SoT's history

a bit of the best and the worst at the same time.

Organically speaking, they were the most intense thing to exist in the game. Based on time required, the route and metas at the time, appeal, participation, grind, etc etc. Wild times. Way more intense than even world events back in the day.

Whether people liked them or not is irrelevant to me. Imo it all comes down to "why bother removing a voyage?" It's just something people can do with little maintenance requirement.

Something to lose and nothing to gain is never that great of an idea, imo.

    That's an assumption...

There's SO MANY things in this game that get nearly zero usage yet they remain in the game.

Animal deliveries, shrines, commodities, THE FREAKING QUEST BOARD...

The list could go on. It had nothing to do with how frequently players did it. We have no idea why they retired that bit of content.

From Mike Chapman on X (as @HiradC mentioned)

"There were some cool things about that voyage but diving to specific named islands was something we wanted to avoid. Also that voyage was never widely enjoyed, it was time to retire it."

The last bit there seems a bit ridiculous since that philosophy could be applied to A LOT of stuff in the game.

And the first part..well..seems Tall Tales were something they forgot were in the game.

  • Almost nostalgic, another feature killed by newer easier more efficient content. Something to reference in my day we had to level athena doing this and if you wanted athena flags you'd be looking here or the roar.

I remember seeing on twitter (x) Mike Chapman stated they were removed as they didn't want specific island quests available to control dives.....but we have the tall tales for this.

  • @thegrimpreacher
If you arent a fan of the thieves haven run there were many others, that quest was a personal favorite but my main point is that there are no good athena quests anymore, the legend of the veil ends up just giving you chests of the damned which isnt really even good athena loot, and the modern 2 chapter quest of legends doesnt give nearly enough loot to make it rewarding for the time you spend on it, they should bring back the athena run just for more options of stuff to do. it is understood that the black powder might be a bit overpowered to be able to just dig up, but there are many other bits of treasure it could be replaced with. The nature of the quest making thieves haven a hotspot, also, was all around so much fun. I really do think they should bring back the Theives Haven run, or at least upgrade the current voyage of legends a bit.

  • I hated it because it was predictable, and aggressive players knew it.

  • Thieves haven was super fun for me since it was a tuck haven, see an Athena Emmi on the table when server hopping, sailed straight to Thieves and camped for a while, while my duo would try and locate the ship doing a run or not.
I kinda miss it in the sense of action, now a days there's so many ways of getting the funny blue chest it lost it's value completely and tucking patiently and really having one shot to make it work is a lost art...

  • @th3-tater aggressive players? Back then i was a lot less pvp orientated but it was just about the only way to get athena flags for the reaper commendations.

@HiradC this guy lol. And it's not a complaint that they wanted to attack me or anything. Like he said, check the tables, see an Athena at grade 2 or 3, they're at or around Thieves Haven.

I did all my reaper comms completely organically. No hopping for targets and nothing I consider cheesy. Server investment only.

Took me like 2 years just for the 5x grade 5 athena flags and I might have seen like 12 total that entire time lol. So wildly rare around that time without hopping for stuff/server sharing.

    Such a different game now.
