MASSIVE grievance with sneaking in season 14

  • I love sneaking as a mechanic, but what I absolutely cannot stand is the fact that you cannot aim, interact, or shoot without canceling the animation and leaving stealth. It adds a huge layer of jank to the feature that I hope is addressed soon.
My wishlist for the season included a 1 shot backstab while sneaking with the throwing knife, but I'll take what I can get.

  • That sounds OP for a simple silly mechanic

  • You would have to start sneaking, and then manage to get behind someone and charge a heavy attack, which takes far longer and is far more obvious than the blunderbuss. A backstab would generally be a pleasant mechanic.

Far too long? Means you’re not waiting for the perfect time to strike.

  • The WHOLE point of the blunderbuss nerf was that there would be (and SHOULD be) absolutely NO one-hit-kills with any handheld weaponry, no matter what kind of complicated acrobatics you have to do to achieve it.

    This idea is counterproductive.

There's absolutely no way to initiate combat or interaction from stealth mode BY DESIGN. They're not gonna address it.

  • @thegrimpreacher
To say nothing of the fact that you can still "oneshot" someone via double gunning and the quickswap exploit (which was supposed to have been fixed years ago).

  • @thegrimpreacher I think you're wrong. I think everyone would sing its praise if it were added into the game, and I've seen lots of support for it already.
A one-shot that's very hard to pull off regularly would be an absolutely perfect fit for Sea of Thieves, and play very well into the stealthy mechanics of the season.

  • @felix-ashur The only way to one shot is by cannon.

Not worth implementation, to be honest. Players move and turn around way too much, making this scenario highly situational meaning very little return on dev time and a lot of room for error - like not getting a backstab because there was desync and your target was in the wrong orientation.

In every situation, you'd be better off just using regular attacks if you're going to spoil your stealth by "going loud".

  • @felix-ashur The fact that "one-shotting" requires TWO weapons AND an exploit.....negates the whole 'one' part of a two word term.

Rare obviously doesn't, as they made it clear from jump they didn't WANT there to be a way to initiate combat from crouching. Pretty much end of discussion right there.

Also everyone would not sing its praise. I wouldn't. Neither would most of the people I play and converse with regularly on my Discords and dozens of people on this forum who were vocal in their support of removing the 'OTK' aspect of the blunderbuss.

You probably shouldn't generalize and attempt to speak for the entire community.

  • You should be able to do stuff while crouched. Period.

You can crouch walk and put on your chest/barrel disguises so thats 2 things lol.

Isn't crouching also how we will be able go disarm traps & hang from ledges/ships? (Once those are fixed and in the game)

  • what if I boarded someone started crouching then stabbed someone and just did this on repeat? what's going to stop someone from just running around hiding on your ship then stabbing you when you run past or what about in combat someone starts crouching then one hit or if it has to be in the back you turn to run for a second boom dead

  • @sharkfire75 if you get backstabbed by someone that started crouching while you're staring at them then that's your problem

  • My only grievance with the system is that there's commendations to sneak and steal stuff from skeleton ships but they are practically impossible because the skeleton aggro on you and don't deaggro even when outside of sight it seems.
Maybe it will be fixed when they add the hanging spots.
Something we need is a way to remind us what weapon we have equiped while crouching and a way to switch weapons without breaking crouching.

  • @reaperxaniel I meant that they just crouch and one hit you and then what are you going to do

  • @sharkfire75 Look at them. Its not hard.

Yes The AI is janky af especially on ships however it was very easy and quick to do this commendation. Kill alot of the skeletons on the mid deck of a skelly galleon, run to cannonball barrel, crouch, grab 10 cannonballs and dump them back, close and open barrel ui and repeat.

Maybe it will be fixed when they add the hanging spots.

I dont see this being fixed ever, the game and its updates lack the polish to do so and the updates the game has gotten only have gotten less and less polish over the years.

  • @reaperxaniel I mean if you don't actually have to stab them in the back

  • @sharkfire75 Yes you would, you would need to stab them in the back to one shot them, that's what I suggested.

  • @reaperxaniel i was expecting to be able to get picked up as a chest and brought onto an enemy ship if I stashed myself in a pile of loot... thats what most of us were led to believe.

  • @reaperxaniel As long as it is in the back there wouldn't be a problem except for maybe lag or latency or something like that. your ideas are good.
