I'm in the middle of an hourglass battle and I have no issue completely leaving the tab and opening the forums because my ship is in no danger at all. Two times now I've encountered a player who sticks their ship inside of dagger tooth outpost and just waits to be attacked. The positioning of their ship makes it impossible for it to take on water. They can simply board your ship and sail it off to the border of the fight, if you're not able to kill them. The only way you can win this is by hoping that they will leave game. Please fix this
Hourglass Dagger Tooth Bug
I was just doing PvE stuff with my friends over the weekend, and we came across a solo sloop attempting to do this at golden sands. Or at least we think so, because we had to move his ship before we could sink him, and he was HG.
He called me cringe for trying to fire strat him. Lol.
In addition to detecting outright cheaters (which it barely seems to do), I was really hoping EAC would auto-detect stuff like this and supplies/item duping, and auto-kick from the session. Enough auto-kicks and it auto-yellows while Rare reviews the account for sus activity.
I think it would be funny if Rare patched those zones to automatically start popping holes in ships that have HG voted up. If people want to harpoon their ships to funny spots just for sotshot or whatever, they should still be allowed to.
This is what happens when you try to shoehorn a competitive mode inside a "sHaReD wOrLd aDvEnTuRe gAmE." People resort to all kinds of weird behavior.
After a little while I was able to sink him, so if anybody else encounters this issue, this is how I did it:
Riddle the ship with holes (they will not take on any water right now, but luckily the ship probably will not bother repairing them)
Once they have a LOT of holes, you can go board them
Once on board, you'll have to kill the player (or preferably simply knock them off the ship) and make sure the anchor is raised
When the ship is inside Dagger Tooth, I don't think it's possible to bring it back out. Instead, fire the harpoons of the ship at the ground and winch them in. This should cause the ship to tilt over to one side and take on a lot of water from the unrepaired holes.
I got very lucky because I was able to keep killing the dude and knocking him off his ship, but if they're able to bail out all the water you'll have to try again. If you're dedicated enough and your ship is safe, eventually you'll be able to get it, but unless you have a streak going it might be better just to let yourself sink at that point because it's a really inconsistent tactic for winning.
Good luck to anyone who comes across this
@th3-tater That would be a good move, unfortunately the spot they get into on Dagger Tooth is surrounded by sheer rocks on all sides and you can't drag it up

Okie. They are smart but its risky.
The positioning of their ship makes it impossible for it to take on water.
yeah and limits themselves to firing back, its still very low ground, in the end the game may go "Oops" and delete the ship because its "stuck"
They can simply board your ship and sail it off to the border of the fight
Leaving there ship unattended....you could quickly grab there ship and attempt to sail them out. :P
@bkb Its burnbacon, you could make a suggestion with a cure for cancer and he'd pop in and say ''no its fine as is''

So unfortunately, no it is not all that risky for them because there aren't many ways for them to sink.

So again unfortunately because their ship is still technically in the water, it does not despawn no matter how long you wait. Also, if they're able to board your ship, they can try and sail you out to the edge of the battle. The person I was up against had a stash of kegs somewhere on the island and he kept trying to swim them over to my ship and blow them up, using that as a way to sink me. So even if they can't shoot cannons, there are still multiple ways for them to take your ship out.

And again unfortunately no you cannot sail it out. In order for the ship to get in that position, you would have to face your ship directly into the island, and while you're in that crevice, there is not enough room to turn the ship around. I tried while I was in that battle. I also tried using the harpoons to drag the ship backwards, but I'm not sure if that works considering if you stop reeling them in for even a second to deal with the ship's owner, the ship will return to its original position.
Now I don't mean to yap so much, again I was able to sink the ship and win the battle, so I know it is possible if you're able to keep your opponent distracted enough. However, considering that was the only way I could figure out how to sink the ship and it's so complicated and risky, I feel like they should make a change to make it more fair.
I frankly dont see theses as exploits. Just clever ship placement.
What next, I play defense and hide a rowboat near a fortress with Kegs. Place my ship on one side, wait for them to come around without noticing my Keg boat and blow them up. Or use the Fortress cannons while my ship sails around it. ( duo sloop)
To test this exploit. I placed my ship in what was described and see if I could sink my own ship.
I could. Cannon rowboat, popped 6 shots on the front, 2 on the side. Filled with water, but didnt go down. Raised anchor. It moved a little, no sink. It moved little more. Pop! It gone. Still in the small pond, it was funny to watch it clip into the water. There even videos on this.
Hi, my crew is currently stuck in an hourglass with another crew abusing this. They clearly have holes but aren't taking on water. We've been parked on the other side of the map for about an hour waiting for something to happen, but their ship isn't getting reset (like I've seen happen in other non-sink locations).
I'm glad we were the ones who queued into them and not another crew (who might have less experience or patience, and might be dissuaded from returning to the seas), but it makes me sad to see something like this in the game. Sorry to bump an old-ish thread, but I think it's still worth looking into this. It doesn't feel like a feature.
