The Burning Blade Exploit Fix Idea

  • Add a timer to turning in the Burning Blade. For every level of tribute it takes 5-10 seconds to turn in or for the orbs to be absorbed by Flameheart.

So at 5 seconds a Level 3 = 15 seconds, Level 10 = 50 seconds, Level 3450 = 4.7 hours. If your exploiting your going to be sitting there for forever. If the Burning Blade is sunk before the timer finishes the turn in is failed. This adds stakes to turning in, making it so the crew doesn't just run and quick turn in and forces them to defend the ship while turning in and it memes the exploiters by forcing them to sit there and wait if they have an unthinkably high number.

  • Cap ritual streak at 8. Lock everyone who did the large streak exploit to safer seas. Want to exploit to bypass progression and risk, enjoy safer seas. Ok I'm being sarcastic with that one, or am I...

  • @a10dr4651 cap needs to be higher than 8. make it a little worth getting it higher. I'd cap it out at 20 or something.

  • @captain-coel I only say 8 because of the commendation. Any cap is fine really.

  • @thestephensofar they need to ban every single person using this explot. period its CHEATING

  • Seriously doubt they'll do anything, they never punished players abusing the sea fort voyage exploits

    Bahahahahhaa! Love it.
Cap it at whatever the comm/achievement is, but it only counts if it takes more than an hour to get to 8.

It would be hilarious if various exploits required you to re earn the amount of gold you exploited before anything starts going up again.

People say this kind of thing about exploits but all anyone is going off of is what they hear and if they know someone (or did the exploits themselves) and have a few examples of some people not getting banned.

People definitely slip through but I'm not convinced they don't ban at least some accounts during these exploitfests.

I definitely think the exploits have reached the point where they get so much attention that it is becoming more and more likely that people face consequences in the future. Even if that is just a system of rolling back progress.

They don't spend all that time developing and maintaining their game just so people can exploit all season.

  • Im literally not finding any legit streaks on the map anynore. Everyone already has all their commendations done, the cosmetics, and hundreds of millions in gold. Whats the point of doing it legit way if everyone wont be punsihed or have progress taken away? Its been nearly a week since exploit has been known about. Im going to continue to do it the legit way and hope rare does something for once

  • Y'all are looking at the cashin, make the orb a key that gets placed just like the forts. Forces 1 completion per camp.

  • @lt-josh84

We can hope, but, just like how people who exploited HG got to keep their levels, how people who exploited the guild rep got to keep their levels, how people who exploited the LotV ship voyages got to keep their gold, how people who exploited the horn respawns got to keep their achievement, I'm 99.99% positive those who exploited this too, will get to keep whatever gold/rep they falsely earned. The unsaid-rule seems to be, "exploit early, exploit often," since nothing happens to those who do it.

We just turned in an 8-streak tonight, and noticed the #1 ledger is something like 324 million. It's sad really.

  • There's quite a lot of potential fixes, what baffles me is that this is being allowed to go on for days while more and more exploiters do their thing and risk being punished, which is bad business for Rare, not to mention how they already punish themselves just by doing the exploit and rob themselves of monetary progress fun in future.

Surely one of these fix bandaids would be quick to implement. But apparently not

  • Should definitely cap rituals at 8 til the exploits are patched. Cant believe theyre letting this go on

  • Why don't they just have it be throwing down a knife like voting for a voyage. Where it automatically goes

  • @europa4033 we did a 10 streal last night (completely unopposed hence going past 8) and it felt so stupid to turn in and get 350k when all I see is social media posts of people turning in stolen swords or streaks and getting 400 levels of rep, hundred million gold. We stopped at 10 just becsuse we had been at it since 830 pm east and it was close to 1am est. Granted we didnt get the burning blade until 10 30pm but it still took us over 2 hours to get a 10 streak. Another thing that kinda sucks is prior to season 13 i had already amassed 334 million in gold and bought all the cosmetics. Ibwas proud of that accomplishment especially since over 225 came from steals and sinks. Now everyone and their brother can have hundreds of millions just by playing for a week or two. Was legit trying to get to 400 mil before years end but dont care anynore.

  • @hefty-henri well sadly as someone else has pointed out no one has ever gotten punished for using abusing exploits. The guild exploiters, the hour glass exploiters, the vault exploiters etc etc all got to keep their progress and gold. The straws have been building on the camels back for a long while now. I have way to much time in the game already. Over a year spent in game. I find myself playing less and less. Went from a daily 6 hour play to a daily 3 hour play to 5 or 6 days a week down to 3 now im down to 2 days a week and 3.5 hour sessions. 90% is to hang out with mt crew ive sailed with for 5 years and chat though.

  • @thestephensofar
I like this idea just because it doesn’t technically “remove” the exploit so it would frustrate the life out of the weirdos that exploit in a game where money buys you no advantage.

  • @lt-josh84

I'm so sorry LtJosh. I'm with you on this. You sound like an amazing player that puts your heart into it. I'm the exact same way. What really sucks, is how I was grinding HG levels to get my first HG curse, while others exploited it. I grinded rep for the Athena faction, while others exploited it with the shipwrecks. My crew and I (6-7 of us total) grinded our guild level (currently 268), while others exploited it to lvl 1,000. I'm still grinding for distinction 5 on all the factions (almost there with reapers and OoS), while others exploited it.

More recently, I saw you had to turn in 250 horns to get the Midnight Prowler sails. I put that off while I killed 1,000 skeletons, killed 50 keg-carrying skeletons, 1,000 phantoms , 250 sharks, shot 50 bone-callers at skeleton ships, 1,000 scattershot, hit Megs with scattershot, etc.. Then, I found out there had been an exploit many used to get that achievement done and was now patched (((I noticed the amount of horns needed for the commendation stayed the same, so I knew that number probably wasn't going to change after the patch. I grinded nonstop for a week, starting early in the morning, and kept going until I was tired. I finally turned in the 250, only for the requirements on everything to be lowered a week or so later))).

The fact that I missed out on so much while nothing happened to those who chose to exploit, is frustrating. The fact that you EARNED the amount of gold you've accumulated (I'm almost at 200 million, thru no part by exploits), is a huge achievement that's not only being dwarfed by exploiters, others are going to scoff and assume you exploited as well, leaving a bitter taste. With so many getting away with the exploits I've mentioned, it makes me feel foolish for not taking advantage.

I love this game. The love I have for it, includes having integrity not to use exploits or cheats to get items/levels/achievements I'd love to have. It's having appreciation for the employees who work hard everyday managing, maintaining and creating the game we know and love. Why these players don't receive repercussions is beyond me, because what they've clearly displayed is anything but integrity. Just my opinion from where I'm coming from with 5k+ hours so far.

  • @europa4033 Other people cheating their way to achievements doesn't take away from your accomplishments. On Steam for example, you can simply install 3rd party software to pop any achievement you want on any game. In the 100% achievement community, there are many people who did this and also many people who frown upon it and put in the actual effort. But ultimately the accomplishment is for your own satisfaction and maybe the people closely around you who know you did it legitimately. Other people cheating doesn't take that away from you.

  • @hefty-henri

100% correct. Guess I should've exploited from the start as well then, I probably would have many more HG levels than I currently do.

  • @europa4033 That was not the point i was making, i'm saying you have the possibility of being proud because you did it legitimately. The people who cheat their way to something can't say the same, even if they try to pretend to.

  • The exploiting is out of control. YouTube is just endless videos of ritual streaks in the 200+ all due to exploits.
It is insane that this was not hotfixed day one.
If you also just google "Sea of Thieves hacks" you will find endless videos of how to download hacks; I had no idea it was so easy to download an aimbot for this game.

There seems to be no punishment for anything. Honestly the same thing has happened with Valorant. Once Riot made enough money from their skins, they stopped banning people, and decided to never put effort into combating it. Instead they masked the problem with E-Sports promotions/marketing.
It's the same thing here. The Pirate Emporium has now made enough money, that there's no reason to stop hackers.

All games with in-store shops seem to suffer the same miserable hacking fate.
Dark and Darker is the exact same thing.

They don't have to lol. They know they cheated, but that doesn't bother them in the slightest, as the ends justifies the means no matter what. All they know is, they have cosmetics they can show off proudly, thanks to the cheats/exploits they did, and others assume they did it legit and marvel. That's how it is man.

  • @europa4033 Idk what cosmetics you have in mind that you don't need commendations for and just cost a lot of money that people marvel at, but i can't think of any. Money has been easy to amass for a long time, all these guys did is make sure they never need money again (assuming they can keep it) which sucks for them because it robs them of another layer of progression.

  • This post is no longer relevant.

Both forms of the Exploit have been patched. I’m surprised that it was done as fast as it was but considering there were ships with 50 or more streaks I can understand why it was patched.

The only question is, who will receive a punishment for using this exploit if there is any punishment at all.

Money was just one side of the coin. Reputation, achievements, etc. is the other. Now that the exploit is patched, it seems all their fun has been taken away and no one bothers with it anymore.
