Game Keeps Teleporting Me Back to the Wheel

  • I recently upgraded my PC and now I'm able to consistently run the game at the frame cap of 300fps. Although I was happy at first I noticed an issue where the game would teleport me back to the wheel after playing for around 30 minutes or so. I know it's not my internet because I'm hard wired and I have some of the fastest internet speeds available to consumers. I was able to find a semisolution to the issue by using the in game frame lock to 144fps, but I would rather get more than 144fps since my monitor goes up to 360hz. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar issue. If you have go ahead and respond!

  • I have the same exact issue. I also believe it is only with the wheel. It specifically occurs when I am switching back and forth often and quickly sprint off of wheel. Any solution yet?

  • It's possible that running the game at extremely high FPS is causing you to drop packets on the network side, which would result in the server correcting your position because it never received updated data or was missing a packet and determined that what you were trying to tell the server was a valid position was determined as invalid because it was missing intermediary steps.

  • @moonchytv the only way that I've found to mitigate the issue is to stop moving the wheel for about 2 seconds before you leave it to go do something else. If you're in a storm though it is basically impossible. On the sloop, however, I've been able to grab the sail quick enough to where it cancels out the teleport glitch so that kind of works too.

I had the same problem. I researched the issue and found it was some kind of file on my PC that was not updating properly. I was recommended to reinstall sea of thieves and that solved the issue immediately. I hope this solution works for you also.

Yeah, iirc it's around 210-220fps where the fps glitching starts to happen. Don't remember the exact number but a streamer tested it a while back.

  • exact same situation since weeks at least. They announced performance fixes for the last update but this still exists. Solo Slooping seems to be worse since you do a lot of wheel adjusting while sailing or playing and then sprinting forwards to the harpoons / cannons etc and often get teleported back to the wheel.

Really annoying but at this point it has been weeks and not to mention the mini rubberbands since months if not years. I stopped hoping for a fix because every update brings more content and server strain. Can't get better, only worse from what it feels like.

  • For anyone wondering, yes the fix is to cap your fps at roughly 144. Which solves it fully.
