Crashes after game update (Xbox PC app) (FIXED)

    @janksy1 Ya I originally thought it was issues with XBOX App as mine wouldn't log in. First day I got random crashes to desktop and then spent the next 2-3 days troubleshooting as I couldn't even get the game to load since it was saying I needed to sign into XBOX App.... It then found corrupt files for the MS Store so I reset that and reinstalled the game. Still had issues so I reinstalled Windows completely which solved the login issue but now I still get random crashes followed by hazelnutbeard errors which is getting really annoying....

    I've purchased this game 3 times already (Kids PCs and myself) wish I could migrate it over to Steam without having to purchase it again....sigh...

    @kick3rz , it does sound very similar to my issue. I've tried all sorts of troubleshooting including resetting the store too but no luck. Really hoping to not have to reinstall windows. if your's is no longer having the xbox app issue but the game is still crashing, doesn't sound like they're related.. hopefully Rare can provide a fix soon.

    If you are on the MS Store version, from what I've heard, it seems the most reliable temporary solution is to end the Easy Anti-Cheat process from Task Manager once the game starts.

    That's not ideal, and it goes against the whole point of SOT introducing EAC to begin with. But the devs are aware of the issues, so you are not being ignored.

    If you can afford to do so, I would recommend getting the Steam version (which is currently on sale) because it does seem to be more stable.

    Personally speaking, it's great to have both as an option. However, if you can't afford it, just hang tight. I am sure a fix is being worked on - bear in mind this update launched on Thursday and it takes a bit of time to deploy a fix once it's identified.

    My game crash every 20/30 min.
    Same problem, to the desktop without errors.
    Pls Rare fix it ,it's impossibile to play

    Same problem for me = multiples crash without errors / disconnected + problems connections since last update (hazelbeard).

    I tried uninstalling the game and updating the nvidia drivers but same crash without error

    Game unplayable in this state.

    We need fix rare

    @deus-i-dragon I spent the money on the Steam version after his, and have had no crashes in 5 days. My buddy who was on MS Store was crashing, next day got Steam version and no more. It's a real fix, just not a fair one.

    Thought about that already but can't convince myself to give them more money for the "same" game on a different store, when they broke it.

    Never had any lasting problems and I have the game since release, honestly it feels a bit like getting punished for supporting and buying it on release day, seeing how stable the Steam versions seems to be in comparison.

    @deus-i-dragon My steam verison crashes every 5 minutes. the game overall is completely broken and Rare knowingly released this update most likely aware of the problems which is just stupid and strange for a triple A studio. I really lose hope for the future of this game everyday.

    My wife and I both use the Xbox app on PC and both are experiencing nonstop crashes about every 15 minutes, sometimes sooner, not to mention HG diving just keeps putting us at outposts and wont get a match (Sloop HG), and sometimes cant release to the ferryman but instead have to wait out the timer. Game unplayable in this state, and it only begun happening since this last update. We also both completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game. It didnt effect the issue at all. Guess we just miss out on the event. Lastly, I'm coming across Steam players having the same issue with crashing every 10-15 minutes(sometimes sooner).

    The fact that they are running an event, when a vast majority of players are experiences serious issues, is just bewildering. Tried playing last night and I did 2 Legendary Voyages in the devils roar. Game crashed 6 times. I was determined to finish the voyages, sell and get off the game! Couldn't even face doing to Grade 5 Emissary voyage. So frustrating!

    Just want to add to this. I am also seeing crashing issues after this latest update. I play on PC via the MS Store version.

    When I load in I can play for maybe 30mins then game just closes.

    When I re-launch I get prompted to launch in Safe Mode, I just say no to that.

    Then I can rejoin my session. However a lot of times I get the hazelnutbeard error and have to rejoin the session again.

    Not a fun time especially when you have good loot on your ship ;)

    I have the exact same issue. A crash is guaranteed within the first 20 min of launching the game. This is a complete crash to desktop. On relaunch I will (90% or more) get a Hazelnutbeard disconnected error and re-join again.
    Once that dance has completed it is usually more stable and sometimes go an hour before crashing again.
    This is a definitely a bug as it started with the Windows codebase change (season 11) and does not happen on my Xbox series X when playing there. (proving that it isn't my internet connection)

    I play through cloud gaming on the pc now and I get all the crashes too, beard errors, merges crash me regularly, emerging during a raid crashes the game. Back to back crashes, the smorgasbord of crashes.

    90% of my sinks aren't from pvp this season they are from unfortunate crashing and not getting back in time lol

    Ran into a cheater last night. His ship was invisible and I only saw him right before he fired a cannon. And he perfectly one shot me as I was running across my boat. I logged off after that and now I am constantly crashing. I cannot get into the game at all.

    Saw this on Reddit and it appears to have solved the ms store version crashing to desktop for me, although it also may just be a massive coincidence.

    In settings turn off guild invites.

    Not sure why that would have helped but not crashed since doing that.

    Uninstalled reinstalled. Ran integrity check. Updated drivers. No other game on my PC crashing. I am running the Xbox PC version of the game (not Steam - Steam players I play with have no issues). I wish this could be fixed soon, so that I can enjoy the extra loot with the event going on.

    @k3zeero1988 I have honestly no explanation why it seemed to have worked for me.
    You could try turning it on then start a game. If it crashes, turn it off, start a game & pray.
    Perhaps it was the act of just toggling a setting rather than the actual setting, maybe bugged on server side if they stored there, but that's only a wild guess.

    I just tried killing the EAC process after launch of the game + disabling guild invites and it just crashed again after ~30 minutes.

    Back today after not playing in 5 years. Have the day 1 patch and everything. Spent all day trying... trying to enjoy this game. Sometimes i never made it to my ship before game crashed. Once i made it to my 1st destination to loot a wreckage. Got all the loot onto my sloop then game crashed. Really want to use the event double exp to finally hit legend. Level 41 on 2 reps 46 one another. Not going to happen it seems. Never been this disappointed in gaming before ever.

    I would keep an eye on their support twitter and maybe browse the forums over the next couple of days to see how things go.

    It's frustrating but there are 4 days left and since this is an access issue it likely will see improvement somewhat soon.

    They know it's wearing people down and have acknowledged it as recently as today's preview event.

    Give 'em a bit more time to work it out and you may end up having fun in the game soon.

    SOT crashes at least twice per hour, losing our loot and progress. My wife was able to stay connected for 30 minutes for the first crash, then there was a 10 minute wait, logged back in and the game crashed in 2 minutes.

    Seven crashes tonight is my new best, up from my previous best of three in a similar length session, similar crash intervals to many others, too. And a Hazelnutbeard to fully end my ship's night on-top of a shrine.

    I think I'm done playing solo until something is done to correct the issue.

    calling it right now... its going to take another 100 gig reinstall to fix this so thats 300 gigs in the past 2 months for SoT

    @captblue3052 it worked! today i managed to play for 10 minutes before the game crashed instead of 5 minutes before crashing on the 19th! thanks rare!

    i really hope they can fix that before the anniversary ends, they should really think about extending the anniversary for people who couldnt play the game because of rare

    Sad to hear.. I was really looking forward to play with my mates this evening. Well I still got some hours left, I might aswell just try to reinstall SoT completely again, maybe it magically helps.. will take me 3h due to sucky german bandwith speeds.

    @spiredmoon98054 Well, I thought they fixed this, but I just crashed again today (March 21), This on top of getting attacked every 10 minutes by other players, this game has really been sucking lately.
