  • Then, PS and Steam should get the Xbox stuff as well, which as a Xbox player...I do not want.

  • @BurnBacon cross progression. You can take your Duke/Ferryman/Bonecrusher set to PS5 to counter flex.

The red seems weird for Playstation branding tho. Definitely gives Crimson weapon vibes from Borderlands 1 tho lol.

  • @burnbacon Its not like the xbox stuff is exclusive, rare, or sought after in any sense. You can get it even if you play on steam by linking an xbox account that has game-pass. Its not rare as most players who play on xbox have it. And due to its reputation on the seas, its certainly not sought after.

  • Coming Soon

Steam, Windows 10/11 and Xbox versions have no need to feel left out, as these three editions will release on our existing platforms next week, alongside a jam-packed March content update.

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/news/p-s5-editions

  • @tesiccl Yeah you can buy the editions, but you still won't get the ruby viper set as you need to pre-order them to get it. Not simply buy them normally.

  • @tesiccl

these editions will release next week alongside March’s content update. More on that later

Nobody seems to wanna wait..."More on that later"

  • PC/Xbox Players have FAR more cosmetics that will never be available to incoming PlayStation players.

Even if you don't include Pre-Orders, there have been numerous limited-time events etc that are no longer available to anyone starting to folks starting anew.

  • @look-behind-you

    Argumentum ad antiquitatem

  • FOMO Marketing makes people upset. It is designed to do that. I'm sure people will go out and buy a PS5 (Or order a 2nd copy of the game on their already existing PS5) when they don't want or need one just to get these cosmetics.

The second that you quit caring about Sea of Thieves having things that you cannot get or should not get the happier you will be with the game and in modern gaming in general. Companies love to employ this nonsense to get you to play the current season, buy preorder bonuses, get the special deluxe package for a game you already own, and so on.

It preys on that kind of dirty consumerist behavior that people have when they get obsessed over a product, company, or whatever.

    Edit: wording

  • Like I mentioned, if you don't own a copy of the game the premium one with the Dark Warsmith set is a good deal. That set is easily more than the 50$, plus you have a copy of the game if you're not gamepass.

If you had any thoughts on getting Dark warsmith stuff 😂

Anyways, you can get it. Pre-order it on ps5. Cross progression baby.

  • @burnbacon I guess we'll see if "more on that later" means we can pre-order them. If so my complaint is gone.

  • @look-behind-you That's because Playstation players have never had access to Sea of Thieves, whereas xbox/pc players have had sea of thieves for years now. This isn't about us having more time limited exclusives, its about this set being PLATFORM exclusive. Which has never happened before.

  • @look-behind-you
Like the arena sets? I get a little sad every time i see them in the menu. Relics of a playmode these new guys will never have had a chance to enjoy.

  • You can pre order the game and log on to any ps5 to link your SOT account, it's not too bad.
The release is to entice and please new ps5 players with exclusive cosmetics, not us! An I think rare have done a great job with those weapons!
All of these PS5 players will not be able to acquire anything from any adventures or previous time limited events we had, let them have this!
These cosmetics will not be available to pre order with the steam/Xbox versions, it states that they'll only be available with ps5 pre orders.

Ease up on the complaining and buy the ps5 version if you want the weapons, also it's a W because you are supporting the game that you love.

  • I'm buying the pre order for the ps5 version anyways because I'm already getting a ps5. But what I want to know is if my main account still gets the weapons when I buy it?

I don't care if I have to buy a whole new edition of the game all over again...

That's LITERALLY how you can get the set...

  • @sweetsandman by that I meant a whole new edition on the platform I already have

  • @multikl said in Give us pc/xbox players a way to obtain the ruby viper set:

@look-behind-you That's because Playstation players have never had access to Sea of Thieves, whereas xbox/pc players have had sea of thieves for years now. This isn't about us having more time limited exclusives, its about this set being PLATFORM exclusive. Which has never happened before.

The platform is the launcher, not the device. And there are many cosmetics that are exclusive to the Microsoft version that the Steam version can not get.

  • @fieldyswfc buying the PS5 version would also require buying a PS5 for a lot of players. I can see OPs point here. This was a game that was exclusive to Xbox/microsoft. If PS5 players wanted to play this game they could have bought an Xbox or PC.

  • @look-behind-you I know this but I am quite happy to drop the money for the PS5 version. I would just like to ensure I have access to everything under one pirate. If you could clarify what we need to do to ensure this that would be extremely helpful.

  • @look-behind-you I'll hold you to this statement when swathes of new ps5 players start demanding time limted items. 😐

  • @multikl why is everyone getting so excited about old skins recoloured for ps5? My mind is boggled that people are willing to pay for the game again just to get old and not very good skins. Global recession? What global recession...

  • @captain-coel

"platform" and "device" are synonymous. The steam version in its nature is on PC, therfore if you wanted the duke set (the ONLY Microsoft exclusive cosmetic) you could just buy game pass for 1 month on the xbox app on your already owned device.

The difference here is that this pack is exclusive only to those who buy the game on a completely different device.

This is the first time this has ever happened.

  • @qu1etone

The quality of the items is up to opinions. Personally I think a red-grey obsidian weapon set is AWESOME.

Keep in mind this is presumably the only time we will ever be able to obtain these cosmetics. Who knows how rare they'll be in 5 years.

  • @pithyrumble said in Give us pc/xbox players a way to obtain the ruby viper set:

@BurnBacon You can take your Duke/Ferryman/Bonecrusher

Duke set can still be obtained on PC or on xbox, and ferryman/bonecrusher were time limited. Not console limited.

But these were TIME-LIMITED. Meaning anyone who played SOT during that time could obtain them.

The difference is we're taking the existing community, adding a whole new set of fresh players, and giving them something the existing community cannot get. Thats my point.

Platform and Device are not synonymous. Xbox/PC/PS are devices and Xbox/Steam/PS are platforms. Its more that there has never been anything unique for steam players and that is a mistake. Give Steam players a cosmetic you can not get on the Microsoft version, this would be win in my book.

There have been alot of platform bound cosmetics to those who play on the Microsoft version of the game. Ferryman, Lord Guardian, the Chips ahoy codes, the Mercenary Codes, the midnight blunderbuss codes, the charity sails codes, the spinal figurehead codes, the black friday sails codes, the unique bundles often available on for $$$ in the MS store, the codes from gamepass, the codes from amazon gaming, the stuff from mixer going way back, og 6 pack codes. And I am sure I am missing some, but even if you can get those codes today, they only work on a microsoft version of the game and not steam.

The issue is we need unique steam cosmetics that are not obtainable on xbox, give everyone something.

Isn't willing to spend 300+$ for a weapon set is my excuse. I can absolutely get the latest limited time cosmetics. I just have to buy a Ps5 and SoT 🤑

That and I hate Sony lol. So...

    Let it go....❄️❄️❄️

  • @captain-coel

True you're right about platforms and devices, my bad.

But no, you can redeem all of those codes on the microsoft website which will add them to your xbox account which is linked to your steam. You don't even need an Xbox.

Wrong. You have to launch the Microsoft version of the game to get them initially the steam version will not let them be loaded onto your account. This can be accomplished by loading onto any generation of xbox, or the pc microsoft version, or the cloud version which counts as a series X log in.

  • @captain-coel

For the duke set I can see that making sense but your telling me every event code you could ever get had to be on the microsoft version of the game?

Whats your source? Cause that doesn't sound right.

Source, I dont have a direct source, but its a known issue that when you buy things from one platform, you need to launch on that platform to get it. Also that whole list predates the Steam version of the game.

  • @captain-coel

Okay so whats your point, several of those items predate the release of the steam version of the game, so obviously they would not be able to unlock it as they are still technically time limited.

Ferryman, mercenary, chips ahoy codes, and the midnight blunderbuss all came out before the steam version was released. So steam users had no way of obtaining them and they were never intended to function with steam
The lord guardian sails come with a code for MS and a code for steam. 2 in the same package.
Spinal figurehead came out before steam as well but has since been added to game pass which you can get on steam by buying game pass on the microsoft store website. (same as the duke set)
The charity sails, black friday sails, and "unique bundles" either came out before the steam version or were bought IN GAME and not on the xbox store. So you could buy them on steam.
The amazon prime and mixer stuff also came out before the steam version.
The "codes from gamepass" again can be obtained on steam via buying gamepass on the website

This is again not an argument about time limited items. You cannot argue that they are "bound to the microsoft version of the game" when they came out before the steam version existed as they were never intended for that.

I would like to reiterate that the original post was about them adding console exclusive items that you need a real physical console for. Which again, has never happened before now.

  • @multikl thats why my proposal would be to have unique steam cosmetics that can only be obtained on that platform. If you buy gamepass you are buying or more likely leasing that platform to have access. you still have to launch on that platform as the steam copy will give you none of it. There are also bundles generally available in the MS version and not available in the steam version.

I say give them all their own. Let the players sort it out.
