Hourglass Matchmaking Queue is too long

  • I'm a highly skilled player so I expect longer queue times but waiting constantly for over 45 minutes to an hour for a single fight, is ridiculous. Hourglass needs to have less sbmm involved and more cbmm. The year long waiting is a huge game killer. I should be matched within a matter of 3-5 minutes after diving, not 1 hour. Makes me tired waiting so long for a fight. And this is for me at any time of the day. I'm posting this now at 11:20am on a Thursday. I'm looking forward to the day PS5 comes just to help reduce queue times, but by that time I will have my gold curse, if not, both Gold curses. Reduce the time to matchmake! I'm here to play SoT, not a Submarine Simulator.

  • Rare cannot manifest real players in your stamp that are also interested in playing hourglass on demand.

I don’t believe you that it’s taking that long to find a match consistently.

But if it is taking that long it’s indicative that there is literally no one else queueing for hourglass in your stamp or the two other players are currently fighting.

Leave the session, join a new one and try again.

If you still don’t find a match then wait til peak times for your region. Weekdays this is after 5pm local time. Weekends pretty much anytime.

If the game cannot find any players you will generally be booted from the dive and a message will pop up saying try again.

TLDR: Hourglass is dependent on real player participation and the mode is fundamentally flawed in that it only appeals to high level PvP players grinding for their gold curses.

  • I live stream this game daily on Kick, I'm not lying, I have no reason too. I've literally sat in a queue for 2 hours straight on a weekend. And yes, I cancel matchmaking to make sure no one is around me to prevent me from actually matchmaking. And personally, I find it hard to believe that no one in my stamp is matchmaking in hourglass at all because I'm in the most active stamp available. What doesn't make sense to me is when I matchmake for almost an hour to find no one, I finally end up finding someone that has 34 flags on their boat. Like it makes no sense how they have that much luck in matchmaking and I don't. And that was just 2 days ago on my stream. Leaving session is not the play either. I would just end up back on the same stamp.

  • @usaxarmystrong Don't worry matey, playstation is joining come April and there will be fresh meat for everyone.

It's not gonna change anything without an improvement in consistency for quality of the experience.

They will give the "no thanks" or burn out like many of the rest without improvements for those that are inexperienced, casual, looking to have fun rather than "be seen as the best"

They will probably be even less interested because now HG has history, friends talk, threads exist, they are inexperienced but that doesn't mean they won't have access to information about hg.

There needs to be organic interest through incentivizing enjoyable participation. Ps5 happening will be a very temporary bump, sustainability requires QoL.

Even a ledger system that isn't built on wins but just participation in some way, rewards and all people gotta do is have a couple fights a day to hit some cannonballs on some ships, make some repairs, etc. Nothing built on being "sweaty" just getting people in a few fights regularly.

This keeps people active without burning them out and causing them to resent the game/content. Reasonable participation, not extreme grinding.

Believe it or not, if there are no players in your available stamp, then you won’t be matched.

Remember that it’s a queue, which means people will be ahead of you waiting their turn too. If that happens to include a 35 flag carrying ship that wipes the floor with you, then maybe you’re not as highly skilled as you think you are.

  • You want rare to conjure unemployed gamers for you on a weekday? Interesting request

  • Try defending . While your waiting you are doing something productive

  • @tesiccl Well I sank him 2x now, so.. lol

My initial thoughts were that you are in a slow region with long queues. Sometimes I play Aussie servers and we’ll raise hourglass and go PvE with it up. Sometimes hours pass by without being invaded, and I actually end up forgetting it’s even raised. But you said that you’re in the “most active time stamp”, which I’ve always believed to be NA East. The NA queue is fairly healthy, relatively speaking. I rarely have long queues as a solo sloop, but if I try a brig off hours it can go long, but even just the other night we queued a brig around 1:00 AM East (our captain was east coast and my ping indicated that we were on an east server) and while the queue was long, it probably only took about 8 minutes to get a match.

I queue on NA West most of the time, almost always as a solo sloop, and the only time I have a long queue (greater than 5 minutes) is late at night or early in the day. 11:45 on a Thursday is going to be slower, no doubt. What region do you queue in? If you’re waiting 45 minutes on NA servers I’d almost think something is wrong, unless maybe you’re on a galley off-hours.

If you don't get in the water, you'll never learn to swim. The batch of ps5 new players will be enough to fill the queues for a while.

  • It may or may not be a help. If the OP is on pc then it may not if they allow ps5 players to only play against console players(which i am sure will be a option). As well we honestly don't know if this will sure up numbers or not. As well HG is to hacked to play anyways they need to get that under control first.

  • @usaxarmystrong level 900 servant player here that only plays hg. I’ve never had to wait 2 hrs for a match. I mainly play brig and galleon however. We find brig ques to be the fastest. Galleons are more active on weekends. Are you only solo que’ing? I’d love to sail with you if you don’t have a crew. Let me know.

  • @vito1700 It's actually sick you ask to play, but I've already got a set crew. Maybe someday though if I need someone for whatever reason, I'll message you

  • Just as an update on this post, my queue's have been bumping since this post has gotten slight attention. Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but this has been a good queue day today.
