Bad experience with ships emerging from the sea

  • Hello,
I wanted to report a bad experience with the diving system in season 11.

I was in a sloop, didn't dive and enjoy exploring the islands and then head to a ghost fleet event.

I confront them and find myself just as the Burning Blade appears.

But at the same time, a brig emerges from the sea in the middle of the event and attacks me.

I should point out that I hadn't voted for allegiance.

Is this kind of scenario really intended for season 11 and the future of SoT?

I see a big balancing problem between those who dive and those who don't. If I'm playing as a solo sloop and at any moment a Gallion or Brig can spawn on my event, how can I stand a chance?

Before, if you saw a ship in the distance, you could anticipate or flee before it arrived. Now I've got a ship coming at me with all cannon blazing.

I suspect this kind of scenario isn't what you wanted with season 11.
So I had to share this experience so that something could be done to improve the overall experience :)

  • @aidanmckellan I don't think you can dive to a contested world event, so sounds like just unlucky timing that you were on the way there.

I wasn't on my way to the event. I was doing it, the final wave appeared and the brig appeared at the same time.
It didn't seem possible to me either

  • A few days ago we dove to an Ashen Lord where another crew was present - AFAIK it isn't supposed to happen, hopefully it will get fixed.

  • @aidanmckellan ah my bad, yeah they definitely said that intention was only uncontested world events after insider feedback so maybe submit a bug report

  • I was collecting pig crates at cannon cove where an ashen winds event was present. I saw a brig just appear out of nowhere and come to do the event, so it's definitely not working as well as intended.
My ship was sunk and a pig killed!

But I remained hidden on the island to keg their ship and kill them all off once they finished the event.

Buried their best loot, but within 3 minutes they were back at the island. Spawned back at port merrick!

Why is it, whenever I put up a merchant flag its like opting in to non stop PVP action? 🤣

  • Dove to a fleet yesterday, surfaced to a grade 3 athena within cannon range easily (around 2x close proximity as HG emergences)

  • Seems to have increased in my raids. On both sides.

No doubt they are working on it but I am concerned it'll drive off casual/pve interest if it goes on too long.

For me it's interesting adventure because I'm not a pirate hunter and I play defense so I don't really bother others and whatever they do largely doesn't bother me.

For others this will be a pretty big issue and can turn into some more cheesy pvp.

I had a pvp galleon emerge dang near within throwable distance after I finished a fleet today lol.

I'm loving the update, the increased pve spawns, the new voyage system is just awesome imo, some fun comms to work on, so I'm still enjoying it but hopefully they make the necessary improvements as soon as they can.

It's looking like a great adventure season so def don't wanna see people getting discouraged and overly frustrated early on.

  • I haven't seen this happen so far, but I do wonder if whatever tracks whether a player is doing an event or not could get confused at times due to changing position.

It's not uncommon to briefly sail away from the event area when battling fleets. Not sure about Ghost Fleets, but Skeleton Fleets can definitely lead you to the very edge of the battle zone and sometimes keep fighting you for a bit even after the event music has gone, meaning you're now far from the play area. Would the game prevent another player from fast traveling there in such occasion? And what about forts where two ships may be fighting each other in the surrounding waters away from the fort?

I've had a few that blackscreened and sent me to an outpost where I couldn't interact with my anchor, rowboat, or harpoons

I wonder if that is one of those clash scenarios where they just sent me to an outpost as a "fail" raid and some are just getting thrown into the raid.

  • Well..regardless if it should or shouldnt happen.

It part of the game atm, PvpvE

  • @needsmokes had you gone close enough to actually spawn the ashen lor d? I suspect while they're in the ritual phase it is up for grabs from divers

  • I had a situation today as Reapers were we PvE dove to scour a new server for emmi's and ended up rising up perhaps 2 boatlengths from a hapless solo sloop.

What I think is happening is the server is allocating a diving ship to a location, and other players are sailing into the spawn area after the diver has been allocated but before theyve arrived.

Not exactly what happened to the OP here but it does seem to be a little loose on the 'not spawning boats on top of other players' end of things

Actually if the system can find an organic event that no other team has dived to it will dive to it.

  • @foambreaker surely it shouldn't intentionally work for events being worked on? That would mean someone has headed over for normal loot and it has been changed to raid loot by another party after you're working on it?

Unfortunately, there is a bug where you can. I've had it happen a couple of times where the other ship was already progressed several waves into the event before we appeared.

Hopefully they can fix this issue.
