Kicked For AFK

  • I don't like how you can be kicked for being afk while waiting for a match in hourglass. And to make it worse you can't rejoin your session like you could if your game crashed. This punishes solo hourglass players the most because if kicked you have no hope of regaining your ship. Surely it wouldn't be that hard to just remove the afk timer for people waiting for a match or at least make it so you can rejoin.

  • Hour glass queues are probably the only case where i think the afk timer should be deactivated just because it would be nice to be able to tab away until the battle music begins.

  • I agree with the sentiment here.

  • I don't like how you can be kicked for being afk while waiting for a match in hourglass

Why are you just standing there doing nothing??

  • @burnbacon what am I supposed to do, Twiddle my thumbs?

  • If you are not interacting with the game for 15 min you will be kicked for being AFK… pretty much every game does this.

However if you use a Tuck emote it does lengthen that time I believe.

But also if you are stepping away for the game for 15 min while in a queue you probably would have lost that match anyways.

  • @reverend-toast I just want the AFK timer off when waiting for a match after diving. I'm not stepping away from the game for over 15min I just think it's kinda dumb you have to wiggle around every 5min or so to keep from getting kicked.

It's also just a really easy fix and a great quality of life update

  • @reverend-toast and most games don't kick you for queuing for a match

There isnt much you can do. After spending the 100th time shooting the bell and emoting in different spots on a ship that you cant do anything on, there isnt much left to do while you wait.

It would just be nice if while mid dive waiting for a match, that you could just tab out to do literally anything other than another 20 minutes of shooting a bell, and when you hear the battle music starting you can tab back seeing there is literally nothing else you can do if you are all supplied up and ready.

  • Wow 10 minute queue, what are you queuing solo galleon or something?

  • Honestly, it could simply be a time-zone issue and/or unlucky. If you're queuing when there's not many PvP ppl around. I wonder, following that logic, do you notice same names popping up over and over in HG?

I'm CET zone (which is like 6-9 hours ahead of USA), and found out that seas are a lot calmer around the night my time (so as in 2-3am CET).

Bottom line, I'd try to dig up (if there's any info being around the web) what are the most PvP-packed SoT times in terms of HG. As a temporary solution at least, if you can manage to adapt. :/

PS. and on the suggestion itself, I got nothing against it. Doesn't look like something that could be exploited or anything, and shouldn't harm anyone.

EDIT: actually the only possible downside that I could think of, is Open Crew situations, and only when it happens that someone oversteps even 10-15min AFK so ppl end up complaining :D but that's a far fetch. And I also might be missing some "against" points.

  • @foambreaker I feel your missing my point. Not everyone is on super populated stamps or servers and this is, I would say, a really minor change that could improve the game. For everyone against this idea I've only seen people pointing out how it's pointless (which is just objectively untrue) and no actual reason for not implementing it.

Yes, I do have to wait sometimes 40min+ for a solo sloop hg match

  • @r3vanns I'm in OCE servers so it's very quiet most of the time. It's not unusual to wait 15+ min for a match. As for your point with open crew, It does make some sense however, if you're doing hg with randoms you're rooting for your downfall. You could also just cancel and go back out of hg que

I agree with your point, I was just surprised you had to wait that long when diving.

  • @RuggedGibbon298 I'm in full support of there being no AFK timer while you are queued up for a match. Makes no sense there is one, tbh. I have to assume it's a practical reason (too much work to separate the timer out just for hourglass, etc.) than a design reason. But who knows. Hopefully it will change one day.

That said, here's what I do when I'm diving to avoid getting kicked when the queue is exceptionally long. Maybe you'll find this useful, too... I simply grab onto an object like the wheel or a sail. After a set amount of time, it feels like 5 minutes or so, the player will automatically let go. So occasionally I'll look over and if I see that I've let go, I just regrab. For me, the act of regrabbing seems to be enough interaction to reset the AFK timer. And just clicking one button to regrab every five minutes is much easier than running around the ship doing nothing to ward off a lazybeard. YMMV, but that seems to work for me. Not a true solution but it's all I got, haha!

  • @tangus-00 I didn't know that so thanks for the tip. I do wish rare would tell us about these things like how hard it would be to implement it.

  • @ruggedgibbon298 Yeah, if you want I'd say give it a try to see if it works for you. My queue times are very rarely that long, but so far it seems to work for me.

  • @ruggedgibbon298 most games don’t have you in the game when queuing.
