Safer Seas Commendations

  • I wanted to bring this to someone’s attention hoping a change could be made around the commendations in safer seas. I’m not interested in argumentative behavior and understand people have different reasons for playing games. First, I totally agree with several restrictions. Athena/reaper factions not being available and those commendations being locked permanently I totally agree with. The level cap I agree with (although personally I would lower it to maybe 30). However I was pretty surprised to see that, because I am above the current level cap of 40, I cannot progress ANY progress towards trading company commendations (with the exception of hunters call). This is a very unreasonable restriction and, for instance, the fact I cannot progress my merchant commendation about selling chickens at an outpost is a bit silly and seems kind of petty.

Let me offer a compromise for you to consider. Players in safer seas can progress rep and commendation progress up to level 30 reputation, and level 1 commendation level. This allows (new) players an opportunity to get their feet wet, understand how trading companies and commendations work, and is 20 levels below pirate legend requiring them to venture into high seas to reach pirate legend. It also is 45 levels under the current cap of 75. High seas would be needed to reach pirate legend, AND max reputation levels. Here is where my compromise starts. Once you reach rank 75 in a trading company level, the commendations unlock for that trading company (gold hoarder, merchant, and souls) in safer seas and you are free to finish commendations you may not have unlocked naturally in high seas. I think this offers the best of both worlds, a lower initial cap to get players into high seas after learning the ropes, and allowing new and returning players a chance to relax in safer seas and tie up lose ends with trading company commendations. Hitting max reputation would show you played extensively in high seas, and no longer need to “prove” yourself to relax in safer seas. Example being I have played this game since launch, am max reputation in every faction, and have upwards of 35 million gold with virtually all commendations naturally unlocked. I choose to stay in safer seas just for the enjoyment of doing voyages without harassment, not caring about gold or reputation. But I think after hitting max level, players should be able to unlock the commendations in safer seas. Hopefully it is a change we could see in the future.

  • @drummerzone no compromise needed.

Players in safer seas can progress rep and commendation progress up to level 30 reputation, and level 1 commendation level.

Play High Seas to continue :)

So all the threads about adding more commendation restrictions to safer seas and this one was already a part of it?

  • @tesiccl on e you max everything there really isnt a point to high seas. Ill stick to safer seas for the most part.

  • @wolfmanbush all commendations are locked after rep 40. I cannot progress any commendations except hunters call and choice bilge rats ones. And of course tall tales.

  • No point in asking for this; PvPers will demand you go to High Seas because not having easy marks makes them angry, and the developers will continue to not understand why people play Safer Seas by keeping the arbitrary limits it has.

What both parts fail to realize is that, if people need to be pushed towards the PvP aspect; The PvP aspect failed.

a lot of pvpers are pretty tuned out of this season/sot

this is something that matters more to high seas pvers and people that are a mix of pve and pvp in style

  • Seems like the easiest way to code safer seas was once you hit level 40 when you sell stuff it just voids the hand in. That way no money is awarded so also no commendation progress is awarded. This is just due to them taking the simplest solution to restricting the mode. I don't agree with you on the level cap. It's all relative and pointless. If they want to give incentive for high seas it's simple. Increase loot value even more on high seas so safer seas is actually more like a 15% progression then.

Sea of Thieves has always been "play how you want" followed by a giant list of exceptions. Now that they have caved on having private servers the next common step leap is let people play how they want. If I want to PvE some athena I could que up on a PvE discord and do it at 100% progression... I would much rather do it any time I want at a 15% progression because waiting in a que on a discord and having to follow their rules is annoying and sucks the fun out of the game. But Rare always goes for the worst solutions that don't make sense.

And every complaining that thieves is in the name of the game... and that its a pirates game... There are plenty of other pirate games that don't even have multiplayer. Rare made an amazing PvE experience. The PvP ruins that experience for most people. Some love it though. My OG crew loved doing forts because we got the PvE payout and we constantly had people coming at us so rather than hunting down other ships the PvP came to us.

Everyone worried safer seas would kill this game... No a competing company making a PvE Sea of Thieves like would kill this game. Because there's nothing out there that delivers on the PvE experience SoT has created.

For those of us who were around from the start the PvP gets old when PvE is what you enjoy. I played the game properly for 1.5 years. Then I played a ton on PvE discords. Now I just solo sloop most the time since I don't care about the gold. Hide out in the roar since that place has gotten no love from the devs to make people want to go play there.

  • @guildar9194 i am aware of this, but when I submit a ticket, they tell me to post it here. I think i made a very reasonable accommodation to both interests. To be perfectly honest, once you max out in high seas like I have, there really isnt a point to even play the game anymore. Rare should be trying to retain players. And basically making every piece of loot sold at like 300 gold and blocking 99% of progression in any way is not the way to do it. Their stubbornness will be their own demise.

  • @drummerzone then enjoy, but the restrictions won’t change, they expect you to transition to High Seas eventually to continue progress. If you’ve done everything, how’s going into Safer Seas making your life better? I don’t understand that logic.

Their stubbornness will be their own demise.

Game’s fine. The doomerism is old.

  • @guildar9194 your blanket assertion of every player is the reason why you can never fully understand this game and appreciate what the developers are doing to appease players with High and Safer Seas.

  • @tesiccl they also said there would never be private servers. But here they are so thats an invalid statement. Im done with your arguments though.

High seas life is a lot more popular with casual/pve play than people think it is. Most players don't want constant pvp and pvp pressure but SoT succeeded because of high seas design, random encounters, thrill of risk and reward in adventure with other players.

Even all of the people that run in SoT. That doesn't mean they aren't high sea players, just means they run.

Even people that get upset in moment when they sink, doesn't mean they aren't high seas players it just means they need a moment after they sink.

Even people that leave the server when they are attacked, doesn't mean they aren't high seas players, just means combat isn't a part of their interest and they take the L.

Many will use safer seas as a break room, a getaway, and that doesn't mean they aren't high seas players. Still high seas players.

What is happening is that people that feel they are owed 1:1 rewards are acting as if that is a pve thing, that's not a pve thing, that's a feeling owed outcome thing.

Most players that love SoT are compatible with the high seas experience, especially post season 8 where there is less pressure and more opportunity/convenience.

  • If you want to play Safer Seas risk-free, you will have to accept its limitations.

It is a TU TO RI AL, it is not a private area to grind, you are confusing the objective of these servers again and again.

Everything that Safer Seas does not offer has a reason, to promote the High Seas, the true Sea of Thieves.

    There are two paths

1 - Accept the objective of Safer Seas, use it to improve and practice and once you feel comfortable, jump to the High Seas.

2- Invest the time that you could use in improving, in crying like the fellow Guildar does, who entered a PvP game without having read information and now intends to adapt it to his tastes.

  • @drummerzone have a great day on Safer Seas :)

  • @drummerzone said in Safer Seas Commendations:

    They are not locked though.
I just tested it out by doing a animal voyage for the Merchant Alliance on Safer Seas. I am already maxed out for MA (level 75)

I had to deliver 1 golden chicken, 1 golden snake and 1 gunpowder barrel. Did it within the time and also managed to find a chest of thousand grogs. All the commendations tracked. I got +1 for the chickens, +1 for the snakes (wich brought me to a higher grade), +2 for golden animals, +1 for kegs, +2 for miles sailed on MA voyages and +1 for the grog chests (i am also 75 for GH).

    So they do track.

What is a problem is that due to the huge popularity of Safer Seas the server are under to much pressure, so sometimes the commendations don't imidiately track, but they should do within 72 hours. Rare employees have also said this on the official discord. But that problem also appears for people who aren't at level 40 yet, so that is just a server issue.

  • If there was no cap to trading companies in SS then everyone will play SS and sot will become a PVE game and its not meant to be a PVE game.

  • My commendations are all counting fine. Its probably just a lag issue and when you next log in, all progress will be updated.
    Just keep chasing those chickens.
