About alts and why it should be discrimined in pvp

    Alt in pvp should be discrimed, as it
    1 - makes players level up others without fear of losing its account, because it can be accounted as a "alting"
    2 - frustates lower lvl pvp players, because as it wants to progreed, it encounters higher lvl players(and the sea is soooooooooooooo damn full of them) that keeps not even trying to sink players, they just wanna frustate them, as they will not even shoot cannons at others players and will just keep spawn killing, that is SO bad, if a new player tried to record their journey till something, it would be just "hey i met a alt". Playing with players of the same level is way much fan that having to play someone from a way higher level. sending that so you can rethink the way you deal with alt accounts, as it is pretty much a ballast to the game and to those that keep the game alive, why a pirate would need a new account if he did everything right on its main account? And adding to that, following the "no pay-to-win" strategy of the game, if you got a new xbox game pass for only $5 you can win how much fights you want in sea of thieves!!!! because the matchmaking will pair you only with low lvl accounts that have no chance against a 2000hs player(or more)
    3 - alt players usually will not try to sink you or any other ship, they will just keep spawn killing you, its not funny.
    4 - allowing alts, make players create accounts to try cheating, having racists slurs(I myself already make a ticket and got a player member because of that, so i got a "proof" about that), and every bad thing. You have permission of rare to have a lot of accounts, so why not get a ban on one of it?
    5 - alts permits you dont enjoy the game. After all, if you can create a new account and do everything again, why you would be atentious to something that should appear only one time to a player? It ruins the experience designed for.

    A pirate got only one skin, the scars should be the same all the time.
    having more than one its not how it should be.

    @arvok13835 No. alts are allowed and should be encouraged, so long as they’re not used for cheating.

    I say this genuinely. I dunno why people are always getting in other people's business and then try to find something "bad" to witch hunt against them with.

    I have fought a massive amount of players in this game over years of play. I never know about their account because I never look into it lol.

    I really don't know why it matters, if there is an issue with an encounter there is a support system to go through. Imo many players snoop around too much specifically looking to create drama or say something negative about some random player during a random encounter in a video game.

    Well for one it is a way for OCD achievement hunters to play the game without worrying about sullying their main account and Gamerscore with unobtainable or grindy achievements. Without alts these people would never touch the game.

    Also some people have alt accounts to allow visiting friends or family members to play games on Xbox when they come by.

    So in short, it is a way for some people to try out or play games without having to worry about how it affects their gamerscore as well as enable others to play without having to create a new account when they are visiting friends or relatives on holidays and the like. It is also a way for streamers to play without exposing their main account online or illustrate achievement unlocks they may have already done on their main.

    I also have 2 Nintendo accounts lol. Only one PSN tho.

    I think the double standard is hilarious.

    "You can't restrict access to hourglass for low-level accounts, if you gatekeep it from new players you'll lose players!"

    "Cheaters creating alt accounts after being banned are ruining hourglass for everyone!"

    Real Catch 22 here. Can't restrict access to new accounts, but they're ruining the game mode.

    I actually dont see any problem in alts in casual play or whatever.
    but alts in hourglass usually have a very bad behaviour, it is indeed a problem of bad matchmaking(and a lack of players on it).
    every time i see an alt, it is just the type of person that will keep running away till it board you, then will keep killing you so you quit the match. Not any damage to the boat, or nothing. As i said before, there is also that people that uses alting to do whatever they want, like being toxic and racist. So, reading what you had said, and agreeding with almost all of them, i would say: If a alt account receives a punishment, the others accounts shouldnt receive it too?
    To think: If a people with multiple personalities commit a crime in personality 1, only that personality should go to the jail? not the person itself?

    @wolfmanbush and about that: It's because there is some bad behaviours that i saw most in alts, and they will keep doing it because they will just create a new alt, because there is nothing preventing them for that. There is not a ip ban or whatever, you can go just be toxic, be banned, pay $5 for another account and go on

    People absorb themselves in report stuff, in the cheat stuff, in the behavior stuff

    and it gets worse because that's where the focus is, tunnel vision about negative stuff is "justified" and "necessary" because everyone else is doing it and talking about it

    it's not necessary to get so caught up in it

    when the focus becomes adapting as necessary and getting through random unpleasant encounters it's pretty smooth sailing.

    The "seeking justice" part of it quickly becomes revenge and revenge is a real tough way to go about the day. It brings down the quality of the experience significantly.

    On the last days I sailed in two different servers: US and SA.

    On SA, toxic players would be like 60% of the encounters, and alt would be at least 30%
    and on the US, it was pretty nice to see almost every battle finishing in a "ggwp". And me and my teammate only encountered 1 alt sloop in 20 fights we had(us has a lot more players, definitively).

    So, for me, when playing usually in SA, its not just a "random" encounter, its a big part of my journey.

    and, well, I always go smooth in my sailing, but thats not a reason to not try to "make the world better", you know? After all, if that persons "activity" is invading my well-being space, why should I remain quiet?

    You shouldn't remain quiet

    You have an opportunity to take that energy and to use it as fuel to lead by example. You have power, power to build yourself up and those around you. Others will see how you conduct yourself, how you deal with that sort of treatment. You have the power to turn that negative energy into inspiration for people that see you speak, see you type, see you react.

    Over time others will have a higher quality experience because of your participation and that will be an example of you taking something that was done to you and creating something inspirational out of it, something that will help others and will help you more than Rare ever can.

    I'm sorry but I don't get the problem. Alts cannot transfer wealth or commendations. If a person wants to play an alt so what?

    I use alts all the time. I've lost track of how many I have. My main alt has 61d 18h played, it's completed A bunch of seasons, is a Triumphant Sea Dog, and has ghost curse currently. I use it for photos and laughs. I use it for the dopamine rush of leveling up.

    It's also fun to play different looking pirates. I will not change my main, he's a perfectly ugly individual.

    Not all of us who have alts play them for nefarious reason's.

    Others are used for:
    Holding old voyages
    Grinding to PL for reasons (I have 5PL)
    Spiking servers for my group in discord for photos and shenanigans (I can launch 6 accounts at the same time.
    Clowning my friends

But I think there is still a problem on how punitions are taken on those with alt accounts and how they are problematic in Hourglass specifically. Any other game that got that kinda of "competitive" mode, are against smurfing, because of the way smurfs change the game and ruins other people experience.

    Read the post now as: Alts are ok, Alts in HG, no.
    Because after all, there is a matchmaking for a reason, and a alt breaks it.

    Most alts i have seen have been for a bit of fun on a new character as either a challenge, or just to have a second character. The very few people who actively use alts to spawn camp or do unsavory actions likely are doing so not to keep their main account safe, but probably because their main account is already banned and they just dont care what happens any longer.

    Umm, no. SoT's matchmaking doesn't take into account anything but current win rate, i.e. your current streak, ship type and crew size.

    How many times you won in the past has no bearing. How long you have played, no bearing, Allegiance level, no bearing.

    People don't have to maintain alts if they want easier opponents, all they have to do is turn in the hourglass after each win.

    Debate aside, what can they realistically do about it? Is it possible to accurately detect alt accounts? I know if you see low playtime, few other games played etc but for example my son plays with me sometimes. He's on same ip address using my xbox live gold (I have his xbox set as my home device so don't need to pay for additonal). Would any system in place be able to tell the difference? Or are you suggesting under a certain playtime just stopping people.

    It is obviously a symptom of cheaters ban evading on alt accounts but it's not the direct cause of any issue and there are people that use alt accounts genuinely. I've known people to use alt accounts to get them low level missions prior to captaincy so they could grind 250 completions easier etc

    @arvok13835 Using 'Alt' accounts is not against any rules or ToS unless they are being used to bypass other breaches of rules/ToS.
