Hourglass needs full galleon or brig crew only

  • This is a simple one, but Rare need to remove the ability for people to do hourglass with solo/incomplete crews in larger ships.

People on Aussie servers cheese the hourglass allegiance system ALL THE TIME. And while it didn’t used to bother me (despite being kinda pathetic), I dislike that these solo galleon crews take up a the very limited galleon spots on a server at any given time. They’re not playing the game right. They’re only cheesing it. And they’re wasting server space. Just don’t let them dip unless there’s a full crew aboard.

    An easy and appropriate fix.

  • They’re not playing the game right.

Who says I can't sail a Galleon alone and play "My Way" Maybe my galleon crew decided to leave game at the last min so Im waiting around.

Im curious why it doesnt bother but its also pathetic to you. What makes it pathetic? You get an easy win.

    And they’re wasting server space.

I can say the same to about every other group type in this game.

    • Those who tuck on ships for hours upon hours waiting to a ship to dock THEN steal.
    • Players who Double Gun
    • Pirates using nothing but blunderbombs/firebombs

But its how they wish to play.

  • @burnbacon relax burn bacon.
People can galleon solo all they want. They shouldn’t be allowed to hourglass.
The only reason to do that is to cheese.
Which let’s face it, isn’t intended.

  • People cheese everything, why hourglass wouldn't be different? I'm actually surprised they decided to get rid of alliance ambushes.

  • Im failing to see how going into hourglass solo on a galleon is some kind of "cheese" considering they are just going to lose when against a full crew. If them going in to lose is the cheese, then they can do that with a sloop with a much shorter wait time.

    Cheese a loss?

For that copious amount of Allegiance?

  • I'm wondering if two solo galleon loss farmers get matched against each other, will they both try to win - because that might turn into a very tedious fight 😁.

The tactic would have to be to keep pounding the ship because repairs are so slow, eventually both ships go down but who goes down first wins yes?

  • Solo brig HG is really good practice and actually fun. I've never won one but lasted 10-15 minutes versus average crews. :D

People will loss farm or trade/farm no matter the ship or crew size, so I don't really agree with the OP and unsure how my mind could be changed.

Otherwise they wouldn't be a real loss farmer :).

I probably would do some ram strat and change outfits all the time so the opponent thinks there are multiple persons on board 😁.

  • I don't get why people loss farm on gally (or in general), so much more effort

  • @burnbacon agreed second you start restricting play styles is the day it not about true freedom anymore

I’m surprised that you need to ask this question!

I have been in hourglass battles that have lasted an hour just to get a win. In that hour a loss farmer can get enough loosing reputation that equals a win. Not everyone can PvP. Not all PvP sweats can win alone. To be successful you need a decent crew. Most people have lives outside this game.

If you encounter loss farmers, be grateful for the free win and hope your next opponent puts up a decent fight.

  • @coffeelight5545 I get why people loss farm but gally seems like a lot more effort to do solo

  • Sea of Thieves is full of cheese. Even those who play hourglass 'properly' cheese the system with PvP exploits, silent boards etc all just for the tiniest advantage they can get. Loss farmers are just the other end of the spectrum and hats off to them for having the patience. From my experience on EU servers though, I see the PvP cheese considerably more so loss farming isn't really an issue here and the few I have met were decent folk who I had positive interactions with.

  • @hiradc Smaller ships matches just seem to be super toxic from my experience and have long queue times, on multiple occasions, I've had them refuse to sink me because I'm "cheesing the allegiance." I only really loss farm when I can't find a crew, so I've also just used it to scope out what the servers are like while I find a crew. So overall its just easier to loss farm there although it takes longer to start.

  • @hiradc it's not loss farming Americans use a VPN to farm wins by matching against an alt account on Australian servers

  • It’s not as easy of a fix as you may think.

Having additional conditions to activate something requires a lot of coding. And even then: what happens when someone drops out of the crew?

And while galleons do take up extra space in a sever… there are a lot of servers, and they allow extra people on for an hourglass battle… so the overall consequences of this aren’t as extreme as you make them out to be.

As far as cheesing HG: due to the cheating problem in the game, people have resorted to finding more efficient ways to level up. My crew has pretty much stopped HG battles cuz of this, but we are all over 100 wins in each faction so we have our curses and several skeleton options (One is over 300 in each) and we will go back to them mode when Rare is able to finally repel the cheaters.
