Make Hourglass exclusive to Pirate Legends to slow down cheaters

  • Just makes no sense getting a anticheat or improving detection if after cheaters get banned they just make a new account and hop right back to it with Gamepass

The idea is to slow down cheaters from rejoining hourglass, they would have to grind a little before returning to pvp battles making the bans way more effective and not just a little timeout, and lets be honest, the majority of players who havent achieved pirate legend yet are more invested in getting pirate legend and doing world events, then playing hourglass and getting destroyed

It might not solve the cheating problem (which is far worst in hourglass than open world) but it will make them waste time before coming back and give more meaning to the bans

  • also most hackers are not doing it just for fun or trolling, they are rushing the curses to sell the account, so have them grind that account first before they can start hourglass battles will set them back a lot, forcing them to shift from account seeling to account boosting (like in rust where they hire a hacker to do stuff for the party while they dont get their hands dirty themselfs)

  • I keep seeing hackers being used but that not who is messing up the game. It’s mods

If they were hacking, your ship would be sinking, your lvl would be reset and you be teleported into the Red Sea. :p

  • Unfortunately this would just penalize the legitimate players, not the cheaters. The people who have the kind of cheats to cheese through curses have the same kind of cheats to quickly become pirate legend. So it wouldn’t actually stop them.

i doubt legitimate players who are not even pirate legend are getting any progress made in hourglass, even players beyond pirate legend seem to be struggling to get a win streak so no big loss there as people would just have to do some more pve before they come pvp, but to cheaters which get banned all the time that means any ban its a grind before they are back , and not just a 30 min break.

  • @mugiwara3026 losing XP is still a thing, better than nothing at all, which is what they’d have if they had to wait until Pirate Legend.

And as I said, these kinds of cheaters have the ability to become PL very very quickly. I don’t think I’m allowed to name cheats or explain them in detail. But they can become PL in one evening. Definitely not a deterrent if they are the kind to just keep making and grinding curses anyway.

  • Legit players have made it to Pirate Legend in less than 6 hours, so I can only imagine how fast it could be when you're not limited by sailing or running and can fly anywhere.

I understand the thinking behind this kind of limit, but it doesn't work. It also hurts a lot more regular players who aren't Pirate Legend but are partaking in Hourglass. Removing those players will hurt the even smaller subset that are Pirate Legends because the player pools will be smaller, meaning more imbalanced matchmaking and/or longer queue times.

even if slowns them for 3 hours its very positive

this people are lazy and used to get stuff without any effort, so 3 hours of teleporting loot around before they can comeback to hourglass (that if they dont get caught doing it) its a massive delay to them, meanwhile legit players arent affected that much, they reach game awareness enought to play hourglass around pirate legend, so hourglass players wont have so many free wins anymore from noobs, which is good, i dont like free wins cause they send the losers away from hourglass, and also we get less encounters with hackers, making worth the time it takes to report them

You don't think that players willing to pay for cheats wouldn't also pay bot farms to boost accounts, which are now viable because you've created a market for it by introducing an easily bypassed barrier?

This won't stop cheaters at all.

so you really think this change would create the demand for it? dont you think it already exists? is the whole reason why i come by cheaters once every 2 to 3 days, they boost rep and get the curse to sell the account, its not creating anything but a obstacle for them and getting us time before running into them again, come back with a better argument cause this keep getting weaker lol

the whole point is cheaters cant be stopped, look at rust they got EAC which is one of the best anticheats out there, yet they keep coming back, the idea is slowdown the return, not to end it, i think i might have not made it clear enought in the title, main post and 3 replies, my bad.

You just admitted that there is a monetary incentive to keep doing this, so a PL requirement is not going to be a roadblock at all. It would barely be a speedbump. If it takes less than a day to get PL, and you're running into cheaters "every 2-3 days", you're not going to notice a decrease at all.

What are you talking about? Sea of thieves does not have mod support, cheats and mods are 2 entirely different things.

  • As long as it takes Rare several days to detect and finally ban an obvious keg teleporter this suggestion will not solve anything. Takes a few hours to become PL and then you go back to kegging server after server while livestreaming it on twitch. I mean it is Rares decision where and how they set their priorities and assign their resources but your suggestion (while interesting in general) will barely slow those people down.

Imagine Rare tracked the speed at which every gunpowder barrel would be moved across the seas. Faster than max ship speed? Hazelnutbeard. Same for teleports. Changing location / exceeding a certain speed limit (cannonball launch speed) or black screen too often within 3 minutes? Hazelnutbeard. If you can't build anticheat measures it is still possible to log certain things and make those people reconnect.

Won't fix the root issue but will make the current rage hacking way less fun and entertaining for these kind of people if they have to reconnect multiple times during HG fights.

  • @axecaliburtv yup Ive suggested this too. If you cant treat the disease, treat the symptoms.

Try to attack situations where players are tracked moving too fast or dont touch land/water for longer than a cannon launch

  • @mugiwara3026 k them make the curses super easy to get there market will dry up if there's no demand for it scorced earth tactic

make the curses super easy to get, their market will dry up if there's no demand for it, scorced earth tactic

the curses are already super easy to get if anything they should be made harder, and even when there wasnt pvp curses arounds there was hackers already doing the same stuff they do now, except now they seem to flock on hourglass and ignore the rest

  • @mugiwara3026 they flock to hg to get curses themselves or as a paid service to morons on eBay for boosting make them as easy as breathing and there market drys u won't 100% fix the situation but my point is make it so unprofitable for them that they won't bother you can also go in the other direction of making harder but that has the knock on effect of being a massive disincentive to casuals effectively killing hg even more

  • It is not a bad idea to require PL in order to vote HG.

But, this without an anticheat would be making the situation even worse, I'll explain:

Right now, the vast majority of cheaters are in HG annoying and messing around, if they put the requirement of being PL to access the mode, it will reduce the number of accounts that repeat once they are banned due to the grind they will have to do, but it would fill Adventure Mode with these people, so now both modes would be infested with cheaters and both would be unplayable.

A person downloads a cheat, logs into SoT and sees that they are asked for PL, being their first account, they will probably grind factions while using cheats (They will be a bit sneaky, they won't go with kegs flying, but they will use their magic to make their job easier). This would exponentially increase the number of players affected by cheaters, which would mean that more players would leave the game because they wouldn't be safe anywhere, plus we would all doubt everyone at the slightest suspicious move.

It's not a bad idea, but it needs to be implemented in a very smart way and with a very good strategy behind it.

  • Actually a pretty decent idea, because now if any internal cheat detection is made, there is more data to attack their identity; leading to pre-emptive banning.

The more that they do, the more likely they get caught.

Well, that is.. absolutely not true. They start in HG and then destroy every whole ship on the target server while they are already at it. They have to wait a minute for the enemy ship to despawn before they can dive again and until then they destroy the remaining server. Don't be fooled into thinking it only affects HG. Sooner than you think your next voyage or world event might end up in raining kegs for you as well.

  • The solution, as always, no surprise, years too late; is ANTICHEAT

  • @mugiwara3026 they can do virtually anything they please, cheaters that is. Zero game side detection, so unless someone is lucky enough to record it, they can instantly have PL, maxed levels and curses, teleport, steal loot, fly, aimbot etc etc etc. Making HG exclusive would be pointless and easily sidestepped. Most haven't the slightest idea what those people are actually capable of. Nothing can be done at this point, no matter what anyone says. It'll stop when they decide to stop, and not a second before. Proof is this, they've been doing it with impunity since the word go, so if not forced to stop, some kind of in game speed/flying/to detection or the like on RARES part it never will.🤷🏾‍♂️

  • Punish the new players with the cheaters, no.

    Fix the cheats, yes.

  • @mugiwara3026 with a good anti-cheat as soon as you enter the game and an external program is detected (the hack) it will be permanently banned and if another is created again the external program will be detected and it will be banned
