Safer seas is good

  • Everything is fine friends, don't worry so much. Many people criticize safe seas and say that Sea of Thieves is going to die, this is not the case. Let's put ourselves in the situation that we are new to the game, if we don't know how to play and another crew constantly sinks us, what would we do? Obviously uninstall it and play another game. I think this creates an opportunity to attract new pirates who temporarily play on safer seas and then play the normal adventure mode, rather than limiting it at level 40 it would limit the number of hours you can play on those servers, otherwise, it seems to me good

  • 100% agree. Many times I've come across other pirates begging me for help in finding the X on the map, or where a particular island is/was. I couldn't tell you what would've happened if another player on the seas pulled up to them. At least this way, they'll be able to get comfortable with the basic fundamentals of the game, get a feel for everything, etc. before joining the high seas. Changes were made to the game warning people about raising emissary flags to let newer players know of the potential danger. This Safer Seas is the perfect medium between learning the game, without letting people exploit gold, milestones, rep, etc.

Sounds to me as if Rare cares about the community, and is doing what they can to help retain the playerbase.

  • say that Sea of Thieves is going to die

This isn't anything new. Every few months someone with time and misunderstanding of stats comes here saying just that with documents and forms showing its decline :p

Let's put ourselves in the situation that we are new to the game,

I guess Im part of a rare breed of players. Jumping into the deep end, hoping for the best and improving myself as I play. Didnt need tutorial, hand holding or a safe place :p

Half true. I see it gaining newer players or old ones who stopped prematurely. But once they see they can't bring "More friends" and do certain tasks because its lockec, and only way to do so would still play with other players....they will A) Stay in Safer Seas with friends on a Galleon or once again leave (after they complain about lack of content in SS)

As long as rare gives me the option to SET the game to Higher Seas as my go to place/Default. (Less needless clicking to set sail) Fine with it. Prefer setting if you will.

  • It'll be interesting to see what other changes are being made as apparently we (me and the other 5 non insiders lol) still don't know what else is changing

For the community I hope the other changes/additions are overall less polarizing and help support confidence in the environment. There is always some level of dissatisfaction but some changes do lead to more qol in the day to day sessions.

  • I played this game with a lot of people we were all pve players and created discord to play together, and we all stopped playing this game the moment they made running to red sea not a thing anymore and added more forceful pvp encounters, lucky with safe sea i will probably download again and try it but since a lot of things are nerfed i dont have to much desire to play it again. Sea of Thieves is very grindy game like no one other and no matter what you want to do you will need at least one 1-3 hours of play to finish the play and see progress, with safe sea where everything is reduced its just not worth it to play it, you will just lose your time. Its nice to play from time to time to chill in safe seas and explore but that will very fast become boring because you will have no normal progress so at the end many players will return to same, uninstall the game and play something more pve friendly.

  • We are waiting for the release of this "incredible" function when you do everything, start asking for more rare will bend again and the game will cease to be what it is. "We shall sail together" will turn into "We will sail to do the quest of the gold holders on the pve server" Well, seriously dudes? I don't see the point in this function when you redo all the pve content a hundred times you won't get bored? The beauty of this game is meetings with players, an unexpected teammate or sea dogs with whom you will start fighting and win. So many unforgettable emotions and this is just one example. I do not understand the developers what is the point of making concessions to players who do not like the very charm, the pearl of the game, it would be better if instead they listened to players who constantly play their creation. I would like to emphasize that this mode is made for beginners, for beginners who only learn the mechanics of this game, learn the world. The idea itself is not bad, but people do not understand this and I have ALREADY seen posts demanding to increase the amount of gold received or turn on mechanics that are not available in the seas. That's why I think that all progress should be disabled (gold, reputation, achievements, etc.) because at its core it is a learning mode. And yes, look at this mode from the other side. A beginner constantly plays seafer seas, makes all the available content, goes to normal servers, he is drowned, he deletes the game. That's all. I also want to say that I think 80% of beginners will ignore the safe seas and go straight to a normal game.

  • @danielpirata925 don't disagree, but now imagine you've played safer seas and have a bit of a better grasp of the game. You go to high seas, you still get sunk as you have no pvp experience.

There is now a mode you know you can fall back on to avoid such an experience.

Retaining players to play solely on safer seas I doubt is better for the game. Having 1 server per crew can't be a good model.

We'll see, I hope it is good for the game.

I think many players and many veteran players are overestimating how appealing this mode will be as it is designed.

As designed it really only serves 2 groups. Those that have accepted the punishment to fish/random casual activity (already outside of risk/reward for the most part), and those that this content will help get into the high seas.

If they do not change the design this will work. We don't know how much but it will have an overall positive result with retention.

Anyone that plays organically on the high seas would be justified in being optimistic about this long term. This is going to support the middle. Season 8,9 and 10 are a rebuild and it is repairing what all that quick action (at a direct sacrifice to inexperienced players) over hunting damaged.

If they stay true to safer seas and high seas and they keep offering intense pvp scenarios for those that want to be at the top they will have a great organic environment going forward. Second half of season 8 was good organically, season 9 has been great organically.

    Should work out just fine.

  • Steam says I haven't launched the game since March 8, 2022.

I just saw the information, and I am very happy and excited to know that I will soon be able to relaunch the game, and occasionally re-enjoy its beautiful universe.

Alone in the middle of all this blue, sailing, exploring, having a few more unpleasant encounters for a little dose of adrenaline, fishing peacefully... Just enjoying all the beauty of this game without the permanent anxiety of an encounter as well as of a fight that you do not want, against people infinitely more competent than you.

Finally, the player that I am will no longer serve as a so-called "PvP" opponent, and the toxic players will finally mainly meet players who also want to fight but who, I hope, will be stronger than just as toxic as them.

Thanks Rare, it took a while, but it's finally happening.

Going to high seas when you can't hit the island with a cannon and getting defeated is a lot different than going to high seas after having mastered skeleton ships and phantoms.

They still have to learn PvP, boarding tactics and all of that, but at least they know the difference between meat, pineapple and banana. At least they have learned the basics of naval combat.

Another thing, there are a huge number of extreme casual gamers. Players who will never make Pirate Legend because they are just hangin out. They play for years and they spend money, but they are not into accomplishing anything besides having fun. Those players leave SoT right now, but they might hang out in SS for years, spending money.

  • I have a good few hundred hours in the game, pirate legend and all that, but I stopped playing the game for a few reasons.
Chief among those was the inability to actually play through the tall tales with my family. My wife, kid, and I would try to play a tall tale, only to get murdered after tracing ghostly footsteps on an island for an hour. This happened so often during tall tales that we all lost our appetite for the game.

It just wasn't fun. Yes "get gud, it's pirates, etc." ... okay, but some people just want to casually play through the story content sometimes, and that just wasn't possible with the old system.

The only reason I'm coming back to the game is the fact that "safer seas" is on the horizon. I think the limitations they've put on it make sense. I'll still want to play the open world to stack loot and progress athenas, my captained ship, and whatnot. But it will be fun to actually play the game with my girls without putting them through hundreds of hours of "getting gud" at PvP.

I'm excited, I think this is a great move, I don't think capping the number of hours would be good though. I want to be free to play through all the extensive story content at a leisurely pace; not having to feel like there's a ticking clock.

I think that we old timers had much easier couse we jumped into much calmer waters than somebody who starts let's say tomorrow.
