My proposal for THE BEST QOL UPDATE

  • Hello, I am sure some of you remember me, the guy who “just wants a captain chair for sloops”
Well, I am here to explain what I think would be the best quality of life update of ALL TIME
    Should be.

    1. Cross server map boards
Did you know that if you post a map on a map board, it is exclusive to the server you posted it on?
That means that if the server expires, so does the map! If we can server hop, why not our maps?
(I’m sure this must be harder than it sounds)

    2. Balanced factions
It has come to my attention that merchants are more profitable than GH and OOS.
So why not balance it out, and add some new content while at it?

      1. an OOS voyage for people rep lvl 50 or higher : skeleton lord hunt (1 encounter + one riddle/ map after encounter for extra skulls)
      2. An GH voyage for people rep lvl 50 or higher: Chests of the kraken (deliver new cursed chests while being hunted by a super powerful “ancient kraken”
    3. Stools buyable from merchants
A good gold sink for solo players… 3,000-5,000 Gold per stool?

    4. Pet house below grog barrel
(How do the minority of pets get a cage (parrots, monkeys), but not the majority? END PET DISCRIMINATION! :D

    5. New types of grog
(Effects of cursed cannonballs, on GROG! (Dancing grog, sleepy grog, etc.)

    6. Scumm bar-ify the captain’s head
      (More NPCs, special grogs served)

  • So player buried treasure works differently than regular X marks the spot maps.

1: Have you noticed with player buried treasure, you can naturally find them without a map? The ground has a different texture on them, and when you step on them there is a hollow "Clunk". That information has to be translated into the server, were treasure is at XYZ coordinates (Cuz you can bury in tunnels). If that was on multiple maps, you could be looking at the disheveled earth, hear the clunk start digging, and Whoops, someone on a different server hit right trigger/left mouse before you did. And what would happen when 2 people on 2 different servers try burying something in the exact same spot? Lots and lots of complications on how to implement this, and I would rather have the developers spend the time adjusting other things.

2: Factions are always going to be mismatched. Merchant has the benefit of being consistent, but you can make a LOT doing Vault Quests... they just require a bit more travel... but the emissary voyages for Gold Hoarder and Order of Souls are so much better as well as just emergent loot does lean more to Gold and OOS.

3: I could see them adding the ability to buy stools, but I would be willing to bet that the majority of players just skip the stools in general, or just toss them into their pile of treasure.

4: Having another place to put a pet would be interesting.. but since they can just leave it doesn't serve much purpose anyways.

5: This would be interesting. Maybe have various chests of Grog that do different things when holding them... like the dancing one would cause you to stop and jig sporadically.

6: More NPCs in Taverns really won't work in adventure mode... especially when that is the primary spot for Athena Turn-Ins when you don't have a captained ship.

  • The quest board definitely needs to save all maps to some universal map hub to save cross server. I actually liked posting up maps for other players all the time, but the moment i discovered that it was only per server, so odds are no one would ever find my maps, i just gave up and stopped posting maps. The only thing i grab maps for at this point is if i know i will be on a specific island, ill get one just for a small bit of bonus loot, but usually dont even think to do that.

As for a skele lord hunt, i have my own ideas for one, but in general it would be a very good idea. The order absolutely needs a special voyage that is not ghost ships, cause ghost ships are not really the best way to go about doing order stuff. Gold hoarder or merchants both have regular quests that are worth while, and high risk/reward quests, but ghost ships are not really high reward, while announcing to everyone around what you are doing.

  • speech about nothing

  • 6: More NPCs in Taverns really won't work in adventure mode... especially when that is the primary spot for Athena Turn-Ins when you don't have a captained ship.

Exactly why I think it works! A player could sit among the NPCS and wait for the Chest of legends…

  • @craftergames706 I would like something like that. After all, we have some in the PL hideout (please let us play the shanties with them rare) and I would love it if you got randomized quests from the npc's.
