Hourglass Unlocks/Ideas

  • Ahoy! Just wanted to give some feedback on the hourglass system… right now I currently don’t have any reason to go back into hourglass as I don’t feel the grind to 1000 is currently worth it for either faction. I was think maybe for the hourglass add a new tab in the reputation page to show both sides in one page, show TOTAL win/lose ratios, total ships sunk etc. also add more cosmetics past level 200 currently we have skeleton parts for servants, and the Mysterious Stranger clothing for guardians, my suggestion is to either (I know this may get the thread locked but I don’t care) bring back arena clothing, for being levels in both factions for example… glorious Sea Dog for level 200 in both faction triumphant sea dog for 300 in both factions or something along those lines. Maybe even instead of re-adding arena cosmetics reskin them… for example make a “fallen sea dog” set like the lantern, a red jacket with black highlights in the style of the sea dogs. And do something similar for a triumphant reskin. Maybe even reworking some of the old commendations to fit into hourglass. Example being captain of silvered waters. Could be reworked under the new shared page idea as win 100 hourglass battles. Just some thoughts hope this is considered and have a nice day on the seas

  • Couldn't agree more. They need to add cosmetics for both 0-100 and 200-1000. Arena cosmetics should remain time limited however reskins would be more than welcome in my opinion. It's sad to see two of the best looking sets in game getting locked behind a dead mode and not even releasing a reskin. The could do one for the reapers where it has a black and gold color scheme and one for athena which would be either purple and gold for example.

  • I do not agree.

    As an example, I don't have the Wandering Reaper rewards - and I don't deserve them, although I believe they're beautiful. I wasn't playing the game back then and that's on me.

    By the same token, Arena rewards shouldn't be brought back, either. There is beauty in the finite nature of rewards, especially if they mean something (sweat and tears in the case of the Arena).

    What I would absolutely support is brand new rewards for levels between 200-1000! That would work as an incentive for players to keep playing beyond 200 :)

  • what i would love to get unlocked in beetween those lvls are gold curse variations like we had in the begining and the skullfacepaint like the original but with black lips or stitched black lips cuz the panda looking facepaint recolor that we got from it lets u just cosplay winnie the pooh

  • I hate to say it, but you may not be the target audience.

    Hourglass is the Alderick of arena; it was designed to do the job of arena (slake the thirst for PVP of PVP enthusiasts) while integrating arena into adventure mode so they can retire digital assets and reassign physical assets. Remember, 3% of player time was spent in arena when they retired it. That's who hourglass is for: the pirates that love PVP. That's somewhere in the middle of 3% of players that spend 100% of their time in arena, and greater-than 3% of pirates that spend less-than 100% of their time in arena. Probably the latter.

    Either way, if you are a company, do you invest your time in creating more cosmetics for a single-digit percentage of your players, or do you spend your time in creating new cosmetics for 90%+ of your community? That's a no-brainer, sorry. If hourglass gets any more exclusive cosmetics, I'd be surprised. On demand PVP is simply not in-demand for the overwhelming majority of the current player base. The investment simply will never pay off until they lean real hard into selling this as a competitive PVP game that will actually attract players that will like hourglass. That's not the player base they have now.

  • @lordqulex I’d love to find out the kind of stats that HG pulls in on a weekly basis and see if it’s improved the participation of PvP more than arena did.

    Me too! I honestly hope it's more approachable, I think with a little tweaking it could be the next step up from emergent skeleton ships to teach PVP. But as it is now, with swabbies just getting rofl-stomped by cursed veterans, it's an unpopular play mode. I hold no real hope for more than 8% playtime currently...

  • @lordqulex omg can you imagine queuing and getting to rise up against a crew who weren’t queued and they had to defend themselves, but to make it fair, the ones queuing didn’t know which ship size they were gonna face against?! That would be awesome!

  • @lordqulex a sad truth is that the Hourglass system is already turning into an Arena situation… with so little of the player base playing it, the system will at some point lose support completely.

    So I feel a good way to get people playing it is offer more rewards… think of new ways to use the hourglass (more factions, daily deeds, maybe even voyages that involve it etc.)

    so far the last update to hourglass specifically was before season 9. Hourglass has the potential it’s just not being updated if it’s updated a couple more time with more incentives to raise it the population of the mode will increase but in its current state the majority of people will get their ghost/skeleton curse and move on.
